Evidence of this is that he’s scored more than 70 penalties since the start of his professional career while missing only a couple of them. In fact, in the 2010s, Lewandowski scored a total of 46 penalties, while missing just four.

Ranking Robert Lewandowski’s Best Goals of His Career

There are only 11 soccer players who have scored more than 600 goals in top-level competitions. Only three of those are still active, one of whom is Robert Lewandowski.
Not only has he scored dozens of goals for his club every season but he’s also been his country’s best marksman. Lewandowski is the record-holder for most goals for the Polish national team.
In an interview he gave for the FC Bayern Munich YouTube channel, Lewandowski spoke about not caring too much to make goals look beautiful. It’s the number that counts.
Nevertheless, with so many goals scored, it’s no surprise that some of them were real stunners. So, which ones are those?
Choosing from 600+ career goals, it’s not easy to pick out the best. Still, I’ve decided to try it. Keep on reading to see my picks for Robert Lewandowski’s best goals.
A Bicycle Kick in Icy Kyiv
- Year: 2021
- Competition: UEFA Champions League
- Playing for: Bayern Munich
- Playing against: Dynamo Kyiv
Tuesday, November 23, 2021, was the day when Bayern Munich locked horns with Dynamo Kyiv in the Champions League. It was a game to remember for many reasons.
For instance, it was the first time the two met in the capital of Ukraine since 2000. Secondly, a blizzard hit Kyiv that day, covering the pitch of NSC Olimpiyskiy Stadium in snow, for which an orange ball had to be used.
Still, all those things were overshadowed by Lewandowski’s goal in the 14th minute of the game. With Dynamo’s players failing to clear their lines, Bayern’s no.9 seized the opportunity to bicycle-kick the loose ball straight into the net.
It was one of Robert Lewandowski’s top goals ever, but it also helped him break an impressive record. Lewa became the first player in history to score at least a goal in nine straight UCL games across two seasons.
Lewandowski’s Incredible Lob in the 2014 German Cup
- Year: 2014
- Competition: German Cup
- Playing for: Bayern Munich
- Playing against: Borussia Monchengladbach
Here’s one of Robert Lewandowski’s goals that show that he’s much more than a “fox in the box.” Instead of being a classic no. 9 striker, Lewandowski excels in many other aspects of the game, including dribbling, positioning, and technique.
As you can see in the video, Lewandowski put himself into the path of the ball rebounded by the opposition goalie. His superb technique enabled him to get control of the fast-flying ball. Then, it was time to get rid of his guards.
Lewa’s dribbling made the rival defenders rush past him, leaving the ball behind. The icing on the cake was the delightful lob shot that resulted in a goal.
Masked Hero Fights Back Against Barça
- Year: 2015
- Competition: Champions League
- Playing for: Bayern Munich
- Playing against: Barcelona
After fracturing his jaw and nose in a cup game against Dortmund (in which he scored, by the way), Lewandowski was forced to sit out a couple of subsequent matches. Even though his injuries hadn’t completely healed, he decided to return for a UCL clash with Barcelona a few weeks later.
His team needed him, as back in Spring 2015, Barça had the strongest squad on the planet with Lionel Messi, Neymar, and Luis Suarez as the front three.
Lewa returned, but his team’s doctors made him wear a protective mask in that game. Even though he later admitted the mask annoyed him, that didn’t stop him from producing a wonder in the 59th minute of the match.
With Bayern 2-1 behind, Lewandowski received the ball on the edge of the penalty box, which he then curled in to hit the back of the net. It took him less than one second to complete the entire move, which explains why Barça’s goalkeeper Ter Stegen didn’t even attempt to save it.
Lewandowski’s goal set the score to 2-2. More importantly, it gave Bayern a massive confidence boost, leading to another goal 15 minutes later. Unfortunately for Lewa & Co., that wasn’t enough to get Bayern to the next stage.
Barca knocked the Germans out of the Champions League with 5-3 on aggregate, qualifying for the final where they defeated Juventus.
Lewandowski’s Free-Kick Goal in Der Klassiker
- Year: 2017
- Competition: Bundesliga
- Playing for: Bayern Munich
- Playing against: Borussia Dortmund
Der Klassiker is how Germans call the Bayern Munich vs. Borussia Dortmund fixture. It’s been played more than 130 times since 1965.
Even though many players have played more Der Klassikers than Lewandowski, he’s the man who’s scored the most goals. In the 2021-22 season, he scored his 30th goal in Der Klassiker, which is twice as many as legendary Gerd Muller who’s just behind.
It’s no surprise that Lewandowski’s scored so many times. After all, he’s played for both clubs. Still, his goals as a Bayern player seem to be more memorable than those scored during his Dortmund days. One goal that stands out is the one scored in the 2016-17 Bundesliga season.
Lewandowski scored a perfect free kick in the 10th minute of the game, making it 2-1 Bayern. His job didn’t end there – the former Dortmund striker scored again against his old club.
It happened in the 68th minute of the match when Lewandowski scored from the penalty spot. The ref rewarded the penalty after a Dortmund defender fouled Lewandowski inside the 18-yard-box.
The King of Penalties
- Year: 2022
- Competition: World Cup Qualification Playoffs
- Playing for: Poland
- Playing against: Sweden
When it comes to penalties, Robert Lewandowski’s stats are nothing short of breathtaking. In fact, he might be one of the best penalty takers the world has ever seen.
He continued doing the same in the 2020s, scoring plenty of penalty goals both for Bayern Munich and his national team. The goal in question happened on March 29, 2022, when the Polish skipper scored against Sweden.
Poland and Sweden met in Warsaw in a match that would decide which team goes to the 2022 World Cup. The top soccer betting sites thought of Poland as the favorite, although only a modest one with the odds of +130. At halftime, it sure seemed they were right.
However, five minutes into the second half, Lewandowski got himself in the spotlight. He stepped up as the man who’s going to take the penalty for Poland after a Swedish player fouled one of his teammates.

Unsurprisingly, Lewa slotted the ball at the back of the net, giving his team an upper hand. With the Swedes shaken up, Poland was able to get another goal in, booking itself a World Cup ticket.
What Is Robert Lewandowski’s Best Goal Ever?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so that you might disagree with my picks for Robert Lewandowski’s best goals.
You may think that his hat-trick for Dortmund against Bayern in the 2012 German Cup final deserves to be on the list. Or maybe the goal against Ajax, which he scored for Dortmund from an almost impossible angle?
Sure, all those goals belong in the Robert Lewandowski highlights.
One may argue that all of those belong to the group of Lewandowski’s best goals. Still, the most aesthetically pleasing is probably the flying volley he scored in the 57th minute of the game.
There you have it, I select Robert Lewandowski’s best goals. If you like these sorts of posts, why not check out Cristiano Ronaldo’s Top 5 Greatest Goals as well?
