Tampa Bay Downs Picks for Wednesday, May 20, 2020 – Free Horse Racing Betting Tips

Tampa Bay Downs brings us an afternoon of nine dirt/turf races for Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

The forecast for Tampa Bay calls for sunny skies with a slight (10%) chance of rain, highs in the low 80s, and winds around 12 mph.

I cover the three richest races at Tampa Bay Downs here, but you can find their entire list of races, as well as entries, odds, and wager options at our recommended horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race at Tampa Bay Downs on Wednesday is 1 PM (EDT). Now, it’s time to look at some predictions and tips.

  • Post Time: 2:00 PM
  • Purse: $11,500
  • Distance: 1 mile (turf)
  • Conditions: For Maidens, Three Years Old And Upward. If deemed inadvisable by management to run this race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at One Mile and Forty Yards

Race 3 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Fifth of November, T B Mejia, 15/1
  • 2 Sorcier, SCRATCHED
  • 3 Cask, A Suarez, 2/1
  • 4 Reachnforasixpack, R D Allen, Jr., 20/1
  • 5 Hellfire Bob, A A Marin, 5/1
  • 6 Analyzeyourvision, W A Garcia, 5/2
  • 7 Gimmeabreak, M Almeida, 10/1
  • 8 Hex, J A Batista, 6/1
  • 9 Proud Deplorable, R Mena, 20/1
  • 10 Fernando, J R Herrera, 30/1

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

Like any maiden race, this one is wide open. Sure, workout results and the jockeys can have an effect on the outcome, but just how much? In this case, I’m sticking with the 2/1 favorite, Cask, with Angel Suarez aboard, and I’m basing that purely on Suarez’s ability to get maximum performance out of this three-year-old.

Race 3 Tip

As is often the case with maiden races, pick your favorite longshot by name, color, or hair style. Or keep your longshot money in your pocket, which would be my recommendation.

  • Cask

  • Post Time: 3:30 PM
  • Purse: $16,000
  • Type: CLAIMING
  • Distance: 1-1/16 miles (turf)
  • Conditions: For Four Year Olds And Upward

Race 6 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Rough Night, SCRATCHED
  • 2 Rudiger, R D Allen, Jr., 12/1
  • 3 New Jersey John, A Santos, 20/1
  • 4 Wicked Boy, H Hernandez, 8/1
  • 5 Perp, A Suarez, 30/1
  • 6 D’craziness, A A Gallardo, 6/1
  • 7 Last Promise, O Hernandez, 5/2
  • 8 No Cents Left, D Centeno, 6/1
  • 9 My Cowboy, S Spieth, 4/1
  • 10 Blue Pigeon, W A Garcia, 10/1
  • 11 Big Money Machine, T B Mejia, 10/1

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

The 5/2 favorite in this race, Last Promise, might have to win this race on his own. Jockey Olaf Hernandez is certainly a pro, but his wins/WPS stats are a bit lackluster. His mount’s record, on the other hand, is impressive: 16 career starts, 12 money finishes—and seven of those wins.

Race 6 Tip

Not a longshot, but keep an eye on the 6/1 D’craziness, ridden by Antonio Gallardo. This seven-year-old has 25 career starts, 11 money finishes, with seven of them wins. Think of it this way, statistics-wise: For every horse Hernandez rides across the finish line first, Gallardo will ride two.

  • Last Promise

  • Post Time: 4:30 PM
  • Purse: $20,000
  • Distance: 6 furlongs
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds Which Have Never Won A Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Or Starter Or Which Have Never Won Two Races Or Optional Claiming Price Of $75,000

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Silverly Enough, S Spieth, 7/2
  • 2 Tomato Bill, A A Gallardo, 3/1
  • 3 Justcuzifeellikeit, W Alencar, 30/1
  • 4 Disco Deano, A Santos, 15/1
  • 5 Baby Boomer, G Wales, 10/1
  • 6 Zaino Boyz, D Centeno, 2/1
  • 7 Indy Ride, R D Allen, Jr., 12/1
  • 8 Sky Mischief, H Hernandez, 5/1
  • 9 Baby Brother, W A Garcia, 20/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

I’m sticking with the 2/1 favorite in this race: Zaino Boyz, with Daniel Centeno aboard. Zaino Boyz has eight career starts with three money finishes—all of them wins.

Race 8 Tip

I don’t see a longshot here that has a chance of beating out the top three favorites, but if one does indeed exist, it’s probably the 30/1 Justcuzifeellikeit, ridden by up-and-coming jockey Walbar Alencar. A record of five career starts and zero money finishes certainly isn’t encouraging, but Alencar might make the difference.

  • Zaino Boyz
