Colts Favored to Land Deebo Samuel Following Trade Request
This NFL offseason has been pretty wild already to say the least. It might get a bit crazier with the recent news in regards to star wide receiver and overall playmaker for the San Francisco 49ers, Deebo Samuel.
Samuel reportedly has submitted a trade request from the 49ers after contract negotiations broke down. The 49ers want to pay Samuel, but they might not be offering a contract that he’s happy with. He’s coming off a career season with 14 touchdowns (6 receiving, 8 rushing) and 1,770 total scrimmage yards (1,405 receiving, 365 rushing).
He played an integral role in the 49ers’ offense in 2021 and feels like a healthy contract extension should be his reward.
Odds for Deebo Samuel’s Next Team (If Not 49ers)
Betting odds for Deebo Samuel’s next team if he’s traded were made available on BetOnline. The Indianapolis Colts are the current favorite to land Samuel after his trade request, but there are other notable teams that could be in the market as well.
Those teams include the Kansas City Chiefs, New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Green Bay Packers, and more. Some of these teams have Super Bowl hopes on their minds, while others can use a great playmaker in their offense to take them to the next level.

There isn’t really a team who wouldn’t be a great fit for Samuel. He has tons of playmaking abilities and can be used as a receiver and in the backfield. Samuel proved to be more than just a wide receiver last season and helped the 49ers get through injuries to their running backs.
Players like Samuel are not easy to come by. He was a massive reason why the 49ers’ offense was great in 2021 and were able to get into the playoffs. The 49ers came 3 points shy to their rivals in the NFC Championship game when not a lot of people expected them to be there.
Samuel scored two touchdowns in the playoffs along with 291 total yards from scrimmage in 3 games (97 yards per game). He can fit in basically any offense, it’s just a matter of who wants to commit to him.
Who Makes the Most Sense for Samuel?
Coming in as the favorite to land Samuel via trade is the Indianapolis Colts. The Colts are coming off a wildly disappointing season after failing to clinch the playoffs. They failed to do so after losing to the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18, who finished the season 3-14 overall.
Indianapolis’ offense will look to improve from last year, but mostly in the passing game. Their rushing attack was possibly the best in football, but Carson Wentz and the aerial attack was not a major threat.
The Kansas City Chiefs adding Samuel would be a scary thought for the rest of the NFL. One of the most unstoppable offenses in the NFL just traded their star WR in Tyreek Hill away, and might look at Samuel as a replacement.
New York was unable to land Hill from that trade, so Samuel could be the next big name they go after.
There isn’t a wrong answer here really for a team that could use a playmaker like Samuel. The biggest thing is going to be his contract. His terms are unclear, but after coming off such a stellar season he’s likely going to be a top paid WR in the NFL when it’s all said and done.
