Smolevichi vs. Gorodeya Betting Preview – Belarusian Premier League, June 5
Ten games into only its second-ever season in the Belarusian top flight, and Smolevichi is still looking to pick up its first three points. Only fellow promoted club Belshina has performed worse this year.
This Friday might see the best chance in a while to break that duck, however. Gorodeya has been free-falling for the last few weeks and comes to town on the back of a six-game winless streak. You can find my full Smolevichi vs. Gorodeya prediction and betting pick here.
Smolevichi vs. Gorodeya Odds
MyBookie has taken Gorodeya’s shocking recent form into account and has made Smolevichi the favorite for a game for possibly the first time this season. Whereas the home side obviously hasn’t won a single fixture as yet, Gorodeya has only been able to draw a few recently as well, so this game looks well priced.
After having the game against FC Minsk postponed the week before, it was something of a surprise for Smolevichi to take the lead against high-flying Torpedo Bel-AZ Zhodino last weekend. The minnows ultimately couldn’t hang onto the lead — or the points — but the performance should be taken as a positive.
If head coach Aleksandr Brazevich can keep the belief shown in the first half of that game going for the rest of the campaign he might even be able to start dreaming of staying up. There is a huge points gap at the moment, however, and games like this one just simply have to be won.
But if there is one team in the Belarusian Premier League at the moment that looks like it is going to be beaten every week (outside the bottom two), it is Gorodeya. There have been a few drawn games recently, but the three consecutive wins at the beginning of the season seem a very long time ago now.
Last week, fellow strugglers Neman Grodno was able to put two unanswered goals past Gorodeya away from home, and there is a distinct feeling of doom around this week’s visiting team as it drops further and further down the table.
Prediction and Pick
Smolevichi to Win+154
MyBookie has made Smolevichi favorite to achieve a first win of the season, and I think that it has got it just about right this week. It is more down to the way Gorodeya is playing at the moment, as to anything Smolevichi is doing right, but I feel that the relegation battle will heat up somewhat on Friday.
