Odds for 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year

It pays to be a top pick if you want to win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award. Save for Darius Leonard shocking with a brilliant season (and winning the award) in 2018, the trophy has routinely gone to stud defenders taken early in the draft.

Nick Bosa kept that trend alive in 2019, as he had the talent to go #1 overall and parlayed getting picked by the 49ers into a Super Bowl run.

That doesn’t mean every Defensive Rookie of the Year comes from such elite draft pedigree, which is why sports bettors need to consider the top contenders and the top sleepers.

With that, let’s take a look at the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year odds for 2020 and see which options should be most appealing to bettors.

2020 Defensive Rookie of the Year Odds

One look at the odds to win the 2020 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, and it’s easy to see who will probably win.

Chase Young follows a recent string of stud Ohio State pass rushers and could be in place with the Redskins to make a massive impact in year one. It’s tough to fight the logic, as well as his odds.

Bettors may just give into him as the top bet, but there are still some other routes to consider. Isaiah Simmons is a solid pivot wager, while there exist a few sleepers to track leading into the new NFL season.

To get an idea of which candidates make the most sense, let’s go over the top Defensive Rookie of the Year threats, as well as some viable value bets.

Top Contenders

Young is the favorite and makes complete sense as the main focus for bettors. His +250 odds aren’t amazing, but for the likely winner, they will do.

He’s a freak athlete with insane college production, and he’ll be entering a Ron Rivera system that could give him the opportunity to flourish instantly.

If you don’t want to bet on Chase Young, though, you can look at Isaiah Simmons, who graded out as an amazing athlete at the NFL Combine.

Simmons was extremely versatile in college, too, so depending on how the Arizona Cardinals opt to use him, he could be a sensation in year one.

Patrick Queen and Kenneth Murray are two other threats to consider. Both are athletic linebackers with the ability to produce early on. Queen could be a star with a strong Ravens defense, while Murray could carve out a huge role for the Chargers.

Potential Sleepers

If you’re not betting on one of those top contenders, you should think about chasing elite betting value.

It doesn’t take long to get to it, as A.J. Epenesa has the fourth-best NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year odds and carries a sweet +2000 price tag.

Despite grading out poorly at this year’s NFL Combine, Epenesa was a force up front at Iowa last year. He doesn’t have a clear path to a starring role, but he actually projects nicely on the outside of Buffalo’s defensive line.

Epenesa is a fine try, but I’d dig deeper with interesting sleepers like CJ Henderson (+2500), Derrick Brown (+2500), and Jeff Okudah (+2500). They’re all elite talents, share the same intriguing odds, and may all be looking at a huge defense role right out of the gates.

Brown is very interesting, as he is so disruptive up front and can make an impact as a run stuffer and pass rusher. The best play may be Okudah, however, as he’ll be tasked with replacing Darius Slay in Detroit.

Bettors looking for even more value can take a dive with guys like K’Lavon Chaisson (+2800) or Trevon Diggs (+2800). This is the wager to really soak up value, though, with even more options being available at BetOnline.

Kyle Dugger (+4000), Bryce Hall (+5000), and Xavier McKinney (+3300) all have the talent to chase this award in 2020.
