Union Berlin vs. Schalke Betting Preview With Pick – Bundesliga, June 7
This game looks like an excellent opportunity for Union Berlin to arrest a terrible run of results and pull away from what has suddenly become a fight against relegation.
Schalke has been one of the weakest teams in the Bundesliga since soccer returned in Germany, and it is only the performances before the break from David Wagner’s side that has saved it from being involved in that scrap as well. Read on for my Union Berlin vs. Schalke prediction and betting pick.
Union Berlin vs. Schalke Odds
BetOnline has this game priced fairly evenly, and that is no surprise as both these clubs have struggled to adapt since the Bundesliga resumed just under a month ago. Schalke has dropped dramatically, and Union Berlin really looks to be missing the input and support of its fans. The draw bet could be the way to go here.
Union Berlin vs. Schalke Match Preview
Union Berlin has faced a number of difficult fixtures since the resumption of soccer in Germany but has looked limited in the majority of its games. Just one point from a possible twelve has meant the top-flight debutant is now struggling to escape falling straight back down to the second tier again.
The good news is that top scorer Sebastian Andersson finally got on the scoresheet against Borussia Monchengladbach last week. But that was the only goal in a 4-1 defeat, and Union’s battling displays of earlier in the season have disappeared. The fight needs to return if relegation is to be avoided.
But there is an argument that Schalke is looking in an even worse way than Union Berlin at the moment. European qualification had looked distinctly possible before Christmas, but there has been just one win since the start of the year and four straight defeats since the Bundesliga returned in May.
Head coach David Wagner is in real danger of losing his job with just five games to go of the season and a poor result here could mean the end of his tenure. Schalke has now dropped into the bottom half of the table and looks to be petering out in a season that held such promise just a few months ago. Weston McKennie will also miss this game, so there might be less bite in the middle of the pitch for the visitors.
Prediction and Pick
Union Berlin to Win+151
It has become almost a cliché to say that Union has missed the passion of its fans with all games now played behind closed doors. But there is probably no other side in the Bundesliga that the lack of real “home advantage” has impacted more. But Schalke is in a bad way at the moment and this looks like a great chance for Urs Fischer’s side to give itself some breathing space at the bottom of the table and pick up a much-needed victory.
