2022 NFL Rookie of the Year Odds – Who Are the Favorites?

| May 2, 2022 6:11 am PDT

The 2022 NFL draft is officially in the books. Many players heard their name called in Las Vegas, but only 32 were lucky enough to be a first-round pick.

More than likely, that’s where we’ll see the winner of Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year. It’s not unprecedented for a second or third round pick to win, but the 2022 NFL Rookie of the Year odds favor the top picks.

Bovada gives us the odds for each award. Let’s start with Offensive Rookie of the Year.

NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year 2022 Odds

Kenny Pickett+500
Drake London+600
Garrett Wilson+700
Jameson Williams+700
Treylon Burks+700
Malik Willis+800
Breece Hall+900
Chris Olave+1000
Desmond Ridder+1000
Kenneth Walker III+1000

Kenny Pickett opens as the favorite to win Offensive Rookie of the Year. The Pittsburgh Steelers selected the quarterback 20th overall. From there, we have four wide receivers, with Atlanta Falcons first-round selection Drake London leading the way.

Malik Willis is the lowest drafted player among the top contenders. Willis slid to the third round, going to the Tennessee Titans.

Why is Pickett the Favorite to Win Offensive Rookie of the Year?

The 2022 NFL draft was historically weak for quarterbacks. Kenny Pickett was the only quarterback to go in the first two rounds. That immediately gives him the edge over Malik Willis and Desmond Ridder.

Pickett became a household name following a standout season with the University of Pittsburgh. He won ACC Player of the Year after posting these numbers.

  • 67.2 completion percentage
  • 4,319 passing yards
  • 42 touchdowns
  • 7 interceptions

Considering the weak quarterback class, it’s not a guarantee Pickett will be the Pittsburgh Steelers’ starting quarterback. However, Mike Tomlin has already stated that Pickett will have a chance to start Week 1.

Pickett will compete with Mitchell Trubisky for the starting job. No disrespect to Trubisky, but Pickett doesn’t have a difficult path to the starting job. If he wins it, he’ll lead an offense that includes Najee Harris, Diontae Johnson, and Chase Claypool.

My early 2022 NFL division odds had the Steelers as a sleeper in the AFC North. They’ll remain that way with Pickett, but a great season in that division could wrap up Offensive Rookie of the Year.

2022 NFL Defensive Player of the Year Odds

Aidan Hutchinson+400
Kayvon Thibodeaux+450
Travon Walker+550
Quay Walker+750
Jermaine Johnson II+750
Devin Lloyd+750
Derek Stingley Jr.+900
Ahmad Gardner+900
Kyle Hamilton+1000
Jordan Davis+1400

Edge rushers were all the talk in the 2022 NFL draft, and three went off the board in the first five picks. Most people had Aidan Hutchinson going No. 1 overall, but Travon Walker emerged as the favorite a few days ago.

Quay Walker is an interesting name among the contenders. The Green Bay Packers selected the linebacker 22nd overall.

Why is Hutchinson the Favorite to win Defensive Rookie of the Year?

The Detroit Lions had to be ecstatic with Aidan Hutchinson falling to No. 2. The Michigan defensive end had an unreal senior season, recording 62 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks.

Hutchinson has a great chance to make an impact in his rookie season. Travon Walker went No. 1 overall for his potential. It might take him time to develop, but we’ve already seen Hutchinson put up big numbers.

Detroit should feature Hutchinson from day one. Their 30 sacks in 2021 were the third-fewest in the league. Hutchinson alone should move them out of the bottom five. Sacks are a flashy stat that will help his Defensive Rookie of the Year chances.

The No. 2 pick hasn’t been a stranger to winning the award. Edge rushers Nick Bosa and Chase Young won the award in 2019 and 2020. Will Hutchinson make it three in four years?

The 2022 NFL Rookie of the Year odds have many players in contention to win the award. My early prediction is Kenny Pickett and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Thankfully, you have plenty of time to make a pick.
