Serie A Predictions and Betting Picks – June 24, 2020

Serie A Predictions June 24

There are three games for us to enjoy in Italy’s top tier on Wednesday. And with four of the current top five in action on June 24, we are certainly in for a treat!

Here are Wednesday’s Serie A fixtures in full.

  • Inter Milan vs. Sassuolo
  • Atalanta vs. Lazio
  • Roma vs. Sampdoria

Roma and Lazio are the only teams featuring on Wednesday that haven’t already played since the 2019/20 Serie A got back underway. Inter and Atalanta returned on Sunday with wins over Sampdoria and Sassuolo, respectively.

Keep reading to see my predictions for every matchup taking place on June 24. Also, if you’re after some Serie A betting tips, you’ve come to the right place. I share my top picks for Wednesday’s games at the end of this post.

Inter Milan to Beat Sassuolo

Inter looked razor-sharp in their first game back. Antonio Conte’s side raced into a two-goal lead thanks to goals from star forwards Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez, and despite conceding early in the second half, the Nerazzurri always looked like claiming all three points. Inter eventually won 2-1, but that scoreline definitely flatters Sampdoria.

The comeback win saw the Milan outfit maintain their six-point lead over fourth-place Atalanta. But perhaps more importantly, the gap between Inter and second-place Lazio has been shortened to five points. It’s going to be tough for Inter to chase down the top two, but a victory over Sassuolo on Wednesday will certainly help their cause.

Sassuolo returned to action with a 4-1 loss to Atalanta at the weekend. Of course, they are by no means the first team to have suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Gian Piero Gasperini’s free-scoring side this season. But the Neroverdi will be disappointed not to have offered more resistance.

Barring a dismal run of results, Sassuolo should be safe from relegation this season. However, a mid-table finish is the best the club can hope for this term. On the other hand, Inter has a lot more to play for, so a second win in four days is on the cards for the Nerazzurri.

Atalanta and Lazio to Draw

The matchup brings together the two highest scorers in Serie A this season. Lazio sits nine points ahead of fourth-place Atalanta, but the Bergamo club has scored a whopping 14 more goals than the current runner-up. It goes without saying that this should be a thriller!

A lot has changed during the three-month lay-off, but Atalanta’s ruthlessness clearly remains the same. Gasperini’s men resumed the campaign with a trademark high-scoring victory. A goal from Berat Djimsiti and a double from Duvan Zapata, along with an own goal from Mehdi Bourabia, ensured that Atalanta picked up where they left off before the season was put on hold.

If Lazio can pick up where they left off before the break, they stand a genuine chance of ending Juventus’ eight-year hegemony over Serie A. After losing two of their opening five league games this term, the capital club has since gone unbeaten in their previous 21 outings. A remarkable 11-game winning streak between October and January has put Lazio in a fantastic position, but the team can’t afford to rest on their laurels.

The Eagles have enjoyed an outstanding 2019/20 campaign up to now. But facing Atalanta in their first game for over three months won’t be easy, especially as Atalanta has already completed 90 minutes of competitive soccer since the restart. I can see this clash ending all square.

Roma to Beat Sampdoria

While some teams would have welcomed the unexpected lay-off, I don’t think Roma would have wanted the season to stop. Back-to-back four-goal victories over Lecce (4-0) and Cagliari (4-3) leading up to the break had reignited Roma’s top-four hopes, but the Giallorossi will now have to start all over again.

Paulo Fonseca’s side is still six points behind Atalanta, although the six-point gap between them and sixth-place Napoli suggests that Roma shouldn’t finish any lower than fifth the season. However, with games against Juventus, Inter, and Napoli remaining, the She-Wolf will need to take as many points as possible from their games against bottom-half opponents.

Fittingly, Sampdoria is a bottom-half club. In fact, the Genoa outfit is perched just above the relegation zone following their defeat to Inter on Sunday. If Sampdoria is to beat the drop, manager Claudio Ranieri — who guided Leicester to an unlikely EPL title in 2016 — will need to work his magic once again.

Roma has amassed 19 more points than Sampdoria this season, so the Giallorossi should return with a fairly comfortable win.

Serie A Picks for Wednesday, June 24

You’ve had my Serie A predictions for June 24. Now it’s time to get stuck into my top betting picks for Wednesday’s action in the Italian top flight.

Inter Milan vs. Sassuolo – Inter Milan to Win and Under 3.5 Goals (2.10)

I went with this exact bet in Inter’s previous game, and it proved to be an excellent decision. The odds for Inter to beat Sampdoria with under 3.5 goals were 2.00, but they are even higher on this occasion.

Conte’s men haven’t been blowing teams away this season, but they have been doing enough to take all three points from the majority of their opponents. The bookies have priced the home win at just 1.33, so it makes sense to add an over/under goals market into the mix to boost the odds. I like the look of under 3.5 goals again here.

Atalanta vs. Lazio – Both Teams to Score and Over 2.5 Goals (1.90)

In all honesty, I’ll be amazed if this game produces fewer than three goals. Both sides have been scoring for fun throughout the 2019/20 campaign, so I’m expecting another high-scoring matchup between the division’s leading scorers.

Given that Atalanta has conceded in seven of their previous eight league games, I’m confident that Lazio will get on the scoresheet on Wednesday. It’s difficult to predict which way this game will go, but there will almost certainly be plenty of goals.
