Vitebsk vs. Slavia Mozyr Betting Preview – Belarusian Premier League, May 3

One of the surprise leaders in Belarus this season welcomes Slavia Mozyr to town this Sunday, looking to keep up the pressure on the clubs above it in the league and consolidate its impressive position.

Vitebsk has surprised a few people already this year and will believe that Slavia will not be able to put up too much of a fight after crashing out of the cup in midweek to BATE.

Vitebsk has not really been included in conversations about possible champions this season, even with the top teams struggling for form. But the club sits just three points off the top of the table and should really have shorter odds to beat a poor Slavia Mozyr side at home this weekend. Online sportsbook BetOnline prefers to price this game fairly evenly, so the odds for a home win are actually fairly good value.

There have not been a lot of goals in Vitebsk games so far this season, and it is actually something of an achievement for the club to be so high in the league table while only managing to find the net four times. But a strong defense has been the main reason for that, and that could be the main tactic once again this weekend.

The defeat to Isloch last time out was a major disappointment for Vitebsk as it looked to forget last season’s horror show and mount a challenge for the upper reaches of the table this year. That was the only loss in April, however, so there is probably not too much to worry about at the moment.

Slavia Mozyr, on the other hand, has a lot more that should be concerning manager Mihail Martsinovich. The cup run has now ended in semifinal disappointment, and the league campaign is stalling as well. Two wins in the first three games was a great start, but it has gone steadily downhill from there.

The standard of opponents has hardly been a factor in the lack of points, either. The main problem has been a defense that has consistently given up goals. No other club in the Belarusian Premier League has conceded more than Slavia, and that needs to change quickly if a relegation battle isn’t the more likely outcome further down the line.

After only just escaping relegation last season, it might be that Vitebsk will drop further down the table as the weeks go on. But at the moment, it can look to pick up some more points to slow down that possible decline. The odds for a home win here are too good to pass up considering the way Slavia has played this season.
