Taipei Tatung vs. Red Lions Taiwan Premier League

This is definitely looking like the most one-sided game in Taiwan this weekend. The current champions may not be as strong as in previous years, but few will expect Red Lions to get anything out of this one.

With relegation a very real possibility this year, it is finishing bottom of the league that will be worrying Red Lions more than the outcome of this one game. There is a new manager — and some new players — but will there be a different end result?

Find out my thoughts on this match in my Taipei Tatung vs. Red Lions betting preview.

Online bookmaker BetOnline is not taking any chances here. Tatung is the big favorite, and it is very difficult to argue with that. This is the three-times Taiwan Premier League winners against a side that only won one game last season and conceded 58 goals in the process. This could be a high-scoring game.

Taipei Tatung vs. Red Lions Match Preview

This season is going to be a real test for Tatung. Losing Marc Fenelus and Chen Wei-chuan to Taiwan Steel was a bitter blow. The league’s top goal scorer last year and one of the best defenders in Taiwan both departing the club is going to have a massive effect. If anything, their exit should make the league more competitive, but that is not what Tatung want to hear.

The opening-day defeat to Taipower showed that things might be changing, even if the visitors needed a last-minute goal to take the points. But this week will be far more straightforward for the champions. It will be the shock of the season if anything but a big home win is the outcome here.

That’s because Red Lions is a poor team. There have been some movements in the offseason to rectify that, but it will take time, at the very least. New manager Francisco Arce has brought in some lower-league Chilean players, but they weren’t available for the 4-0 loss to Hang Yuen.

In all honesty, that scoreline only flatters Red Lions, who could have been on the end of an even bigger hiding. The team was second-best to everything all day, and it was Hang Yuen’s wastefulness in front of goal that kept the score even halfway respectable. This could be a very long day for the Red Lions defense.

Prediction and Betting Pick

  • Taipei Tatung to Win

Other betting options aside from the straight moneyline bet should really be investigated when it comes to this game. Tatung is weakened after a number of departures, but there are still some very good players at the club, and those players could really go to town against Red Lions. This has home win written all over it.
