Betting Guide With Odds and Predictions for UFC Vegas 49

| February 23, 2022 11:56 am PDT
Islam Makhachev and Bobby Green with Russian and US flags behind them

UFC Vegas 49 predictions incoming! Of course, I’m not just going to make full card predictions for the fights in Vegas this Saturday, February 26. I’ll also be providing odds as well as UFC Vegas 49 betting tips for Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green and more top fights in the lineup.

Admittedly, this event is probably the poorest in terms of quality we have seen this year. At the very least, it’s going to be a card that casual fans will get excited by.

Betting on UFC Vegas 49, on the other hand, will not differ much from any other card. You are here to win your UFC bets and I am going to try my hardest to help you get there.

Let’s kick this betting guide off by starting with the odds for the UFC Vegas 49 main card.

Odds for Every Fight at UFC Vegas 49

Event Odds
Main Event – Islam Makhachev, Bobby Green -900, +550
Co-Main Event – Misha Cirkunov, Wellington Turman -115, +105
Main Card 3 – Priscila Cachoeira, Ji Yeon Kim +143, -163
Main Card 2 – Arman Tsarukyan, Joel Alvarez -227, +192
Main Card 1 – Gregory Rodrigues, Armen Petrosyan -160, +140

I’ve taken the odds from the BetOnline sportsbook. As you can see, the UFC Vegas 49 odds for Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green paint quite the picture.

It’s not that I’m saying the Makhachev vs. Green betting line is wide. It would perhaps be more apt to surmise that the bookies anticipate this fight being an absolute walkover for the Russian.

Given you would need to put $900 on Makhachev to win $100, there is little choice for most of us than to look at some of the top prop bets for UFC Vegas 49. I’ll cover the best one for this fight in the next section.

Moving on from the main event, things get a lot more competitive. The UFC Vegas 49 odds for the co-main indicate that Misha Cirkunov and Wellington Turman will be a tougher fight to predict.

Islam Makhachev vs. Bobby Green

  • Division: Catchweight (160 Pounds)
  • Betting Favorite: Makhachev (-900)
  • Predicted Winner: Makhachev
Islam Makhachev

I was looking forward to getting my teeth stuck into betting on UFC Vegas 49’s initial main event.

Unfortunately, Beneil Dariush’s broken fibula has ruled him out. The lightweight contender will hopefully get his shot at the Russian further down the line. Until then, let’s just hope he recovers fully and without any real long-term damage to his career.

The upside of placing bets on UFC Vegas 49’s new headliner is that Dariush’s replacement, Bobby Green, is a badass. Despite approaching his tenth anniversary with the promotion, this is his first appearance at the top of a bill. Real fans could not be happier for him.

But what can Green to do beat one of the UFC fighters set for a breakout year in 2022? Does he have the tools to pull off what would be a huge upset over the protege of Dagestani legend, Khabib Nurmagomedov? I doubt there will be many predictions for UFC Vegas 49 in his favor.

So, does that mean making your Makhachev vs. Green picks for UFC Vegas 49 requires no thought? Are you ready to bet it all on Makhachev to beat Green, and be done with it? In both cases, it would be foolish not to consider your options.

First, the moneyline odds for Makhachev vs. Green make it difficult to back the Russian. So, exploring the top UFC Vegas 49 props on our recommended betting apps for MMA fights should be at the top of the agenda.

Of course, you’re going to want to get the best odds for the likeliest scenario in this fight. As I don’t see Green having anything more than a puncher’s chance here, I don’t fancy him for the upset. So, most props should be targeting a win for the favorite.

Again, those odds are restrictive, so it’s a case of looking for the top UFC Vegas 49 picks that offer value. My thoughts are that Green is by no means a pushover, but he will look to keep this fight on the feet.

Despite 18 of his fights in the UFC going to the judges’ scorecards, he stunned Al Iaquinta — a man who took Khabib the distance for the lightweight strap in 2018 — by knocking him out inside the first round of their bout back in November.

Although Green has shown he can catch you off guard, I wouldn’t invest too much in his power. Sure, Islam’s only loss came by way of a KO, but he has shown a solid chin against much harder hitters since then.

Green will be a tricky prospect, but I cannot see him keeping things on the feet for the full 25-minutes. The chances are that the blue belt will be taken down by the Russian, with his 72% takedown defense taking a dent from what should be several trips to the mat.

Once there, it’s tough to see Green surviving. Makhachev holds the keys in the cardio department. Most importantly, he has submitted four of his last six opponents.

While you can’t completely write off Green in this fight, a combination of short notice (two weeks from last fight) and his inexperience against elite submission artists make this a nightmare bout.

  • Prediction: Makhachev by Submission
  • Pick: Makhachev by Submission (-110)

Misha Cirkunov vs. Wellington Turman

  • Division: Middleweight
  • Betting Favorite: Cirkunov (-115)
  • Predicted Winner: Cirkunov

The co-main event also looks different from the scrap we were initially looking forward to.

Wellington Turman stepped in for the injured Makhmud Muradov. Unlike Green, he has had a full month to prepare for his opponent. That extra couple of weeks is worth considering before making picks for UFC Vegas 49 this weekend.

UFC Vegas 49 odds for Cirkunov vs. Turman have this one as close to a pick ’em as you can get without level prices. There is little to separate both guys on paper, which is exciting if you a neutral fan just looking to watch them go at it.

If you are indeed looking for betting tips for UFC Vegas 49, however, it’s worth covering a few things. The most important being who wins the fight and why.

So, I like Cirkunov to emerge victorious here. Although the cut to 185-pounds from 205 hasn’t reaped major rewards just yet, the Latvian will be faced with an easier task this time around. Krzysztof Jotko beat him by way of a split decision in his middleweight debut, but the Canadian-based BJJ blackbelt should have a better showing against Turman.

A grafter, the Brazilian is proficient in most areas. However, he is not the fastest nor the most diverse of fighters and this has ultimately been the reason why we haven’t seen him do more than pick up wins over Markus Perez and Sam Alvey in a 2-3 run under the banner.

Turman is smart to take this fight, given his low standing in the promotion. And while a loss here might not lead to him being cut, it could come back to bite him.

I’ll take Cirkunov at these odds just to win. Although Andrew Sanchez and Bruno Silva knocked Turman out in one, the moneyline price is safe when betting against a guy that has made the distance in three of his five defeats as a pro.

  • Prediction: Cirkunov by KO/TKO
  • Pick: Cirkunov to Win (-115)

Ji Yeon Kim vs. Priscila Cachoeira

  • Division: Flyweight
  • Betting Favorite: Kim (-163)
  • Predicted Winner: Cachoeira

I’m slightly surprised to see the UFC Vegas 49 odds favor Kim in this bout.

The Korean is 1-3 from her last four, which includes a loss to Antonina Shevchenko. Granted, Cachoeira is 2-2 from hers, but back-to-back stoppages over Shana Dobson and Gina Mazany before being submitted by Gillian Robertson last time out are nothing to be sniffed at.

In all fairness, neither of these fighters stand head and shoulders above the other in terms of skillset. But the biggest advantage I have considered when making UFC Vegas 49 predictions for this one is Cachoeira’s power.

Priscila Cachoeira Record
14 Fights 10 Wins 4 Losses
KO/TKOs 6 0
Submissions 0 2
Decisions 4 2

Neither fighter has been knocked out in their respective careers. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Brazilian change that, at the expense of Kim’s record.

The one thing that will be difficult to overcome is the seven-inch reach advantage “Fire Fist,” holds over Cachoeira, who stands at the same height (5’7″) but just 65 inches in reach.

Kim will be aware that another failed attempt to cut weight will come back to haunt her. It could, coupled with a loss, be enough to see her pushed through the promotion’s exit doors.

With two straight losses under her belt, the pressure is on. And doesn’t pressure have a habit of bringing the worst out of some fighters?

You could call this a 50-50 fight. In that case, I’d consider opting for Cachoeira on the moneyline odds for UFC Vegas 49. But with both guys’ chins factored in, the smarter wager is the fight to go the distance.

  • Prediction: Cachoeira by KO/TKO
  • Pick: Fight Goes the Distance (-165)

Arman Tsarukyan vs. Joel Alvarez

  • Division: Lightweight
  • Betting Favorite: Tsarukyan (-227)
  • Predicted Winner: Alvarez

I’ll get to my free betting tips for UFC Vegas 49 after I make an unofficial prediction for this weekend’s fights — this will be the fight of the night.

Again, the oddsmakers setting the betting lines for UFC Vegas 49 have completely overlooked Alvarez. The Spaniard gets no respect whatsoever, or so it seems, with his odds once again making him one of the top UFC sleepers to target.

Having submitted Joseph Duffy and Alexander Yakovlev, “El Fenomeno” knocked out Thiago Moises for his fourth straight win in the promotion since losing his debut to Damir Ismagulov. Those last three fights all ended inside the first round.

So, what is there to concern myself when making predictions and picks for UFC Vegas 49 for this one? Well, we could start with the fact that Tsarukyan is a beast. This will be a very tough test for Alvarez, but one that I think he should pass.

The only man to beat the Armenian in his five-fight UFC career is the headliner, Makhachev. Before that, you have to back to 2015 for a smear on this guy’s record.

Although cutting weight is a problem for Alvarez, if he does manage it, he should hold some very effective advantages.

At 6’3, he towers over Tsarukyan, who stands at just 5’7″. Now, height isn’t everything, but when it is coupled with a guy with a 4.5″ reach advantage and a massive swell-out weight come fight night, it should spell trouble.

Alvarez is a monster for this division. There’s no doubt that another failed attempt to make 155 will see him pushed up to welterweight. But for the time being, he’s at 155, and there will be few fighters capable of stopping him until that day comes.

If you’re undecided on the betting odds for UFC Vegas 49, consider the fact that Alvarez has never gone the distance. He has 16 submission wins in his career, as well as three KO/TKOs. His opponent, on the other hand, has six KO/TKO wins and decisions apiece, as well as five sub wins.

At the odds, I would be crazy not to make Alvarez one of the top UFC Vegas 49 picks for the night. The moneyline odds mean there is no need to look over the props for the UFC this weekend. Unless you’re chasing a big score, that is.

  • Prediction: Alvarez by KO/TKO
  • Pick: Alvarez to Win (+192)

Armen Petrosyan vs. Gregory Rodrigues

  • Division: Middleweight
  • Betting Favorite: Rodriguez (-160)
  • Predicted Winner: Rodriguez

Both men share the same short-term ambition — move one step forward toward breaking into the official UFC rankings.

That alone should make for a top-class middleweight clash. In terms of making UFC Vegas 49 predictions, it’s a tough nut to crack.

Petrosyan slept Kaloyan Kolev on Dana White’s Contender Series back in October to earn a UFC contract. That was his sixth straight win, as well as stoppage, as a professional. Needless to say, the 31-year-old is hardly the freshest kid on the block. He does have time, however, to become a problem at 185.

Rodrigues is also a Contender Series contestant. However, his appearance on the show did not go to plan, suffering a stoppage to Jordan Williams. Since then, “Robocop” has won three consecutive fights including a victory over the solid Dusko Todorovic in June.

The Sandford MMA team member is a solid grappler with good all-around skills. This gives him something of an advantage over Petrosyan, who is more of a striker than anything else.

Although Rodriguez is the obvious pick here, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Armenian pulls it out of the bag. Those betting on UFC Vegas 49 can clearly see that the oddsmakers aren’t 100% sold on either guy.

The safest bet here would be for the fight to end under 2.5 Rounds. With Rodriguez’s submission game and knockout power, he could get things done both ways. As previously mentioned, Petrosyan has never made the distance.

  • Prediction: Rodriguez by Submission
  • Pick: Fight to End Under 2.5 Rounds (-220)

UFC Vegas 49 Predictions for the Prelims

That’s my predictions for UFC Vegas 49 covered where the main card is concerned. Now, it’s time to reveal my choices for the preliminary portion of the event.

  • Ignacio Bahamondes to Beat Zhu Rong by Decision
  • Terrance McKinney to Beat Fares Ziam by KO/TKO
  • Jinh Yu Frey to Beat Hannah Goldy by Decision
  • Jonathan Martinez to Beat Alejandro Perez by Decision
  • Ramiz Brahimaj to Beat Micheal Gillmore by Submission
  • Victor Altamirano to Beat Carlos Hernandez by KO/TKO

The opportunities to make some top betting picks for UFC Vegas 49 don’t end with the main card.

There are some interesting fights on the undercard that might be worth looking at. As usual, I would recommend warranting caution if there are names you are not too familiar with. Our UFC betting strategy will help you in that department, especially as knowledge of relative unknowns can work in your favor.

Take some time to go over the predictions for UFC Vegas 49 above. When you’re ready, let’s get to the best fights to target on the card.

Top UFC Vegas 49 Picks

This week, I’m making three top UFC Vegas 49 betting picks for you to look at.

These are the picks that I believe to be the safest, and most reliable. Now, this does not mean that these bets are certain to come in. Unfortunately, things don’t work that way. Instead, see them as the best betting tips for UFC Vegas 49.

  • Makhachev to Win by Submission – Green has excellent takedown defense. But this is Makhachev we are talking about here. If you’re offering paltry moneyline odds for UFC Vegas 49’s main event for the Russian, taking him at -110 for the submission is a great bit of business.
  • Cirkunov to Win – The UFC Vegas 49 odds look great for Cirkunov to pick up the win. He is -115 on the moneyline, which represents excellent value. I don’t see the need in running the risk of predicting an erroneous method of victory when you have this price.
  • Martinez to Win – I believe Martinez has Perez’s number in this bout. However, a decision victory looks to be the likeliest outcome. Of course, I wouldn’t rule out a stoppage, hence my recommended UFC Vegas 49 pick being to take the moneyline at -240.

Best UFC Vegas 49 Sleepers

Last up in my top betting tips for UFC Vegas 49 is with the sleepers.

This weekend’s UFC fights are not as tempting with underdog plays. Still, there are two excellent value picks to get your teeth stuck into.

  • Alvarez to Win – At odds of +192 just to win, even the most conservative UFC bettor would jump at these. If you want to have a pop at Alvarez to keep his 100% finishing record going, you can get +450 for him to win by submission and/or +750 for him to win by way of KO/TKO.
  • Ramiz Brahimaj to Win by Submission – From nine wins, Brahimaj has picked up nine submissions. One of the big betting favorites for UFC Vegas 49, why the bookies are offering +110 for him to win by submission escapes me. Insane value.

If you’re gambling on UFC Vegas 49, the information above should serve you well.

I guess the only other things to suggest are to play for value and ensure that you know at least a little about the fighters you are backing. That might sound all too obvious, but you would be surprised at how many casual bettors make UFC picks based on a fighter’s surname or other arbitrary things.
