Top UFC Fights to Bet on in February 2022 – Adesanya vs. Whittaker 2 and More

| January 28, 2022 10:28 am PDT

It’s time to look at the top UFC fights to bet on in February 2022.

Each month, I curate a list of the best fights in the UFC that you can place wagers on. Typically, there are at least a couple of big fights on each card. The number of events can be anywhere between two and five, and I’ll essentially pick the ones that you should look out for.

As for the best UFC fights to wager on this February? Well, we have four events scheduled for the month, which gives us a nice batch of bouts to choose from. All eyes will be on the biggest fight of the month in Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker 2, but this is not the only scrap you can gamble on in February 2022.

The first card of February goes down in Vegas and is headlined by what should be an entertaining middleweight encounter. Let’s start with UFC Vegas 46.

UFC Vegas 46

  • Main Event: Hermansson vs. Strickland
  • Date: February 5, 2022
  • Venue: UFC Apex – Las Vegas

The first event of the new month has some of February’s best UFC fights to bet on.

The main event will be the key attraction, of course, so let’s look at that one first.

Jack Hermansson vs. Sean Strickland

Denmark’s Hermansson appears to be one of the most laid-back guys on the roster.

America’s Strickland is up there with the craziest guys the promotion has ever seen. Or, at least, that’s what he wants you to think.

Jack Hermansson and Sean Strickland

Regardless of the contrasting mindsets, what these two have in common is that they are top-tier middleweight fighters. And when they meet in the center of the cage, they will prove why Hermansson vs. Strickland is one of the best UFC fights to bet on this February 2022.

Hermansson is 3-2 from his last five. He’s coming off a decision win over Glendale golden boy Edmen Shahbazyan, with victories over Jacare Souza and Kelvin Gastelum standing with losses to Jared Cannonier and Marvin Vettori.

Strickland is looking for his sixth straight win on the night. He has put Jack Marshman, Brendan Allen Krzysztof Jotko, and Uriah Hall away and would leapfrog Hermansson to #6 in the official UFC rankings with a victory on the night.

This should be a tear up. You can find odds for Hermansson vs. Strickland and the rest of the fights on the card on the Bovada betting app or site.

Shavkat Rakhmonov vs. Carlston Harris

What a fun bout this should be. I’m certain it will prove why it’s among the top fights in the UFC you can bet on this February.

First, I’m a huge fan of Rakhmonov. I tipped this guy to stop Alex Oliveira in his UFC debut and cited him among the top fighters to watch last year.

With a record of 14-0, with two straight submissions in the UFC, this guy is on fire. He has yet to fight more than once in a year since joining the promotion, so hopefully, 2022 will be a marker in the sand.

Harris is on a five-fight win streak having won his first two bouts in the promotion. A submission victory over Christian Aguilera and first-round KO of Impa Kasanganay have put “Mozambique” well and truly on the map.

Although I like both guys, Kazakhstan’s Rakhmonov is one of the fighters that is set for a breakout year in the UFC in 2022. I didn’t add him to the following list, but you can read about the others potentially set for big things this year, below.

Islam Makhachev and More UFC Stars Set for a Breakout Year in 2022

Although there are no magical changes that occur when the calendar hits January 1, the beginning of a new year can act as something of a psychological boost to those in the fight game. The top fighters to watch in the UFC in 2022 are those looking to push...

Hakeem Dawodu vs. Michael Trizano

If it’s fun you’re after when betting UFC fights in February, this one should be a belter.

Former The Ultimate Fighter winner Trizano has a tough test on his hands keeping strong Muay Thai striker Dawodu at bay. In turn, the Canadian will need a big performance to come out of this with the win.

Dawodu’s last trip to the Octagon ended in a decision loss to Movsar Evloev at UFC 263 back in the summer. That brought his five-fight winning streak to an end, which he will be looking to rebuild.

Trizano lost the first fight of his professional career to Grant Dawson in May 2019. A two-year layoff was put to rest when he returned to beat Ludovit Klein in May 2021. The TUF Season 27 winner will be hoping his winning ways continue in Vegas.

UFC 271

  • Main Event: Adesanya vs. Whittaker 2
  • Date: February 12, 2022
  • Venue: Toyota Center – Houston

I’ve been waiting a long time to see the Adesanya-Whittaker rematch.

Despite “Bobby Knuckles” suffering an unconvincing loss to “The Last Stylebender” in October 2019, I’m certain that this fight will be a more intriguing contest.

If you’re looking to bet real money on UFC 271, where better to start than with the headliner?

Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker

Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker

The two best middleweights in mixed martial arts will collide in what could be an early contender for the fight of the year.

Adesanya steps into the cage for the first time since beating Marvin Vettori for the second time in June 2021. Before that, a failed coup to dethrone Jan Blachowicz at light heavyweight saw the Nigerian-born New Zealander suffer his first loss as a mixed martial artist.

Needless to say, he will be desperate to hang on to his strap.

Whittaker brings a three-fight win streak into the Octagon, with no blemishes since his loss to Adesanya.

The Aussie’s path to reclaiming his title saw him faced with Darren Till, Jared Cannonier, and Kelvin Gastelum. Despite taking on three of the best 185-pounders in the division, he passed all tests with flying colors.

Aside from being up there with the best fights in the UFC you can bet on this February, the rematch should be one of the top scraps of the year. My early preview for betting on the fight can be found, below.

Is there betting value to be had on the early betting odds for Israel Adesanya vs. Robert Whittaker 2? The short answer is yes. There looks to be a clear betting favorite in this fight set for UFC 271 on February 12, but I’m anticipating a much closer...

Derrick Lewis vs. Tai Tuivasa

If fun UFC fights to wager on in February 2022 are your bag, this one should be somewhere near the top of the list.

Two-time heavyweight title challenger, Lewis, is coming off a loss to Ciryl Gane in his hometown of Houston, Texas. He gets a chance to bury the memory of falling short in front of his fans when he takes on the improving Tai Tuivasa, as well as the opportunity to improve his record for most KOs in UFC history (13).

Tuivasa will be a tough nut to crack. He is riding a four-fight win streak, which includes stoppage wins over Harry Hunsucker, Greg Hardy, and Augusto Sakai in 2021. With one foot out the door following a three-fight skid between 2018 and 2019, Tuivasa’s turnaround has been remarkable.

Circle this one in your calendar for UFC fights to bet on in February 2022.

Jared Cannonier vs. Derek Brunson

What a fight this should be.

No hype nor hyperbole is needed when you see these two names, side by side. Adesanya and Whittaker will fight for the title, but the winner of this one is bound to have the next shot at the title. Unless Whittaker wins and a trilogy fight is set.

The fight was rescheduled for UFC 271, and I believe that move was pretty gangster. To have Adesanya, Whittaker, and these two battle it out on the same card is insane.

UFC Vegas 48

  • Main Event: dos Anjos vs. Fiziev
  • Date: February 19, 2022
  • Venue: UFC Apex – Las Vegas

This card is admittedly a little lightweight when compared to its predecessor.

Still, there are a few of the top UFC fights in February to bet on featuring on it. The headliner will be a bout that fans will want to see, even if things don’t go the way of one of the promotion’s most popular lightweights.

Rafael dos Anjos vs. Rafael Fiziev

Should dos Anjos be worried about this one?

The Brazilian heads into the 44th fight of his career off the back of a split-decision win over Paul Felder in November 2020. He was subsequently matched up with Islam Makhachev, in a fight that fans were stoked to see, only to pull out with injury.

The former UFC lightweight king faces a very game opponent in Kyrgyzstan’s Fiziev.

Currently riding a five-fight winning streak — which includes a brutal stoppage of Brad Riddell in December — the #11 ranked 155-pounder can take one step closer to a top-five ranking with a win over the promotion’s veteran.

This should be fire.

Johnny Walker vs. Jamahal Hill

Currently fighting out of SBG Dublin, the home of Conor McGregor, Walker is hoping some of that star power rubs off.

The Brazilian was once touted as an example of the next generation of top fighters at light heavyweight. As things stand, he is 2-3 from his last five. He was beaten by compatriot Thiago Santos in his last bout, suffering a decision loss that has put him back a couple of steps.

Hill will be aware of the dangers the unorthodox knockout artist takes to the cage.

The American, who has five KO/TKOs from nine wins, will also be confident of taking the fight to Walker and coming away with the win.

This has all the makings of the most exciting fight on the card. It’s also worthy of a mention on my list of the best UFC fights to bet on in February 2022.

Joaquin Buckley vs. Abdul Razak Alhassan

One of the top fights to wager on in February 2022, this should be war.

You have two of the most exciting big-hitters at 185-pounds set to stand toe-to-toe. Both Buckley and Alhassan are eager to crack the official UFC rankings at middleweight and one of them could take a step closer to doing so with a win.

Buckley is, of course, renowned for his sensational KO win over Impa Kasanganay. You know, that knockout.

Unfortunately, since that knockout, he has struggled for consistency. He is 3-2 in the UFC so far, with losses to Alessio Di Chirico and Kevin Holland. That’s not a dreadful record at all, but a win over Alhassan would go a long way.

His opponent went 10-1 when he knocked out Niko Price at UFC 228 in 2018, only to pick up back-to-back losses against Mounir Lazzez, Khaos Williams, and Jacob Malkoun. His 17-second head kick KO over Di Chirico last April put him back in the winning column, however.

Easily one of the best fights you can bet on in the UFC this February, don’t miss it!

UFC Vegas 49

  • Main Event: Dariush vs. Makhachev
  • Date: February 26, 2022
  • Venue: UFC Apex – Las Vegas

The final UFC event of February goes down in Las Vegas.

Again, it’s the main event fans are looking forward to the most. For reasons that will become obvious. But there are two other fights I’m looking at.

Beneil Dariush vs. Islam Makhachev

Beneil Dariush and Islam Makhachev

Yes, it’s one of the top UFC fights to bet on in February 2022. But Dariush vs. Makhachev is much more than that.

What we’ve got here is a bout that could have a major influence on the immediate future of this division. Or, in other words, it could produce the fighter that goes on to reign at the top of 155-pound weight class, should things go their way.

Both under the management of Ali Abdelaziz, it pains the Egyptian boss to see two of his most prized stablemates have to fight. But if needs must.

“I don’t like it when two guys who I really love have to fight, but these two have worked their whole lives to become a champion and this is a No. 1 contender match.

Whoever wins this fight will fight for the title, so who am I to tell them not to fight? They’re at the top and I wish both guys the best of luck.”

Abdelaziz pretty much sums up the scenario here. Both guys are looking to extend their lengthy win streaks and, most importantly, land a shot at the lightweight strap.

Dariush is unbeaten in seven, while Makhachev is just one win away from a perfect ten in a row. Both guys are extremely confident of picking up wins, but those betting on UFC fights in February 2022 might struggle to separate them.

Either way, this fight should be class.

Makhmud Muradov vs. Misha Cirkunov

Another one of the top UFC fights in February 2022 that you can bet on. Or just sit back and enjoy.

Cirkunov is coming off a first-round KO loss to Ryan Spann having lost, by decision, to Krzysztof Jotko in October. At one time he was tipped to challenge for the title, but Cirkunov has some work to do in order to get back into championship consideration. Especially with five losses from his last seven bouts.

Murado saw his 14-fight win streak snapped by Gerald Meerschaert in August.

The striking phenom put together three straight victories in the UFC before that, having beaten Alessio Di Chirico, Trevor Smith, and Andrew Sanchez. This is a chance to get back on the horse against a guy that might not be as much of a threat to him as Meerschaert was.

Those betting on the UFC’s February fights might want to add a circle around this one.

Ion Cutelaba vs. Ryan Spann

If mayhem is what you’re looking for, Moldova’s Cutelaba is always good value for the cause.

The light heavyweight is looking to better his win to loss ratio, having put together a run of 5-5-1 in the UFC. A win over Devin Clark in his last outing went some way toward healing the pain of back-to-back losses against Magomed Ankalaev, but this win would be a huge step in the right direction.

Fans betting on the top UFC fights in February 2022 will be looking at Spann’s record for potential inspiration.

The American is 5-2 in the UFC with his two recent performances ending with a knockout of Misha Cirkunov and a submission loss to Anthony Smith. The Tennessee native will like his chances here, given Cutelaba’s propensity for chaos.
