Dortmund all but lost its final chance of winning the Bundesliga — and its barnstorming striker — at home to Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. But the Yellow-Blacks will need to regroup to ensure that it finishes as high up in the league as possible.

Bottom-of-the-table Paderborn is next up for Lucien Favre’s side. But the top-flight minnows have surprised a few sides this season, so a win for the away team is not guaranteed. I’ve provided my Paderborn vs. Borussia Dortmund prediction and betting pick below.

BetOnline predictably makes Dortmund the overwhelming favorite to win this fixture. But the game between the two sides earlier in the season threw up enough surprises to suggest that the result on Sunday is not a foregone conclusion. Surely Paderborn can’t shock Dortmund again?

Paderborn has attracted a lot of praise this season for its entertaining brand of soccer and the attitude shown by its players. Unfortunately, those plaudits have not been translated into points and Steffen Baumgart’s team is now eight points adrift from even the relegation playoff spot with just six games to go.

Back in November Paderborn incredibly raced into a 3-0 lead at half time in the game against Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion, before crumbling towards the end and having to make do with just a point. That game sums up Paderborn’s entire season quite nicely, but there is a really desperate need for more points now.

In all likelihood that hope is going to go unfulfilled on Sunday, as even an Erling Braut Haaland-less Dortmund should have far too much about it not to pick up the victory. The Norwegian star strained a thigh muscle in the Bayern game and will now miss out.

That game against the reigning champions on Tuesday ended Dortmund’s realistic hopes for a league title, but if it can keep on winning then it will be in the right place if Bayern somehow messes things up in the next few weeks. It seems unlikely, but that is how Dortmund’s players have to think now.

You have to feel that Paderborn missed out on the chance to beat Dortmund this season when it allowed Lucien Favre’s side to come back into the game after being three goals down with just 45 minutes to play. Paderborn might be nice to watch, but it hasn’t been able to cope with the German top flight this season and shouldn’t be able to cope with Dortmund on Sunday, either.
