2021 Kentucky Derby Post Positions Announced

The wait is over. On April 27, 2021, Churchill Downs announced the post positions and morning line odds for the 20 thoroughbreds who will compete in the Two Most Exciting Minutes in Sports this coming Saturday (May 1, 2021).

It may seem like it was just yesterday that the 2020 Kentucky Derby ran, but it was eight months ago, thanks to a postponement courtesy of the global pandemic.

This year’s $3,000,000 Run for the Roses takes place on the traditional first Saturday of May.

While the European and Japan “Road to the Kentucky Derby” series of races produced some likely candidates for the two post positions reserved for the top competitors in each, neither the Europeans nor the Japanese chose to nominate candidates.

The draw for post positions for the 147^th Kentucky Derby took place on Tuesday morning in Louisville, Kentucky, and was broadcast live from the Aristides Lounge inside the Churchill Downs’ Clubhouse. It featured racing announcer Travis Stone as host.

Longtime Churchill Downs oddsmaker, Mike Battaglia, posted the morning line odds for the 2021 starting gate lineup.
