Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino vs. Rukh Brest Belarusian Premier League

Rukh Brest is doing as well as can be expected so far as it navigates the tougher competition in the Belarusian Premier League. Sunday sees the small club from the southwest of the country travel to Zhodino to take on Torpedo-BelAZ.

It has been a largely positive start for the hosts as well, but Torpedo will know that it cannot afford to drop points in fixtures like this if it is to finish high up in the table at the end of the season.

You can find more details below in my Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino vs. Rukh Brest betting preview.

I feel that BetOnline has priced this game just about right. Torpedo has to be considered favorites for the win, considering the way it has started the season. Rukh has looked to be no pushover after coming up from the league below but should not be able to come away from Zhodino with much at all.

Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino vs. Rukh Brest Match Preview

Three wins out of the first four games had seen Torpedo top the table briefly before last weekend. But the trip to take on BATE Borisov halted that form. Manager Yuri Puntas will take the goalless draw as a huge achievement, though, as he set out his side to defend, and it lived up to his expectations.

The fact that the Torpedo players were not averse to using physical strength and outright fouling to get their way should not be ignored. But I think that was more of a tactic specifically engineered for the BATE game rather than a long-term strategy.

Either way, Rukh will be on the lookout for a repeat of those strongarm tactics this Sunday. The “other club” from Brest has begun its season fairly well, and the victory over a rapidly declining FC Minsk side last weekend was fully deserved and took the club to a respectable mid-table position.

This game should be much more difficult, however. Rukh has relied on its own defense to get where it is at the moment, and it may not be strong enough to keep out this Torpedo side. Two goals from five games do not suggest that the Rukh strikers will play a big part in this game.

My Prediction and Pick

  • Torpedo-BelAZ Zhodino to Win

Rukh may have been able to keep the majority of its opponents from scoring this year, but it does not seem like a sustainable tactic to continue with indefinitely. At some point, coach Aleksandr Sedynov will need to get his forwards scoring goals. That might not happen on Sunday, though, and Torpedo could take advantage of a relatively easy game to consolidate its position in the league.
