Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE Boriso Belarusian Cup Semifinal

The league may have only just started, but the Belarusian Cup is already down to the last four. The semifinal ties are played over two legs, with the return fixture scheduled for the end of the month.

Although BATE Borisov has dominated the league in recent years, the cup has tended to be a more open competition. After losing in last year’s final, BATE travels to play Slavia Mozyr in its semifinal first leg game.

I’ve broken down the odds and provided my pick in this Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE Borisov betting preview.

Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE Borisov Odds

Slavia Mozyr to Win+293
The Draw+252
BATE Borisov to Win-107

BetOnline has gone with BATE as favorites to win this first leg tie, but that doesn’t seem to take into account what has happened in the early stages of the new season. BATE may be the most successful club in the country, but it has struggled in its first few games, and Slavia Mozyr has already won a fixture between these two.

The price for a draw or a home win looks more inviting here.

Match Preview

When these two sides met on the second matchday of the new season, Slavia Mozyr even gave BATE the chance to score first and still won the game thanks to two goals from Nikita Melnikov. That may have been a surprise result at the time, but it is a sign of how the league has gone in its opening weeks.

Slavia may have advanced to this stage thanks to Dnyapro Mogilev disbanding before they had a chance to play their quarterfinal, but a lot has changed since that tie scheduled for the start of March. The reigning champion Dynamo Brest was beaten away from home at the weekend, and head coach Mikhail Martinovich will be confident of a positive result in this first leg game.

For BATE Borisov, this is a real opportunity to kick-start a season that has failed to get going so far. The most decorated club in Belarus had already lost to Energetik-BGU when Slavia produced that shock result on matchday two, so a more positive outcome in the cup will be gratefully received.

BATE has already overcome Dinamo Minsk in the last round so has proven that there is still fight in the team. A narrow win over newly promoted Rukh Brest at the weekend has hardly inspired a lot of confidence in the side doing well in the league this season, but a good win here might be able to turn things around.

Slavia Mozyr vs. BATE Borisov Pick

  • The Draw

With the game priced as it is by BetOnline, the value bets look to be either a draw or a home win. BATE just hasn’t started the new season very well, and Slavia Mozyr might be able to continue the misery here. As there is a second leg coming up in a few weeks, a draw might actually be a good result for BATE under the circumstances, so that looks like the best bet to make.
