Manchester United will be aiming to extend their unbeaten run to 18 games in all competitions when Southampton visits Old Trafford on Monday. But Saints will be confident of upsetting the odds after enjoying a series of positive results in recent weeks.

Betway isn’t giving Southampton much of a chance here, and that isn’t because Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side hasn’t been playing well. Saints have only suffered one defeat since the restart, but Man Utd’s unstoppable run makes the host the bookies’ clear favorite to win this matchup.

Let’s take a look at how both sides have been getting on.

Manchester United vs. Southampton Preview

Man Utd’s fine form either side of the lay-off has propelled the club into top-four contention. The Red Devils were languishing in mid-table before the turn of the year, but a seemingly unstoppable unbeaten streak has lifted them to within touching distance of the Champions League places.

In a dominant 3-0 win over Aston Villa last time out, Mason Greenwood became the first teenager since Wayne Rooney in 2005 to score in three consecutive Premier League games for the club. Bruno Fernandes has also been immense, racking up 13 goals involvements — seven goals and six assists — in his first ten top-flight games in England.

However, while the forward players have been grabbing most of the headlines, Man Utd’s defense has quietly become one of the toughest in the division. United is unbeaten in 17 games, and the team has kept a clean sheet on an incredible 12 occasions during that period.

Meanwhile, Southampton has also been playing some top-quality soccer recently. Victories over Norwich, Watford, and Manchester City since the resumption have given the club an outside chance of sneaking a spot in next season’s Europa League, although a comfortable mid-table finish is looking more realistic.

Danny Ings has kept himself in the Golden Boot race with four goals in five games since the break, but can the lethal striker extend his impressive goalscoring run against Man Utd’s mean defense?

Ings’ blistering form makes him a threat to even the best backlines in world soccer, but Man Utd’s forwards are on another level right now. I’m confident that Saints will give a good account of themselves, but I just can’t see anything stopping United’s remarkable run at the moment.
