Top 8 Boxing Matches to Bet on in October 2021
I’ve put together a list of the best boxing matches you can bet on in October 2021, so you don’t have to.
There are a bunch of fights for bettors to bet on this month. It should surprise absolutely no one that the Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3 fight is the bout most of the boxing community is looking forward to.
Still, to focus only on that bout in Las Vegas when there are other top boxing fights to bet on this October would be a gross oversight. And we don’t like those, right?
Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson, and Dillian Whyte are all in action this month. A few other big names are fighting, too, so keep reading to see what’s in store for you.
Before we start, however, it’s worth pointing out that we recommend the following betting sites for betting on boxing matches this October.
Let’s get to it.
Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Anatoli Muratov
- Date: October 2, 2021
- Venue: SSE Arena, London
- Division: Middleweight
- Titles: N/A
Fight fans looking to bet on boxing in October 2021 can start with the Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Anatoli Muratov bout on the first Saturday of the month.
Eubank takes on late replacement Anatoli Muratov at the SSE Arena on October 2. Initially slated to fight Sven Elbir of Germany, “Next Gen” was forced to accept the late stand-in when Elbir tested positive for the coronavirus.
Fans looking over the odds for October’s boxing matches won’t see a lot to get them excited where the moneyline is concerned. The Brit is a huge favorite to dispatch his opponent with Bovada as he builds towards a potential WBA middleweight title scrap, and the odds are silly.
Muratov is ranked 7th on the WBA’s 160-pound list, with a record of 25-2. However, he has never fought at this level before having spent his career mostly competing on the German regional circuit.
His last loss came back in 2014, with his most recent fight culminating in a knockout over Gyorgy Varju in Hamburg on September 18. That has not given the Kazakh much time to prepare for the fight.
Here’s what the undercard for Eubank vs. Muratov looks like.
|Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Anatoli Muratov Undercard|
|David Avanesyan vs. Liam Taylor||Welterweight|
|Jamal Le Doux vs. Germaine Brown||Super Middleweight|
|Richard Riakporhe vs. Krzysztof Twardowski||Cruiserweight|
|Mikael Lawal vs. Steven Ward||Cruiserweight|
|Linus Udofia vs. Xhuljo Vrenozi||Middleweight|
|Joe Pigford vs. Isaac Aryee||Junior Middleweight|
|Ebonie Jones vs. Bec Connolly||Women’s Bantamweight|
|Matty Harris vs. TBA||Heavyweight|
Eubank is looking for his fifth consecutive win, following a straightforward win against the overmatched Marcus Morrison in May. While Muratov is not considered to be among the world’s finest middleweights, he is certainly a step up from the Manc.
Although this is a mismatch on paper, there are some great prop bets for Eubank vs. Muratov doing the rounds. The variety of wagers available makes this one of the best fights you can bet on this October 2021.
Tyson Fury vs. Deontay Wilder 3
- Date: October 9, 2021
- Venue: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas
- Division: Heavyweight
- Titles: WBC
The big one.
I know, I know. To put Fury vs. Wilder among the best fights to wager on in October 2021 is pretty obvious. But what do I do? Leave it out?
All jokes aside, I can’t wait for this clash. Although Fury absolutely wiped the floor with the “Bronze Bomber” in their rematch, Wilder’s right hand is always a threat.
That, of course, makes betting on October’s boxing trilogy between Fury vs. Wilder 3 so intriguing.
The pair head back to Las Vegas on October 9 with Wilder on a revenge mission. The American used pretty much every excuse known to man following the stoppage loss at the MGM Garden Arena in 2020, which lost him a lot of respect among the wider boxing fanbase.
Of course, Fury mocked his rival for each and every one of them.
The bout was not supposed to happen at all, with Fury set to take on Anthony Joshua for an all-British undisputed title scrap. But Joshua’s schooling at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk means that fight is pretty much dead in the water.
Thankfully, this one is something to look forward to.
As my early analysis with odds for Fury vs. Wilder 3 shows, this one was initially set to go down in July before being pushed back to Oct. 9. But who’s complaining now?
We’re expecting the Fury vs. Wilder ring walk around 10/11pm EST which is 3/4am in GMT. So, it will be another all-nighter/early rise for fans across the pond.
This is easily one of the best boxing matches to bet on in October. Like many of the fights on this list, there will be plenty of odds and markets which equates to a lot of gambling opportunities for the fight.
I’ll be providing a full breakdown with odds and predictions for Fury vs. Wilder 3 closer to the fight. Stick with me to find out more about getting your hands on those, as well as recommended bets for all fights on this page, a little later.
Liam Smith vs. Anthony Fowler
- Date: October 9, 2021
- Venue: M&S Bank Arena, Liverpool
- Division: Junior Middleweight
- Titles: N/A
Fans betting on boxing this October shouldn’t overlook an all-Liverpool scrap before the Fury-Wilder 3 fight.
Liam Smith vs. Anthony Fowler will go down in front of a packed house at the M&S Bank Arena on October 9. It’s going to be one hell of a scrap and could be up there as one of the best British fights of the year.
You might remember Smith as a former WBO super welterweight champion. The older brother of Callum Smith and younger of Paul, “Beefy” has three losses in his career with one coming to Canelo Alvarez.
In May, the Kirkdale-native was beaten by Magomed Kurbanov in Russia in controversial circumstances. But back on home soil, the betting favorite will be hoping for a sweeter result.
It takes a 15-minute drive from the north to the south of Liverpool to find Toxteth’s Fowler.
A former amateur standout, Fowler won gold at the 2014 Commonwealth Games and also appeared at the 2016 Olympics in Rio. A win over Smith would be a huge result for the 30-year-old, who is 15-1 as a professional.
There is real beef between this pair. No pun intended. It’s clear that the bragging rights are important to both, but Smith clearly feels the pressure is on.
One of the best fights to bet on in October, Smith vs. Fowler should be a cracker.
Smith has never lost a domestic professional bout, while Fowler’s sole defeat in the paid ranks came against fellow 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medalist Scott Fitzgerald in 2019.
Don’t miss this one.
Emanuel Navarrete vs. Joet Gonzalez
- Date: October 15, 2021
- Venue: Pechanga Arena, San Diego
- Division: Featherweight
- Titles: WBO
WBO featherweight champion Emanuel Navarrete steps in against mandatory Joet Gonzalez on October 15.
This is Navarrete’s second fight of the year having put away Christopher Diaz in April. He improved his record to 34-1 on the night and has shown no signs of slowing down at 126 pounds.
The Mexican makes the second defense of his WBO title on the night and will be looking to show the American what he is about. One of the top boxing matches you can bet on in October; the odds for Navarette-Gonzalez are available on the best boxing betting apps.
Gonzale comes into this one with a record of 24-1, with the only loss of his career to date coming against the superb Shakur Stevenson in October 2019. He bounced back with a win over Miguel Marriaga and is looking forward to another crack at a world title.
It’s not the ideal defense for Navarrete, but I do think this could end up a really interesting clash between his long-distance, improvisational offense and Gonzalez’s close-quarters bruising.
At middleweight, Javier “Milwaukee Made” Martinez appears in a six-round contest, with the undefeated 2016 Mexican Olympian Lindolfo Delgado also set to feature.
The top pick of the undercard is, of course, the junior lightweight scrap between Henry “Moncho” Lebron and Manuel Rey Rojas.
What a night this should be for fight fans.
Teofimo Lopez vs. George Kambosos Jr.
- Date: October 16, 2021
- Venue: Barclays Center, New York
- Division: Lightweight
- Titles: WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring
Teofimo Lopez is looking to make his first appearance since a shock win over Vasyl Lomachenko on October 16.
The unified lightweight king is set to face George Kambosos Jr. in what should be one of the best fights to bet on in October. The only problem is, well, that things are turning into something of a pasquinade at the expense of boxing fans.
The fight, which is set to be promoted by Triller, has been canceled/postponed several times. We’re hoping that the bout does go ahead as planned on October 16, but the farcical nature of events could even see it scrapped for good.
George Kambosos’s legal counsel has sent a letter to the IBF (obtained by ESPN) requesting the organization find Triller in default of the purse bid for breach of contract for failing to deliver the bout with Teofimo Lopez on Oct. 4 at Hulu Theater at MSG. Story coming to ESPN— Mike Coppinger (@MikeCoppinger) September 28, 2021
Kambosos, unhappy with the latest attempt to reschedule the bout, is reportedly filing a legal motion for breach of contract.
At first, the showdown was scrapped when Lopez was diagnosed with COVID just one week before they were set to meet in Miami on June 19.
The fight was then pushed back to October 5 at the Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden, before being brought forward one day to October 4.
The reason given was to avoid clashing with a potential New York Yankees playoff match.
The latest attempt to reschedule the bout by Triller boss Ryan Kavanaugh has led to a dispute between Kambosos and Triller. Although October 16 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn is slated to avoid competition with Monday Night Football, it’s not clear yet if it will definitely happen.
But let’s be optimistic here. Kambosos has the opportunity of a lifetime in this fight and will more than likely be keen to make the fight happen.
To see one of October’s best fights to bet on scrapped would be a kick in the gut for us all. With that said, there are more fights to look forward to other than this one.
Mikey Garcia vs. Sandor Martin
- Date: October 16, 2021
- Venue: Chukchansi Park, California
- Division: Welterweight
- Titles: N/A
I’m excited to see Mikey Garcia back in the ropes.
The four-weight world champion last fought in February 2020, beating Jessie Vargas by unanimous decision. A fight with Manny Pacquiao was rumored to be on the cards, but his retirement in September has killed that.
Onwards and upwards for Garcia, who will take on 38-2 European super-lightweight champion Sandor Martin on October 16.
Here’s how they match up.
|Mikey Garcia||Tale of the Tape||Sandor Martin|
Martin fights for the first time outside of Europe, making his US debut against one of the best fighters of the last decade. It’s one heck of a jump for the Spanish national and would be a huge surprise if he can pull off the win.
I’ve added Garcia vs. Sandor to my list of the best boxing matches to bet on this month. It’s clearly one to circle in October 2021’s boxing calendar and should be entertaining.
It might not be Pacquiao-Garcia, but it’s one well worth tuning in for.
Although Pacquiao’s retirement was inevitable, it’s still sad to see the all-time great hang up his gloves. You can read more about why “Pac-Man” retires as one of the best, below.
Elwin Soto vs. Jonathan Gonzalez
- Date: October 16, 2021
- Venue: Chukchansi Park, California
- Division: Junior Flyweight
- Titles: WBO
A classic Mexican-Puerto Rican showdown awaits us on the Garcia-Sandor card on October 16 in California.
Another of the best fights in boxing to bet on this October, fans are really looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
Soto makes defense number four of his WBO junior flyweight strap on the night. The Mexican beat Angel Acosta in June 2019. He was down on the cards before pulling off a super-late stoppage.
Returning to the ring for the first time since stopping Japan’s Katsunari Takayama, “La Pulga” will be hoping to put the Bronx-born Puerto Rican away in style.
Soto is still co-promoted by Zanfer Promotions, which is based out of Mexico. His promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions ran out before signing on with Matchroom earlier this year.
The challenger, who earned a stoppage win over Armando Torres on May 21, will have other ideas.
It might not rival betting on a boxing match between Trump and Biden, but this one could get interesting.
Oscar Rivas vs. Bryant Jennings
- Date: October 22, 2021
- Venue: Montreal (TBC)
- Division: Bridgerweight
- Titles: WBC (Inaugural)
One of the best fights to bet on in October 2021 also happens to be history in the making.
For the very first time, the WBC will award a title under its new bridgerweight division. Controversial as it may be, it will be interesting to see if this weight class takes off.
Fighters will compete between 200 and 224 pounds, which effectively “bridges” the gap between cruiserweight and heavyweight. Rivas is the number one contender in the division with Jennings coming in at #3.
Russia’s Evgeny Romanov is ranked at #2, and will likely slot into the first place following the inaugural title fight. That is if he wants it.
Rumors about the weight class being created for Deontay Wilder following his loss to Tyson Fury last year were shot down by the former WBC heavyweight champion when he appeared on Brian Custer’s The Last Stand Podcast in November 2020.
Although the division acts as a bridge between cruiserweight and heavyweight, the name for the new weight class is a homage to Bridger Walker, who, at just six years old, saved his younger sister from an attacking dog. The youngster’s bravery, which led to serious injury, was lauded around the world.
Rivas and Jennings will lock horns for the title with several potential cruisers and heavyweights said to be considering fights at the 224-pound limit.
The fight makes October’s top boxing bets list for many reasons with the most important being that it’s a curious event to wager on.
More Top Fights to Bet on in October 2021
There’s no doubt that finding the odds for October’s best boxing matches will be of interest.
But before I leave you to it, don’t forget that more huge fights are coming up over the next few weeks. For example, Jamel Herring vs. Shakur Stevenson goes down on October 23, 2021, at the State Farm Arena, Georgia.
The WBO junior lightweight title is on the line making it a big one. Aside from that, it’s always a pleasure to watch Stevenson do his thing.
Dillian Whyte vs. Otto Wallin fight for the mandatory slot for the winner of Tyson Fury-Deontay Wilder on October 30, 2021. What a fight that should be.
