Serie A Season Betting Guide for 2022-23 with Odds
Juventus reigned supreme over Italian soccer between 2011-12 and 2019-20, clinching nine straight scudetto. However, the landscape has changed over the past couple of years.
Inter Milan ended Juve’s hegemony in 2020-21 before AC Milan snatched the crown from their arch-rivals. With three different clubs winning the title in the past three seasons, the idea of betting on Serie A is exciting once again.
The new campaign is set to kick off on August 13. Accordingly, I decided to publish my 2022-23 Italian Serie A betting preview to prepare you for the season.

According to the Italy Serie A odds at BetOnline, the 2022-23 scudetto battle looks to be a two-horse race between Inter Milan (+175) and Juventus (+185).
Inter clinched the title in 2020-21 before finishing the second last season. Granted, Juve has registered back-to-back fourth-place finishes. But the Turin giant won nine consecutive titles during the 2010s.
As the reigning champion, AC Milan (+400) is seen as Inter and Juve’s main challenger. Having upset the Serie A odds last season, Stefano Pioli’s men will be confident defending their crown.
All the details you need to know about the 2022-23 Serie A season which starts on August 13 🇮🇹— SuperSport 🏆 (@SuperSportTV) June 25, 2022
As you can see, Napoli (+1400), Roma (+2000), and Atalanta (+2500) find themselves in the chasing pack. If BetOnline’s 2022-23 Italian Serie A odds are to be believed, Lazio (+5000) and Fiorentina (+6600) are the only other realistic contenders.
The remaining 12 teams are priced between +20000 and +250000. Could an outsider make a mockery of the Serie A odds? To answer that question, we need to look closely at the teams.
Analyzing the Serie A Betting Favorites for 2022-23
Unlike many other major European leagues, Serie A looks destined to produce another highly competitive campaign in 2022-23. Consequently, the Serie A title odds are notably attractive.
Paris Saint-Germain is priced at just -900 to win France’s Ligue 1, while you can get odds of around -500 for Bayern Munich to win the German Bundesliga. By contrast, the top three Serie A favorites are priced between +175 and +400.
In this section of my 2022-23 Italian Serie A betting preview, I take an in-depth look at the three frontrunners – Inter Milan, Juventus, and AC Milan.
- 2022-23 Serie A Odds: +175
- Last Season: 2nd
- Total Serie A Titles: 19
- Last Title: 2020-21
Having recorded three top-two finishes across the past three seasons, few would argue that Inter has not been Serie A’s most consistent team in recent years.
The Nerazzurri finished a solitary point behind Juventus in 2019-20 before clinching the 2020-21 title in style. Last season, they finished just two points shy of Milan. Can they return to the summit of Italian soccer in 2022-23?
Simone Inzaghi’s men suffered a single defeat across their first 22 games last term, cementing first place between December and February. Ultimately, a mid-season blip cost them the title. But they still managed to win eight of their final nine games.
Inter scored more goals than anyone else last season, netting 84 in 38 games (2.2 goals per game). Lautaro Martinez finished third on the Golden Boot leaderboard with 21 goals, while Edin Dzeko scored 13.
Plus, the return of Romelu Lukaku will only make the Nerazzurri stronger. Lukaku bagged 64 goals in 95 games for Inter before leaving for Chelsea. However, he is back in Milan after falling out of favor in England.
It is also worth noting that Inter has achieved the league’s best defensive record in two of the past three seasons. This tells us that Inter has the strongest backline in Serie A.
- 2022-23 Serie A Odds: +185
- Last Season: 4th
- Total Serie A Titles: 36
- Last Title: 2019-20
If you’re new to Serie A betting, you may wonder why Juventus is among the favorites to lift the trophy in 2022-23. I mean, Juve ended up outside the top three in each of the previous two seasons – finishing 16+ points behind the champion on both occasions.
But there is a reason why all the best sports betting sites expect Juve to challenge for the scudetto during the upcoming campaign. The table below explains everything.
|MOST SUCCESSFUL CLUBS IN SERIE A HISTORY|
Thanks to a run of nine successive title triumphs between 2012 and 2020, Juve is by far the most successful club in the history of Italian soccer. Not only have they won nine of the last 11 titles, but they have also won 14 of the previous 28.
The Bianconeri made a slow start to the previous campaign, winning just four of their first 11 outings. However, a mammoth 16-game unbeaten streak between November and March enabled them to snatch fourth place.
Between 2015 and 2019, Juventus won five straight titles under the guidance of Max Allegri. The legendary manager returned last year after a two-year spell away from the club. Write off Juve at your peril!
- 2022-23 Serie A Odds: +400
- Last Season: 1st
- Total Serie A Titles: 19
- Last Title: 2021-22
There was a time when Milan ruled Italian soccer. Indeed, the Rossoneri secured five titles in eight years between 1992 and 1999 before returning to the top in 2004 and 2011.
Milan flittered with the scudetto two seasons ago, claiming the runner-up spot in 2020-21. However, they finally went one better last term – ending their 11-year wait for glory.
Milan’s scudetto-winning campaign was defined by both a strong start and a strong end to the season. First, Pioli’s men won ten of their opening 11 games. They ended the campaign on a 16-game unbeaten streak a few months later.

Happy Birthday Mike Maignan 🥳 pic.twitter.com/Oz9z97JmDX
In addition to winning nine of their final 11 outings, the Rossoneri kept nine clean sheets during that period. Unsurprisingly, Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan finished atop the shutout charts with a clean sheet rate of 53.1%.
At the opposite end of the field, Rafael Leao (11 goals, 10 assists) and Olivier Giroud (11 goals, 4 assists) starred throughout the previous campaign. Boasting quality in every department, Milan is set for another successful season.
2022-23 Serie A Sleepers to Consider
It goes without saying that Inter, Juventus, and Milan will be the popular picks when bettors make their Italian Serie A 2022-23 prediction. Still, there is no shortage of betting value elsewhere.
If BetOnline’s Serie A odds are anything to go by, a handful of clubs in the chasing pack could push the frontrunners all the way. Therefore, we need to inspect the possible sleepers and outsiders before settling on a prediction for the Italian Serie A title.
Having registered eight top-three finishes in the past 12 seasons, Napoli is undoubtedly the biggest threat to the frontrunners. But can the Neapolitans finally end their 32-year scudetto drought?
Napoli finished second in 2012-13 before recording three runner-up finishes in four seasons between 2015-16 and 2018-19. In the previous campaign, Luciano Spalletti’s boys finished third – five points behind Inter and seven behind Milan.
As well as posting the joint-best defensive record last term, Napoli notched the third-best offensive record. If they can rediscover the kind of form that saw them win their first eight games in 2021-22, they will be a force to be reckoned with in 2022-23.
Under the guidance of iconic manager Jose Mourinho, Roma secured their first-ever European trophy last season. Granted, they won the UEFA Europa Conference League – the continent’s third-tier tournament. But it’s still a European trophy!
Mourinho’s men finished sixth in Serie A last term, despite the best efforts of Tammy Abraham (17 goals, 4 assists) and Lorenzo Pellegrini (9 goals, 5 assists). Personally, I can see them finishing higher in 2022-23.
Roma has finished as the runner-up on no fewer than nine occasions since winning the scudetto in 2000-01. Mourinho could be the man to help the capital club return to its glory days.
Lazio last won the Serie A title back in 1999-00. The club has failed to finish inside the top two since then, with only a handful of third-place finishes coming across the past two decades.
That said, the Eagles are in good hands with Maurizio Sarri at the helm. Let’s not forget that Sarri guided Chelsea to the 2018-19 UEFA Europa League title before leading Juventus to the 2019-20 scudetto.
On top of that, Lazio has Ciro Immobile – the man who has won three of the previous five Serie A Golden Boots. Immobile has netted a whopping 182 goals in 259 games for Lazio so that he could fire his team to glory in 2022-23.
My Italian Serie A Prediction for 2022-23
Betting on the Serie A title winner is not as straightforward as it used to be. Throughout the 2010s, you could back Juventus before the season kicked off, forget about the wager for nine months, and collect your winnings at the end of the campaign.
However, the resurgence of the two Milanese giants has changed everything. Thanks to the re-emergence of Inter and Milan as genuine scudetto contenders, the current-day Serie A betting value is far more appealing.
So, what is my prediction for the Italian Serie A title winner in 2022-23? After analyzing all the leading candidates and possible sleepers, I’m backing Inter to reclaim the crown.
Inter hasn’t finished outside the top two in three seasons. After securing the runner-up spot in 2020, the Nerazzurri claimed the 2021 title before finishing second in 2022. Talk about consistency!
I expect Milan to enjoy a solid title-defending campaign, while Juventus is bound to challenge for the top prize once again. But in my eyes, Inter is in the best possible position to clinch the scudetto.
That is my 2022-23 Italian Serie A prediction locked and loaded. If you enjoyed this post, why not check out my betting previews for some of Europe’s other major soccer leagues? The new seasons are right around the corner.
