Thursday Night Football DFS Picks for NFL Week 14, 2020 – Lineup Advice for Patriots vs. Rams

NFL DFS Showdown Picks for TNF Week 14 - Patriots vs. Rams

NFL DFS basically every single day of the week? Sign me up.

It sure feels that way, as daily fantasy football contests have literally been available to us in four of the past five days now.

Thursday Night Football is that fourth day. I know it’s unfortunate due to COVID-19, but perhaps the league could see a silver lining here and adjust the schedule, so we get more football, ya know, more often.

Give the people want they want, Roger.

At any rate, week 14 is here, and fans get a potentially gritty battle between the New England Patriots and Los Angeles Rams. You can take a look at my week 14 NFL parlay picks to get a good idea of what I think about this game, but there’s also money to be had in NFL DFS Showdown contests.

Whether you’re maxing a contest or just want one unique lineup, join me as I break down my favorite NFL DFS Showdown picks for TNF week 14.

Top Showdown Picks for TNF

  • Cam Newton, QB, Patriots ($10.6k)
  • Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams ($9.6k)
  • Robert Woods, WR, Rams ($9.2k)
  • Damien Harris, RB, Patriots ($8.8k)
  • Darrell Henderson Jr., RB, Rams ($7.4k)

It feels like I’m just listing everyone, but I’m leaving out Jared Goff. So, there!

Goff could obviously make me look silly and pop off here, but I am a believer in the New England defense these days. They’ve made Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert look pretty bad the last two weeks, and I think Goff has his work cut out for him here.

The top Rams running back is in play, and that may be Henderson with Cam Akers banged up.

Even if Goff struggles, he could still get the ball out to his receivers enough. I doubt I’d stack them together, so pick your poison or just use them in a variety of NFL DFS Showdown lineups.

Cam Newton is the second priciest option on this slate, and it feels like he’s the top guy. His passing numbers are brutal, but his rushing and scoring on the ground make him a great option.

Damien Harris needs to score to pan out, but he sees most of the early-down work for New England. Considering this is the third-best rush offense in football, he has value. You just better hope he scores if you Captain him.

These are the main guys I’d be prioritizing, and more often than not, they’re my Captains. If you want to cram most of these guys into your NFL DFS Showdown lineups, then I’m all for getting creative with some type of punt play.

Best TNF Showdown Sleepers

  • Sony Michel, RB, Patriots ($4.8k)
  • Patriots Defense ($4.2k)
  • Gerald Everett, TE, Rams ($3.4k)
  • Van Jefferson, WR, Rams ($2.6k)
  • Malcolm Brown, RB, Rams ($2.4k)
  • Gunner Olszewski, WR, Patriots ($1k)

It is certainly worth wondering how long Damien Harris’ gig as the top Patriots back is safe. Michel logged 10 carries last week and could easily be warming up for a bigger workload.

If you think New England dominates on the ground in this one (and I do), he could be in play.

The Rams and Patriots could both be problematic defensively, but I’ll just list New England here. The way Bill Belichick can game-plan people is scary, and he’s shut Sean McVay’s offense down before.

You can save cash elsewhere, as Everett was pretty active last week, Van Jefferson jumped past Josh Reynolds in terms of snap count, and Brown could always be busy in the event Akers is, in fact, out.

There’s even Gunner Olszewski, who was a bit of a hero with two scores last week.

My Favorite Week 14 TNF Lineup

  • Captain: Cam Newton, QB, Patriots ($15.9k)
  • FLEX: New England Patriots Defense ($4.2k)
  • FLEX: Cooper Kupp, WR, Rams ($9.6k)
  • FLEX: Jared Goff, QB, Rams ($11k)
  • FLEX: Sony Michel, RB, Patriots ($4.8k)
  • FLEX: Nick Folk, K, Patriots ($4k)

I don’t see any way around putting Cam Newton in the Captain slot.

Unless you think the Rams just abuse the Pats here, I think he scores a couple of times and does enough damage to be the top scorer.

Honestly, I don’t know if I’m in the minority here, but I think the Pats control what will ultimately be a pretty ugly and low-scoring affair.

I’ll stack Goff and Kupp as a chalky duo that racks up numbers playing from behind, but otherwise, this is all about New England balling out as they hunt down the final playoff spot in the AFC.

Sony Michel and Nick Folk are lower-owned options that should benefit from the way this game plays out, while the Pats defense shouldn’t have egregious ownership, either.

The fact that I am fading Robert Woods, Damien Harris, and the Rams running backs might be enough to differentiate this lineup. Of course, doing so has to be the right call.

If you hit my link to my week 14 NFL parlay, you know I like the Patriots to win this game. Maybe that’s saying something, and maybe it’s not.

Both of these teams are well-coached, want to run the ball, and can defend at a high level. Is this the spot where the Pats get exposed, and their playoff run comes to an end, or is it just the beginning?

I’d certainly have a lot of different NFL DFS Showdown lineups – particularly some hedge stacks featuring the Rams a bit more – but I like New England here.
