West Ham to Finish in the Top 10 and Other EPL Bets to Target Now

West Ham to Finish in the Top 10 and Other EPL Bets to Target Now

Judging by the quality on show in West Ham’s 4-0 win over Bournemouth on New Year’s Day, I believe David Moyes can steer West Ham to a top ten finish in the EPL this season.

The Hammers looked sublime in Moyes’ first game back at the club, with Mark Noble (2), Sebastien Haller, and Felipe Anderson hitting the back of the net. It was West Ham’s biggest win in the EPL since November 2007.

With Manuel Pellegrini gone, the London club will be hoping that there are better days ahead of them. The Pellegrini project cost a lot of money but ultimately failed to get off the ground.

Moyes will be hoping that his second spell as boss will yield more success. He left West Ham following the 2017/18 campaign, when he led the club to safety but never really had the love of most Hammers fans.

This time around, those same fans should warm a little to Moyes. Especially if results like the Bournemouth one become more common.

So, betting on West Ham to finish in the top ten could be a bet to target this season. The odds certainly make it an attractive proposition.

Elsewhere, there are other EPL bets that look appealing. While it looks like no one can catch runaway league leaders Liverpool, I have found various other markets that should interest you.

For example, betting on who will stay up in the EPL this season is far from being an easy and predictable task. Then, you can bet on who you think will qualify for Champions League soccer this season.

Grab yourself a drink, settle in, and I will start by explaining why you should consider betting on West Ham to finish in the top 10 this season.

Will West Ham Finish in the Top 10?

All odds below come courtesy of Betway. They are subject to change.

Yes +450

In order to finish in the top half of the table, these West Ham players have a big fight on their hands.

As of January 2, The Hammers sit in 16th place in the table. They have 22 points from 20 games and need to really start showing fans that they are better than this.

Their 4-0 win over Bournemouth was certainly a step in the right direction, and Moyes will be hoping that his players will take confidence from that performance.

In soccer, we often see a big upturn in a team’s performances when a maligned manager is sacked. For example, Man Utd couldn’t win a raffle towards the end of Jose Mourinho’s spell at the club, yet they played like world-beaters when Solskjaer took over.

Fans will certainly be hoping that Moyes’ presence can get the best out of this team.

You can’t really say that the Scot deserves all the credit for the win over Bournemouth. He had only taken over the reins a few days before, but his presence will have no doubt lifted the team, and whatever contributions that he did make clearly were of a positive nature.

West Ham’s fanbase is clearly growing tired of the lack of success at the club. Despite tens of millions being invested in the team — and a new stadium that feels a little lifeless compared to Upton Park — it is not hard to see why.

But if this team can find a good spell of form, they can certainly finish in the top half. A top-half finish would be a success this season, despite the club’s board clearly wanting more before the start of the campaign.

If Moyes is given time to build the team — and more importantly, to clear the deadwood from the club — these ambitions can be realized.

Latest West Ham Transfer News

If West Ham is to finish in the top ten, they will need to be as well rounded as possible in order to do so.

There are a few problem positions for the Londoners that they will be looking to target. Moyes believes that there will be money to spend, but the size of the check he is to be given is not clear.

As with any transfer news, the vast bulk of it is pure speculation. However, there are a few players that could certainly do the job for the club.

One name that has been linked with a transfer to London Stadium is Chelsea’s Olivier Giroud.

A FIFA World Cup winner in 2018, Giroud has fallen behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi in the pecking order under Frank Lampard. With his contract set to expire in the summer, the former Arsenal striker could feasibly opt to stay in London with West Ham.

Brazilian ace Gabriel Barbosa is another player that could help fire West Ham into the top ten.

The club’s other problem positions are central midfield and right back.

Moyes is reportedly looking at Getafe’s Nemanja Maksimovic, Stoke City’s Joe Allen, Spurs’ Victor Wanyama, and Nantes’ Abdoulaye Toure to add weight in the middle of the park.

At right-back, there is talk of Moyes wanting to sign Derby County’s Jaden Bogle.

With Pablo Zabaleta leaving in the summer and Ryan Fredericks failing to fully convince, this seems like the best option.

Odds on Other Teams to Finish in the Top 10

Arsenal -600
Wolverhampton Wanderers -500
Everton -163
Sheffield United -125
Crystal Palace +200
Southampton +400
Brighton & Hove Albion +450
Newcastle United +750
Burnley +800

If you are going to pass on betting on West Ham to finish in the top ten of the EPL this season, there are other options available.

Arsenal and Wolves at -600 and -500, respectively, look pretty much like solid bets. However, the odds aren’t great here, and they wouldn’t exactly suit anyone looking to risk a little to make a profit.

Moving on down the list, Everton at -163 is decent. With Carlo Ancelotti in charge, you can bet that there will be money to spend at Goodison Park. If the Italian managerial legend can get the best out of this team, finishing in the top ten should be easily achievable.

Sheffield United at -125 is not a bet that I think holds much value. Sure, The Blades have surprised everyone this season — especially those who had them pegged for a relegation battle — but I’m not sure that they can keep things going.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace (+200), Southampton (+400), Brighton & Hove Albion (+450), Newcastle United (+750), and Burnley (+800) make up the rest of the contenders for a top ten finish in 2019/20.

EPL Relegation Odds and Markets

Here are the latest odds on the team to finish bottom at the end of the 2019/20 EPL season.

Norwich City -250
Watford +650
Aston Villa +800
AFC Bournemouth +1100
West Ham United +2500
Brighton & Hove Albion +6600
Burnley +8000
Newcastle United +8000

And let’s start with poor old Norwich City.

Despite some encouraging performances this season, The Canaries have won just a single game in 16 matches. They have been unfortunate at times and just seem to lack something when it comes to the crunch.

As it stands, Norwich is -250 to be relegated as the bottom team in the EPL. You would be brave at this point to bet against that, even if it is hard to believe that they are 20th in the league right now.

Up next, we have Watford at odds of +650 to finish bottom. Despite showing some excellent signs of making big strides last season, which led to an 11th-place finish at the end of the campaign, The Hornets have been woeful in 2019/20.

Watford is in serious danger of relegation but could even finish bottom if they cannot get themselves out of this current slump. A 2-1 win over Wolves started 2020 very positively, and odds of +650 indicate that these players are better than where they currently find themselves.

Aston Villa at +800 could be worth a shot. However, Villa has earned 21 points this season and currently sits in 17th place.

As for the rest of the teams in this market, I’m not quite sure that we will see any of them finishing bottom.

Latest Odds on Teams to Finish in the EPL Top 6

Leicester City -10000
Chelsea -1200
Spurs -250
Man Utd -225
Arsenal +200
Wolves +275
Everton +1000
Sheffield United +1600

Let’s start looking a little higher than the EPL basement to the upper reaches of the table.

With Liverpool looking to have the title as good as won, European soccer will now be the agenda for most other teams. Man City and Leicester will be confident of securing Champions League spots, but who will get that remaining qualifying place?

Of course, there is no guarantee that The Citizens or The Foxes will be playing Champions League soccer in 2020/2021, but it would be a huge surprise if City, at least, was not.

Finishing in the top six is the aim of many clubs at the start of the season.

As it stands, the likes of Spurs, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal will be looking to do better and qualify for the top European soccer tournament. But with so many teams vying for one position, one of the big names will miss out.

Will Arsenal Finish in the Top 6?

The odds on Arsenal finishing in the top six are +200. I think this is a good bet, as I fully expect Mikel Arteta to do a great job at the club he once captained.

Arsenal is currently 10th in the EPL with 27 points. They are just three points behind arch-rivals Spurs, who occupy the sixth spot.

Spurs’ odds of -250 to finish in the top six are decent, but I do believe that it will take Jose Mourinho time to put his own stamp on the team. Their recent loss to Southampton exposed just how out of sorts they are, while Arsenal, on the other hand, looked excellent in their win over United on New Year’s Day.

Mezut Ozil and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang stood out, among others, and the team looked miles better than it had under Unai Emery.

Man Utd’s odds of finishing in the top six are -225. While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should be given time to rebuild United, there is still pressure on him to deliver a top-six finish, at least.

But will there be serious money spent in January, or will Solskjaer have to work with what he currently has? I believe he will be given a decent-sized war chest, but nothing that will enable him to sign world-class players capable of making a huge difference.

The other teams that will be fighting against Arsenal, Spurs, and United for a top-six finish are Wolves at odds of +275 and Everton at +1000.

Wolves have been very consistent this year and could feasibly improve on their finishing place of 7th last season.

Everton might be worth a long shot at odds of +1000. They are just five points off sixth place as it stands and will have the expertise of Ancelotti to their favor.

The Best EPL Bets to Target in 2020?

At this point, there is so much that can affect where each team will finish at the end of the season.

We have seen managers replaced, players’ form improve and decline, and will welcome new players to the EPL over the course of the next month. All of these factors, in addition to others, can transform the fortunes of clubs.

But still, I think there are two bets that I really like the look of this year.

One is West Ham to finish in the top ten at odds of +450. This is well worth a shot for a team that has quality and the money to recruit for players that can make a difference.

With Moyes at the helm, I think the team will benefit. The 4-0 win over Bournemouth will also give them confidence at a key stage of the season.

The other bet I’m drawn to is Arsenal to finish in the top six at odds of +200.

As I explained above, there are many reasons to believe that The Gunners can put in a solid showing over the rest of the campaign. A top-six finish is not only feasible but a very strong possibility.

Final Words

West Ham to finish in the top ten and Arsenal to crack the top six are two bets that many would have seen as highly likely prior to the start of the season.

But circumstances have prevented both teams from finding their feet so far. Now, with Moyes and Arteta in charge, we could see the best of these two in 2020.
