WTA Monterrey Predictions for Tuesday, March 3rd

WTA Monterrey started with several exciting matches yesterday that showed we will have a lot of fun this week. It’s time for day 2 of the competition and there are plenty of encounters from the first round that will take place.

That’s a lot of opportunities to make some money by betting. If you need some help picking the best wagers, my WTA Monterrey predictions for today can give you a hand.

Let’s start with the match between Heather Watson and Tatjana Maria. The British player will be high on confidence after winning the Mexican Open last week. She registered several impressive victories on the road to the title and kept her composure in the tough moments.

I expect Watson to carry the momentum to WTA Monterrey and she is a big favorite in her first match. The experienced Maria shouldn’t be underestimated, but she’s far from her best years.

I don’t think that the German will be able to keep up with Watson and this should be a comfortable victory for the favorite. That’s why the first of my tennis predictions for today would be to back Watson to win in straight sets.

Next in my WTA Monterrey predictions is the match between Johanna Konta and Kim Clijsters. The Belgian has a decorated career that includes four Grand Slams and plenty of success. The problem is that she has been retired for the past seven years!

Clijsters is on her second comeback and this one is really unusual. She was inactive for such a long period of time that it was a complete shock for the tennis world when the former number one decided to return on the court.

Most people understandably don’t expect much by a 36-year old that has been out of competitive tennis for so long, but the Clijsters’ first match actually showed a lot of promise.

She faced Garbine Muguruza in Dubai less than a month ago and put up a lot of fight, despite losing at the end. Clijsters claims she feels even better before her second encounter and she might be competitive in Monterrey.

The good news for the Belgian is that she will start the competition against the out-of-shape Johanna Konta. The British player had an excellent 2019 but completely collapsed this season. Konta hasn’t registered a win in singles in 2020 yet.

She is the favorite to finally taste victory against Clijsters, but I don’t think it will be easy after what we saw in Dubai. The Belgian won’t go down without a fight, so I believe the best pick here would be to go for over 2.5 sets in the match.

My WTA Monterrey predictions feature another player that has been away for a while. Victoria Azarenka hasn’t played since the 2019 US Open after focusing on a custodian battle for her son.

She is now ready to return and try to get back to the top of female tennis. To be fair, Azarenka was on the decline even before the long pause and she’s 30, so it’s hard to expect too much at this point.

And yet, she is a big favorite against Tamara Zidansek in the first round of WTA Monterrey. The young Slovenian made her first steps at the highest level in 2019 and will be hoping to improve in 2020.

The start has been promising, as she had decent performances in the Australian Open and in the Mexican Open.

That’s enough to convince me that she has a realistic chance of taking Azarenka down here. Considering how high the odds of the best tennis betting sites are and for how long the Belarusian has been out, this is the viable pick.

I have two more WTA Monterrey predictions for you and they cover matches that have a clear favorite. The first one is between Elina Svitolina and Danka Kovinic. There’s little doubt that the Ukrainian is the much better player and the expectations are for her to crush her opponent.

And yet, I’m not convinced by Svitolina’s form since the start of the season. She has been far from her best and I think she will struggle in Monterrey too. Kovinic is not good enough to eliminate her, but winning a set is a realistic target and that’s why I’m going for a 2-1 victory in favor of Svitolina.

I have different expectations about the meeting between Anastasia Potapova and Giulia Gatto-Monticone. The Italian will be happy to be in the main draw and she has no chance against the young and hungry Russian.

Potapova should be able to close this match in straight sets, as she has done multiple times against similar opposition in 2020.
