Outlaw Tour Odds and Predictions

Get ready to see some low numbers this week in Phoenix at the GCU Championship. The Outlaw Tour joins forces with the Golden State Tour to bring us three days of action in what is far from a “mini-tour event.”

Calum Hill is ranked 136th in the OWGR and has won three times on the European’s Challenge Tour. J.J. Spaun has nine career top-10s and has racked up more than $4.4 million in earnings on the PGA Tour, while Dylan Wu is slotted inside the top 5 on this season’s Korn Ferry Tour’s points list.

Perhaps nobody in the field is hotter than Nicolo Galletti, who arrives at Grand Canyon University GC on the heels of eight consecutive rounds of 67 or better. This includes a victory last week at the Legacy Shootout.

Let’s dive into the Outlaw Tour odds and start poking around for some value.

GCU Championship Odds to Win

Why last week’s winner Nicolo Galletti isn’t among the top-5 favorites is a question you’ll have to ask the best golf betting sportsbooks, not me. The former ASU golfer has ripped off 48 birdies and 4 eagles during his last eight competitive rounds on the Outlaw Tour. All eight of these rounds have taken place since April 7th en route to finishing 2nd-3rd-1st (in the last three events).

Nicolo is a pretty clear-cut value play this week given his +1200 price tag, but there’s all sorts of value available.

GCU Championship Value-Play

If Galletti’s golf game is scorching, Nick Mason’s is red-hot. The Colorado native shot 12-under par on his way to finishing third this past week at the Parker Open. Before that, Nick placed third at the Orange Tree Classic (April 7-9) and 5th at the Arrowhead Classic (April 13-15).

Outlaw Tour Sleeper This Week

Brendon Jelley was overshadowed during his time at Stillwater by names like Viktor Hovland and Matthew Wolff, but the Tulsa native has quietly turned in a stellar season on the Outlaw Tour. Jelley has only made five starts dating back to the end of November but has placed inside the top 10 on all five occasions.

The Oklahoma State product closed with back-to-back bogey-free rounds his last time out at the Moon Valley Classic.

GCU Championship Betting Favorites

Calum Hill is an intriguing young name, but I’m not sure there is value at +600.

Hill won the Verrado Founders Championship and finished 16th at the Western Skies Classic — his only two starts on the Outlaw Tour in 2020. Worth noting, the 25-year-old Scottish golfer finished 54th at the 2020 Oman Open, which is the only cut he has made in four starts this year on the European Tour.

On the flip side, Dylan Wu at +750 makes some sense. The Northwestern grad ranks 4th on the Korn Ferry Tour in driving accuracy and 8th in GIR, so it’s no wonder he’s sitting 4th on the KFT in scoring average. Wu fired 68-68 last week on the Outlaw Tour (T-6th) and should be ready to pounce.

With as many talented golfers as there are teeing it up at the GCU Championship, there’s only one 2019/2020 PGA Tour player in the field. I’m referring to J.J. Spaun, a Scottsdale resident who is no stranger to success in the Phoenix area. The former Aztec won the Thunderbird Invite twice as a collegian and registered a T-4th at the 2017 Waste Management Phoenix Open.

You could argue that Spaun at +800 is actually a bargain.

My Pick Is In

I can’t argue with anyone who wants to pull the trigger on Wu or Spaun, and Brendon Jelley is offering tons of upside at +3300.

However, the GCU Championship is being sanctioned by the Golden State Tour, and who’s more trustworthy on the GST than Mark Anguiano?

The California native has bounced around various tours since turning pro in 2014, but there’s no question the Golden State Tour is where Mark feels most comfortable. Don’t just take my word for it — check out his game log and see that he’s won a whopping six times on the GST since 2019 alone.

Anguiano has landed inside the top 5 in 9 of his last 12 Golden State Tour starts and tallied a solo-4th four weeks ago on the Outlaw Tour. With him at +1000 to win the GCU Championship, I’ll take my chances.
