Updated Title Odds and Analysis for Liga MX in 2022

The 2022 Clausura Liga MX playoffs kick off on Saturday, May 7. You have come to the right place if you plan to bet on the Liga MX postseason.
After clinching the top four spots in the standings, Pachuca, Tigres UANL, Atlas, and Club America have already booked their place in the quarterfinals. Eight teams will battle it out for the remaining four QF berths this weekend.
The bookmakers have updated their Liga MX odds for the playoffs. Therefore, it’s my job to examine the prices, analyze the favorites and sleepers, and provide my 2022 Liga MX playoff predictions.
There is only one place to start – the latest Liga MX championship odds.
2022 Liga MX Odds – Clausura Title
All the best soccer betting sites have updated their Liga BBVA MX odds ahead of the Clausura playoffs.
As you can see, the four confirmed quarterfinalists find themselves atop the latest Liga MX betting odds. The other eight teams have yet to punch their ticket to the next phase.
Having dominated the regular season, Pachuca (5.00) is the bookies’ favorite to clinch the Clausura crown. But Tigres UANL (5.50), Atlas (7.00), and Club America (7.00) are also expected to challenge for the title.
There is very little to separate Cruz Azul (13.00), Pumas UNAM (15.00), Necaxa (15.00), and Atletico San Luis (17.00). Lastly, Mazatlan (21.00) heads into the playoffs as the outsider after sneaking into the top 12 on-goal difference.
Torneo Clausura Liga MX Standings (2022)
Before we take a closer look at the Liga MX Clausura betting favorites and sleepers, we need to assess the standings. Analyzing the final standings will give you a greater chance of making successful Liga MX playoff predictions.
There is no denying that Pachuca has been the best team this season. It’s also fair to say that Tigres UANL is Pachuca’s biggest threat. However, there is very little between the other ten sides outside the top two.
Naturally, Pachuca and Tigres top the Liga BBVA MX betting odds as we head into the Clausura playoffs. But given the competitive nature of the league, the other teams will fancy their chances of upsetting the Liga MX odds.
So, who will win the Liga MX title? It’s time to inspect the bookmakers’ frontrunners.
Assessing the Favorites for the 2022 Clausura Liga MX Playoffs
According to the latest Liga BBVA MX odds, there are four clear favorites for the 2022 Clausura title. In this section, I assess the chances of Pachuca, Tigres UANL, Atlas, and Club America.
Can Pachuca Maintain Their Regular-Season Form?
Pachuca finished all the way down in fifteenth place in the 2021 Apertura standings, meaning they failed to qualify for the playoffs altogether. What a difference five months makes!
Fast-forward to today – Guillermo Almada’s side is the favorite to win the Clausura. Having lost just three of their 17 regular-season matches, the Gophers are in pole position to add to their Clausura triumphs of 2006, 2007, and 2016.
Nicolas Ibanez sits second on the Golden Boot leaderboard with nine goals, while Oscar Ustari is one of only three goalkeepers to have kept seven clean sheets this year. Can they fire Pachuca to glory?
Will Tigres UANL Reclaim the Clausura Crown?
For the best part of a decade, UANL has been one of the most successful clubs in Mexico. After winning four Apertura titles in seven seasons between 2011 and 2017, the team clinched the Clausura crown in 2019.
If their performances in 2022 are anything to go by, the Tigers could add another title to their collection this year.
Miguel Herrera’s boys suffered only four defeats in 17 games during the regular-season outings, picking up ten wins and three draws along the way. Thanks largely to the exploits of Andre-Pierre Gignac, they are also the top scorers this year.
TOP GOALSCORERS (2022 LIGA MX CLAUSURA) | |||
---|---|---|---|
Player | Team | Games | Goals |
Andre-Pierre Gignac | Tigres UANL | 16 | 11 |
Nicolas Ibanez | Pachuca | 16 | 9 |
Rodrigo Aguirre | Necaxa | 14 | 9 |
German Berterame | Atletico San Luis | 17 | 7 |
Leonardo Fernandez | Deportivo Toluca | 15 | 7 |
It is worth noting that UANL heads into the Liga MX playoffs on a three-game winless run, having suffered back-to-back defeats to Necaxa and America before drawing with Atlas. Still, they are more than capable of turning things around.
Could Atlas Clinch Back-to-Back Titles?
Atlas ended a 70-year title drought by claiming the Apertura crown last year. Suddenly, they are a handful of wins away from securing back-to-back titles.
Granted, Los Zorros finished six points shy of Tigres and 11 points behind Pachuca in the Clausura standings. But after conceding the same number of goals as Pachuca, they will be confident going deep in the Liga MX playoffs.

Atlas comes into the postseason on a three-match unbeaten streak. After holding Monterrey to a goalless draw, they thrashed Toluca 4-2 before recording a 1-1 draw with UANL last time out.
Momentum is key when it comes to the playoffs. Although Diego Cocca’s men have plenty of momentum behind them, they are not the league’s in-form team. That title belongs to Club America.
Can Anyone End Club America’s Hot Streak?
It is no exaggeration to say that America made a dreadful start to the Clausura campaign. Following a run of just one victory in ten games, the club had no choice but to part ways with head coach Santiago Solari.
Since then, interim coach Fernando Ortiz has completely transformed the team. Thanks to an eight-game unbeaten streak – including six straight wins – the Eagles are soaring.
In addition to being the league’s in-form team, America is also the most successful club in the history of Mexican soccer. With 13 titles to their name, the Eagles are masters of winning silverware.
- Club America: 13
- Guadalajara: 12
- Deportivo Toluca: 10
- Cruz Azul: 9
- Club Leon: 8
It is also worth pointing out that Ortiz’s boys kept seven clean sheets across their final eight regular-season games, conceding a solitary goal in the process. Talk about defensive solidity!
When I revealed my soccer betting strategy a few months ago, I talked about the importance of studying recent form. With that in mind, you cannot ignore Club America when making a 2022 Clausura Liga MX prediction.
Outsiders That Could Beat the 2022 Liga MX Odds
Of course, Pachuca, Tigres UANL, Atlas, and Club America are best placed to win the title. Still, before we settle on a Clausura Liga BBVA MX prediction, we need to inspect a few teams that could upset the Liga MX betting odds.
Guadalajara (11.00)
Guadalajara will be brimming with confidence after ending the regular season with four straight wins. Thanks to victories over Cruz Azul, Club Tijuana, UNAM, and Necaxa, Guadalajara finished level with fourth-place America on 26 points.
Only Club America has won more Liga MX titles than Guadalajara over the years. Having last triumphed back in 2017, Las Chivas will be eager to match America’s haul of 13 titles this season.
Cruz Azul (13.00)
Cruz Azul dominated the 2021 Clausura. After finishing atop the regular-season standings, they notched postseason triumphs over Toluca, Pachuca, and Santos Laguna to secure their first title since 1997.
The Sky Blues failed to reach the 2021 Apertura quarterfinals, but they are now just one victory away from reaching the last eight. They also managed to end America’s six-game winning streak last time out.
Only Pachuca and Atlas have conceded fewer goals than Cruz Azul this season. If Juan Reynoso’s boys can maintain their impressive defensive record, they will give themselves an excellent chance of going all the way.
Mazatlan (21.00)
When Mazatlan posted an eight-game winless run between February and April, the club’s postseason dreams all but vanished. However, the Gunboats managed to seal four straight victories over Atlas, Sanots, Juarez, and Puebla to book their spot in the playoffs.
Although Mazatlan is the bookies’ rank outsider, you would be foolish to write them off altogether. Over the past few weeks, Gabriel Caballero’s men have proved that they can compete with – and beat – the top teams in the country.
My Prediction for the 2022 Clausura Liga MX Playoffs
In my eyes, Pachuca and Tigres UANL are the teams to beat in the playoffs. Both sides enjoyed seriously strong regular seasons, so I can see them going deep into the postseason.
Boasting the joint-best defensive record in the league, Pachuca finished five points clear of UANL. That said, the goalscoring form of Andre-Pierre Gignac makes the Tigers a serious threat. The veteran French striker could fire his team to glory in the coming weeks.
I also really like the look of Club America at the moment. The Eagles racked up six straight wins towards the end of the regular season, so I expect them to push Pachuca and UANL all the way.
