Top DFS Picks for the 2021 Arnold Palmer Invitational

| March 2, 2021 11:21 am PDT

As you comb through the pricing searching for the best Arnold Palmer Invitational DFS picks, don’t be afraid to go heavy on Europeans and Internationals. In other words, fading the Americans seems to have plenty of merit.

Not only are each of the five previous API winners from outside of the United States; no American finished inside the top 3 here in 2020. None cracked the top 5 in 2019. Just a little something to chew on as you sift through the player pool.

Now for my top Arnold Palmer Invitational picks.

Matthew Fitzpatrick – $9,800

The runner-up here in 2019 tallied a T9 in 2020 on the heels of shooting the only sub-70 round on Sunday. Good vibes at this venue are one reason to anchor your lineup around Fitzpatrick – his recent play is another.

Matthew won the DP World Tour Championship and finished 17th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic before making the trek across the pond. Since arriving in the States, the lights-out putter has registered a T5 at Riviera and a T11 at The Concession.

Louis Oosthuizen – $8,800

Talk about an International golfer trending in the right direction, Louis Oosthuizen is set to make his fourth start in 2021.

Louis Oosthuizen in 2021 – By the Numbers
Date Tournament Scores Result
1/31/21 Farmers Insurance Open 72-72-70-71 (-4) T29
2/7/21 Waste Management Phoenix Open 69-67-63-71 (-14) T11
2/28/21 WGC-Workday Championship at The Concession 69-68-70-69 (-12) T6

Not only has the South African sweet swinger improved his result each time out; he’s shot par or better in all 12 rounds (under par in 11). Riding a hot putter (3rd in SG: Putting this season), Oosthuizen is angling toward picking up his first PGA Tour victory since winning the Open Championship in 2010.

Francesco Molinari – $8,700

Francesco Molinari might be one of the more popular DFS picks for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, but don’t let that sway you away. Armed with four top-15s in his last six starts, including top-10s in three of his last four, Molinari’s current form can’t be denied.

You want to know what else can’t be refuted?

The fact that Francesco is a horse for this course. In seven trips to Arnie’s Place, Molinari has a victory, four top-10s, and zero missed cuts.

Marc Leishman – $8,200

Let’s target another non-American with a lucrative history at this venue. Marc Leishman draped the red cardigan sweater here in 2017, part of his sparkling record at Bay Hill Golf Course.

Marc Leishman finished 3rd at the 2011 API, and check out where he’s landed in the last five editions.

Marc Leishman – By the Numbers at Bay Hill Club and Lodge
Year Finish
2016 17th
2017 1st
2018 7th
2019 23rd
2020 2nd

Now that Marc’s affinity for this golf course is placed front and center, remember that he’s 5-5 in 2021. The bigger the gusts, the more I like Leishman’s chances.

Brendon Todd – $7,300

Lurking at just $7,300 on DraftKings, lock Brendon Todd in as one of your Arnold Palmer Invitational DFS picks and throw away the key. 18th last year at Bay Hill gives you some solace, and 18th last week at the Concession alludes to his current form.

As for any concerns regarding the rhythm of his big stick, have faith knowing Brendon hit 50/56 fairways last week and shot eight-under-par over the weekend. As for the status of his flat stick, Todd gained more than 4.5 strokes on the greens.

Andrew Putnam – $7,100

Five straight made cuts include a T7 in Phoenix and a T5 in Puerto Rico. Those who think the stage at Bay Hill may be too bright, know that Putnam was grouped alongside Rory McIlroy and Bryson DeChambeau during the first two rounds at Riviera.

Andrew proceeded to shoot even par (71-71) while Bryson and Rory shot +2 (75-69) and +7 (73-76), respectively. If the conditions worsen as the week progresses like the forecast suggests, salvaging pars becomes crucial. That’s where Putnam’s elite short game comes in handy.
