Leonard Fournette Prediction – Where Will He Play in 2020?

Teams That Need to Trade For Leonard Fournette

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a period of change. The team traded away big names in Calais Campbell and Nick Foles, while Jalen Ramsey was shipped to the Rams last season.

With the team backing second-year passer Gardner Minshew II as their quarterback of the here and now, recent negative remarks by star running back Leonard Fournette weren’t well-received.

Fournette’s public bashing of Minshew (or ringing endorsement of Cam Newton) has led to loud Leonard Fournette trade rumors, even if sources indicate the former LSU stud has been made available for months.

I’m a believer of both possibilities, but the important thing is Fournette doesn’t seem long for Jacksonville. There are already limitations to what he can do as a feature back, while he hasn’t exactly always done right by the organization.

While his time with the Jaguars may be up, Fournette is still an every-down rusher who can punch in touchdowns, lead a running game, and even offer help as a receiver.

With that, here are the most likely Leonard Fournette suitors, along with a prediction for which team will trade for him.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Buccaneers are in win-now mode. Some even think the Buccaneers can win the Super Bowl this year.

They convinced a living legend in Tom Brady to latch onto their roster, and they have an offense that just made James Winston look good.

Tampa Bay has to patch some holes on defense, but a lot of their upgrades can come in the draft. One could be running back, as the team only has Ronald Jones to hang their hat on.

Instead of picking one, they could just send a draft pick to Jacksonville and get a proven commodity in Fournette.

Kansas City Chiefs

The rich get richer? That could be the case here, where the Chiefs could land a stud every-down back and slide Damien Williams to a likely more appropriate change-of-pace role.

The Chiefs are already expected to address the position in the 2020 NFL Draft, with our Kansas City Chiefs mock draft having them land Zack Moss in round three.

Maybe they do that, but a move like this cements their running back room and allows them to get a bit more creative in round one.

Los Angeles Rams

LA just released Todd Gurley. Provided they’re not fully sold on Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown taking turns leading their rushing attack, maybe they should look for a more proven rusher.

Fournette would qualify, while he’d actually come pretty cheaply. Fournette would give them that early-down thumper, and he obviously has the talent to be an every-down running back.

Only on the books for $4.16 million in 2020, the Rams would also hold a club option to retain Fournette cheaply in 2021.

Miami Dolphins

I know the Dolphins just brought in Jordan Howard, but he’s a suspect receiver, and Fournette would be an overall upgrade.

For a team that just went through an entire season with Kalen Ballage and Patrick Laird getting serious playing time, this is something Miami has to consider.

The Dolphins have a rapidly improving roster, and adding a proven rusher like Fournette to the mix could help them greatly.

Who Will Trade for Leonard Fournette?

The Buccaneers are absolutely on the short list of teams that should trade for Leonard Fournette. It just doesn’t sound like they will.

When coming to a Leonard Fournette prediction, the first step is eliminating the teams that could make sense but ultimately won’t pull the trigger.

Every team on this list has a need at running back and could trade for Fournette. However, of these potential Leonard Fournette landing spots, the one that stands out the most is Kansas City.

The Chiefs have nothing to lose here, but they sure could get better. Fournette’s comments and past rants have largely been tied to a desire to win. He isn’t a perfect player, but he’s still got a versatile skill set and can break big plays.

It’s certainly worth wondering how he’d perform on the most talented offense in the NFL. With the Chiefs currently listed as +600 Super Bowl 2021 favorites, this is the type of low-risk, high-reward move they can (and should) make.

You can’t bet on where Leonard Fournette plays in 2020 just yet, but the best NFL betting sites are quick to offer these types of props. If that wager becomes available, I’d favor Kansas City.
