Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld Power vs. Barney Charity Match

Darts fans across the world rejoice! We will be treated to a mouth-watering clash between two of the sport’s biggest legends, Phil Taylor and Raymond van Barneveld. The two will be battle it out from their own living rooms with all the generated money going to a charity fundraiser.

With the lack of professional sport to wager on right now, this bout comes as a sight for sore eyes for bettors too. Bookmakers have rolled out odds for the game and we have a chance to both enjoy the epic showdown and win some cash.

The two players are both retired now, and it is difficult to say who has the steadier hand at the moment, but we can certainly use past statistics to our advantage here.

In my The Power vs. Barney betting preview, I share what the betting sites have on offer for the match and provide a brief look into the careers of both legends, plus some key stats to consider prior to betting.

I wrap up with my own betting prediction and a free pick.

So, let’s dust off the board and arrows and get down to business.

The Power vs. Barney Odds

I have taken odds from two of the top-rated darts bookmakers. Here is how the two legends stack up.

  BetOnline Betway
The Power to Win -180 1.50
Barney to Win +150 2.50

As you can see, The Power is given a huge advantage over his old foe, and that is to be expected. However, Barney has been one of the very few pros who could really rattle Taylor.

Let’s move on to the player profiles and see if we can figure out where the betting value lies.

Phil “The Power” Taylor

Taylor is widely considered the best all-time player in the history of professional darts. He is the holder of numerous records, and his career highlights include 237 titles, 72 of which came in PDC majors. The Power also has 11 televised nine-darters. That’s more than any other player has mustered.

He started out back in 1976 and spent 40 years at the top of the darts rankings. The 2016 Masters was the last notable tournament The Power contested. Shortly after his loss to Michael van Gerwen, he decided to retire.

There have been rumors about a return, but these will probably not materialize. However, the upcoming game will give us another taste of his unique quality and character.

Raymond “Barney” van Barneveld

Barney is an absolute legend of the sport and the most decorated Dutch player in history. His compatriot Michael van Gerwen has been dominating the darts scene for a while now, but he still has some way to go before achieving the cult status that van Barneveld holds.

Barney has 82 overall titles to his name. Twenty-one of these came in major tournaments, and 27 were in TV events. He has also recorded five televised nine-darters.

After a crushing defeat against Darin Young at the 2020 PDC World Championship, van Barneveld decided to end his professional career.

The Power vs. Barney Betting Prediction and Pick

The bookmakers are expecting Taylor to win this and with good reason. Barney may have been able to best him a few times during their rivalry, but The Power still has a huge head-to-head advantage. In all the meetings during their active careers, Taylor has won 61 ties, while van Barneveld has only 18 wins.

I guess there is a case for Barney to nick this. After all, he was still a professional at the turn of the year, while Taylor has had four years to enjoy all of the perks that London can give you in retirement.

However, Taylor is still as competitive as he was as a pro, and I can guarantee you he has been gearing up properly for the showdown.

Barney will no doubt put up a fight, but I back Taylor to edge this. Despite the long hiatus, he is still very much the better player and has had enough time to practice his aim.

The Power doesn’t like to lose, so I’m compelled to go with the lower odds here.
