Taipei Tatung vs. NTUS Betting Preview – Taiwan Premier League, May 3

This looks like being an early-season make or break game for Tatung as the reigning champions look to keep up with the other big clubs at the top of the Taiwan Premier League table.

It always seemed as though Tatung would struggle after losing its best players before the season began, but results have not been good, and a big morale-boosting win against NTUS would keep the titleholders in the hunt as well as ease some nerves.

MyBookie is pricing this game how just about everyone would expect given the level of talent in the two squads. But NTUS has not been blown away by anyone yet this season, so there may be more to the student side than originally thought.

Tatung finds itself in almost unheard of fifth place in the Taiwan Premier League after three games, and it is only partly down to the loss of key players in the offseason. There is even the possibility of NTUS leapfrogging the reigning champions if the result goes the way of the students. That should not happen, but it just shows how serious a predicament Tatung finds itself in right now.

It was always going to be a struggle to retain the title this year, and the truth is that there are two or three other clubs that have recruited well to challenge Tatung’s dominance. The draw with Taichung last weekend is a perfect example of how that team has strengthened while Tatung has stood still.

But even with the loss of strikers, Tatung still has the top goalscorer in the league so far this season in Ivorian Angel Samuel Kouame. He has scored in every game so far and will be odds on to find the net here.

NTUS will look to repeat the kind of performances it has been managing this season. There may only be one point on the board, but the losses to Taichung and Hang Yuen were by one and two goals, respectively. If the defense can get their job done, then Tatung might start to panic a little.

Even if NTUS plays to its absolute best, it would be a massive surprise if Tatung doesn’t go on to win this game. There is just too much talent in the squad to fall to a team of students that usually struggle to keep up with anyone outside the bottom three. A stronger NTUS defense might be able to keep out more Tatung chances, but this will be a home win.
