La Liga Predictions, Picks, and Best Bets for June 13, 2020

There are four games taking place in the Spanish top flight on Saturday, June 13, as La Liga continues to clear the backlog of fixtures created by the three-month lay-off. Barcelona returns with a trip to Mallorca, while there are also a couple of important relegation six-pointers to be decided.

Here are Saturday’s La Liga fixtures in full.

  • Espanyol vs. Alaves
  • Celta Vigo vs. Villarreal
  • Leganes vs. Valladolid
  • Mallorca vs. Barcelona

The results of Espanyol vs. Alaves and Leganes vs. Valladolid will have a big impact on the battle at the bottom. Celta Vigo will also be aiming to avoid defeat in order to remain clear of the drop zone.

Let’s get stuck into my best bets, predictions, and picks for La Liga’s June 13 games, as well as checking out the best value bets for Saturday’s matchups.

Alaves to Beat Espanyol

A seventh-place finish saw Espanyol qualify for the Europa League last term. But with just four wins to their name this season, the Barcelona outfit is bottom of the table and six points from safety.

In fact, Espanyol has spent the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign stuck inside the bottom three and has been rooted to the foot of the La Liga standings since December. The Budgerigars have been staring relegation in the face for months, and they’re going to need a minor miracle to turn things around.

Alaves isn’t safe from relegation altogether, although there is a seven-point buffer between them and the bottom three. An impressive run of one defeat in six games leading up to the break has left Asier Garitano’s men in a strong position to avoid the drop.

El Glorioso doesn’t exactly score many goals. Forwards Lucas Perez and Joselu have scored 20 of the team’s 29 league goals this term. Still, their defensive record is better than five teams above them in the table, with goalkeeper Fernando Pacheco keeping the team afloat between the sticks.

Ultimately, Alaves should have enough quality to overcome a struggling Espanyol side.

Villarreal to Beat Celta Vigo

2019/20 has been an inconsistent campaign for a lot of clubs in Spain’s top tier, but it’s fair to say that Villarreal has been one of the most unpredictable teams in the division this season. A quick glance at Villarreal’s record — 11 wins and 11 defeats — underlines their inconsistency.

But despite their iffy form, six wins in eight games between December and February mean the Yellow Submarine is eighth. And if it wasn’t for three consecutive defeats in their previous three games, Villarreal would have entered the unexpected lay-off in an even better position.

Meanwhile, Celta Vigo returns to action with plenty of work to do. The league’s second-lowest scorer is just one point clear of the relegation zone, and only bottom club Espanyol has won fewer games than the Sky Blues this term.

Celta hasn’t suffered a defeat in their last five league outings, but extending their unbeaten run to six games is a big ask.

Leganes and Valladolid to Draw

This matchup brings together two relegation rivals. Second-bottom Leganes is three points ahead of Espanyol and a further three from safety, while fifteenth-place Valladolid is currently four points clear of the drop zone.

After managing just one win in their opening 15 La Liga games this season, it was always going to be difficult for Leganes to steer clear of the relegation battle. The team was showing signs of improvement before the campaign was put on hold, but picking up where they left off won’t be easy.

Valladolid — which is owned by Brazil legend Ronaldo — has only won two of their previous 15 league games, although six draws during that period have prevented the club from falling into the bottom three.

With so much at stake here, both sides will be desperate to avoid defeat. I think both managers will be more than happy to settle for a point.

Barcelona to Beat Mallorca

League-leader Barcelona will be aiming to maintain their two-point lead over Real Madrid by securing what should be a routine victory over relegation-threatened Mallorca.

Despite being without the injured Lionel Messi and a number of other absentees, Barcelona is likely to secure a relatively straightforward win. After all, Barca thrashed Mallorca 5-2 in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, so a similar scoreline this time around wouldn’t be a surprise.

Mallorca beat relegation rivals Alaves and Eibar before the season was halted but has still spent the past three months in the bottom three. Sure, no team in the bottom six has won more games this term. But the Balearic Islands outfit has also recorded the most losses in La Liga in 2019/20.

Barcelona has been nowhere near their best this season, but even a weakened Barca side should be far too strong for Mallorca.

La Liga Picks for Saturday, June 13

Having shared my predictions for the four games taking place on June 13, let’s now take a look at the best bets for Saturday’s La Liga clashes.

Espanyol vs. Alaves – Alaves to Win (3.60)

The bookies have made Espanyol the favorite here, with the home win at 2.00. But considering that Espanyol is bottom and Alaves is 12 points ahead in fourteenth, I think it makes sense to back the away side in this fixture.

Due to the remaining La Liga games being played behind closed doors, home teams won’t be able to rely on their supporters for extra encouragement. I believe this will lead to a rise in away wins from now until the end of the season, and Alaves should be one of the first teams to benefit from this.

Mallorca vs. Barcelona – Over 2.5 Barcelona Goals (2.10)

Understandably, the price for the away win (1.25) is pretty low here. Barcelona is the overwhelming favorite to claim all three points against Mallorca, and rightfully so. For that reason, I think it’s best to explore some different markets for this game.

With 63 goals from 27 games, Barca is the division’s highest-scoring team this season. The Catalan giant has scored over 2.5 goals on ten occasions in La Liga, and I can see the team returning with another high-scoring victory.

In my opinion, odds of 2.10 for Barcelona to score over 2.5 goals against the league’s third-bottom side seem very generous, so I highly recommend taking advantage of this bet.
