Predictions and Betting Picks for Every Major Category at the 2020 Emmy Awards

| August 27, 2020 7:54 am PDT

The 2020 Emmy Awards are here in roughly a month. The best performances in television for the past year will be shown some respect, when the (virtual) red carpet rolls out on September 20th.

If you plan on betting on the Emmys, be sure to use some of the best Emmy Awards betting sites available online.

All of the entertainment betting websites listed above are trusted, reliable, and happen to offer some of the best wagers and odds you’ll find.

This event won’t go down as it has so many times before, but elite actors and amazing TV shows will still get their due. It’s up to you to project how things will play out so you can make some money betting on the Emmys.

I’m here to help, as I’m issuing my final 2020 Emmy Awards predictions, in an effort to figure out who will win this year. To do that, let’s check out the latest Emmys odds for each major category, and provide a pick for who will win.

Outstanding Comedy Series

  • Schitt’s Creek (-175)
  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (+145)
  • Curb Your Enthusiasm (+900)
  • The Good Place (+1200)
  • Dead to Me (+1400)
  • The Kominsky Method (+1800)
  • Insecure (+2500)
  • What We Do in the Shadows (+4000)

Schitt’s Creek has been one of the funniest shows on TV or streaming for years, but it’s just now finally getting its due.

It has some stiff competition, of course, from a former winner in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel to one of my favorite 2020 Emmys sleepers in Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The momentum has been building toward a Schitt’s Creek win, though, and at a solid -175 price, I see no reason from refraining from that bet.

Pick
  • Schitt’s Creek
    -175

Outstanding Drama Series

  • Succession (-450)
  • Ozark (+350)
  • The Crown (+600)
  • Better Call Saul (+1000)
  • The Handmaid’s Tale (+2000)
  • Stranger Things (+2800)
  • Killing Eve (+3500)
  • The Mandalorian (+5000)

Succession has been doing an amazing job for the drama side of things, and they feel like just as much of a lock to win as Schitt’s Creek does.

Bettors can acknowledge that The Crown is on its way out and could be in contention for a “they’re due” win, while the show has also produced a litany of individual Emmys winners.

Better Call Saul, Stranger Things, and Killing Eve have never really gotten the credit they were do, either. And if Ozark is ever going to win, it feels like this would be the year they do it.

The Handmaid’s Tale has lost some steam over the past year, but we can’t forget the Elizabeth Moss-fueled vehicle won back in 2017.

All of this aside, Succession has only gotten better and nothing really touches it. The -450 price is obscene, but I don’t see a contender that stands out here.

Pick
  • Succession
    -450

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

  • Eugene Levy (-275)
  • Ramy Youssef (+300)
  • Ted Danson (+400)
  • Don Cheadle (+1200)
  • Michael Douglas (+1200)
  • Anthony Anderson (+1500)

This really does feel like the year of Schitt’s Creek, and along with the show likely winning, I think the main stars are in for some hardware, as well.

Levy being a favorite to win at the 2020 Emmys is one of the worst kept secrets in the entertainment industry, and I don’t really see anyone who could stop him.

Ted Danson is a living legend that still does great work in The Good Place and Ramy Youssef is on the upward swing, but this is Levy’s award to lose.

Pick
  • Eugene Levy
    -275

Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series

  • Brian Cox (-210)
  • Jason Bateman (+200)
  • Jeremy Strong (+350)
  • Billy Porter (+1400)
  • Sterling K. Brown (+1600)
  • Steve Carell (+2200)

Are the 2020 Emmy Awards just an event where we shower praise on Schitt’s Creek and Succession?

Why yes, yes it is.

It won’t be that easy for every single category, but for the big ones, it does appear to be going in that direction. Succession should win for best drama, but a huge reason why is the stoic and steady presence of the legendary Brian Cox.

Cox is the driving force behind one of television’s biggest hits, and it’ll be a massive upset if he doesn’t win. Despite being a huge favorite (and winning this same award at the 2020 Golden Globes), his -210 Emmys odds are quite approachable.

Jason Bateman is a fine contender at +200 and Sterling K. Brown is a veteran that won back in 2017, but this is Cox’s hour.

Pick
  • Brian Cox
    -210

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series

  • Catherine O’Hara (-750)
  • Rachel Brosnahan (+350)
  • Christina Applegate (+650)
  • Issa Rae (+1200)
  • Linda Cardellini (+1800)
  • Tracee Ellis Ross (+3300)

Catherine O’Hara is winning this award. There, I said it. She’s due, she’s amazing in Schitt’s Creek, and the odds indicate she’s an insanely heavy favorite.

But who is betting on her to win at these -750 odds? I sure wouldn’t, so I’m either avoiding this bet like the plague or finding someone else worth betting on.

The next best bet is Brosnahan, who has won this very award for her work in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. She’s unlikely to keep O’Hara from glory, but if someone is going to do it, Brosnahan’s quirky turn as Miriam Maisel fits the bill.

Pick
  • Rachel Brosnahan
    +350

Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series

  • Laura Linney (+125)
  • Olivia Colman (+175)
  • Jennifer Aniston (+275)
  • Jodie Comer (+1400)
  • Zendaya (+2000)
  • Sandra Oh (+4000)

This may be one of the few Emmy Awards where it feels like a wide-open race. Who did the work to get the nod? Well, all of these actresses, really.

Seriously, Jennifer Aniston finally broke out as a legit TV actress (sit back down, Friends), Jodie Comer already won for Killing Eve in 2019, and Sandrah Oh probably should have won the same award from the same show.

Colman is undeniably Linney’s biggest threat, and at +175, we can all consider her after she took home the same award at the Golden Globes.

But Linney gutted herself in the third season of Ozark. She broke bad, she sabotaged her husband’s plans, and he sold out her own brother. This all, mind you, while maintaining an intangible redeeming quality, and also pouring her heart out.

Colman is a fine pivot, and everyone here is deserving of being nominated. But Linney earned this Emmy, and she’s among my best Emmys bets. You can bet on her yourself at a silly +125 at most Emmys betting sites.

Pick
  • Laura Linney
    +125

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series

  • Tony Shalhoub (-300)
  • Daniel Levy (LOCKED)
  • Alan Arkin (+800)
  • Mahershala Ali (+1000)
  • Kenan Thompson (+1400)
  • Sterling K. Brown (+1600)
  • Andre Braugher (+3300)
  • William Jackson Harper (+3300)

Daniel Levy is another terrific Schitt’s Creek alum that could totally win. Maybe you can bet at him at some entertainment betting sites, but I’m pulling the latest 2020 Emmys odds from BetOnline, and they have him locked.

Levy is in play if you can find him available somewhere, but if he can’t be bet on, just ride Shalhoub to an easy win. He’s the sizable favorite, anyways, and the guy is a legend for his laundry list of wins as star of Monk.

Pick
  • Tony Shalhoub
    -300

Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series

  • Billy Crudup (-130)
  • Kieran Culkin (+250)
  • Bradley Whitford (+400)
  • Matthew Macfayden (+500)
  • Giancarlo Esposito (+1000)
  • Jeffrey Wright (+3300)
  • Mark Duplass (+3300)
  • Nicholas Braun (+3300)

This isn’t my favorite category, as this year’s crop is a tad underwhelming. Crudup is the mild favorite for his work on The Morning Show, and the well-traveled actor certainly deserves his time in the spotlight.

Of course, Succession is as big of a heavy-hitter as they come, so it’s naturally produced a platform for several actors to thrive. Culkin is one of them, as he’s generated perhaps the finest work of his underrated career.

You’ve got some huge names to contend with here, too, as Whitford, Esposito, and Wright all stand out as totally viable Emmys value bets. Of course, if I have to lay some cash here, I’m riding the Succession hype train and betting on Culkin.

Pick
  • Kieran Culkin
    +250

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series

  • Alex Borstein (-500)
  • D’Arcy Carden (LOCKED)
  • Annie Murphy (+350)
  • Kate McKinnon (+550)
  • Marin Hinkle (+1400)
  • Betty Gilpin (+2500)
  • Cecily Strong (+3300)

Bortstein is a huge favorite and likely one we don’t need to mess with. It surely is Rachel Brosnohan who runs The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but if there is a professional scene-stealer, it’s undeniably Borstein.

She feels like a lock here, while Carden is literally a locked wager at BetOnline right now, and nobody else comes close to Bortstein.

Pick
  • Alex Borstein
    -500

Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series

  • Helena Bonham Carter (-350)
  • Julia Garner (+450)
  • Sarah Snook (+450)
  • Laura Dern (+1000)
  • Meryl Streep (+1000)
  • Samira Wiley (+3300)
  • Fiona Shaw (+4000)
  • Thandie Newton (+4000)

This is another Emmys betting category that seems fairly self-explanatory. Helena Bonham Carter lost out to Patricia Arquette at the 2020 Golden Globes, but that was arguably a mistake, and going into the 2020 Emmys, she’s head and shoulders above the competition.

The much younger Julia Garner is a spitfire who matured on the fly in Ozark, but I’m not sure she’s yet ready to take on such a victory. Laura Dern could be, Meryl Streep is obviously deserving of any praise thrown her way, and Thandie Newton at the bottom is borderline laughable.

This is a stacked category, but Bonham Carter got burned at the Golden Globes. Look for the Emmys to right that wrong.

Pick
  • Helena Bonham Carter
    -350

I don’t see Yvonne Orji on your list for supporting comedy actress.
