La Liga Predictions and Betting Picks – June 25, 2020
The fun doesn’t stop!
As the Spanish top flight continues to clear the backlog of fixtures created by the unexpected lay-off, the fifteenth consecutive day of La Liga action dishes up two more games.
Here are Thursday’s La Liga matchups.
- Eibar vs. Valencia
- Real Betis vs. Espanyol
Without a win since the restart, Eibar welcomes an unpredictable Valencia outfit to the Ipurua Municipal Stadium. In Thursday’s late kickoff, bottom-club Espanyol faces Real Betis.
I share my predictions for both La Liga games taking place on June 25. And if you’re after some betting tips, make sure you stick around for Thursday’s best bets at the end of this post.
Valencia to Beat Eibar
Some teams have managed to eradicate their poor form during the break, but it seems as though Valencia hasn’t been able to shake off their inconsistency. Los Ches has taken four points from a possible nine since the campaign got back underway, and the club has slipped from eighth to ninth.
A comfortable victory over Osasuna on Sunday showed that Valencia is perfectly capable of beating the division’s lesser teams, but a 3-0 defeat to Real Madrid last week proved that Albert Celades’ side is miles behind the top clubs in the country. Still, Valencia remains in the hunt for a European spot.
Eibar has also suffered a heavy defeat to Real Madrid in recent weeks. But despite claiming unexpected draws with Athletic Bilbao and Getafe, the Basque club is still hovering just above the bottom three. It’s fair to say that Eibar’s results since the restart have done very little to ease the club’s relegation fears.
Valencia claimed a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, and I’m expecting a similar scoreline this time around. It probably won’t be a convincing victory, but Valencia has more than enough quality to get the job done.
Real Betis to Beat Espanyol
Just three games into the resumption of the 2019/20 La Liga season, Real Betis has already parted ways with their manager. Rubi was sacked after failing to find a win since the restart, with Alexis Trujillo taking over until the end of the campaign.
Looking at the bigger picture, Betis has only managed to win one of their previous ten league games. A rare victory over Real Madrid just before the season was put on hold gave Rubi a glimmer of hope, but the team’s miserable run of form has dragged Betis perilously close to the relegation battle.
Meanwhile, Espanyol remains rooted to the foot of the table. Despite beating Alaves in their first game back and holding Getafe to a draw a few days later, the Barcelona outfit has failed to steer clear of the bottom three. In fact, a 3-1 loss to Levante last time out means that even a win on Thursday wouldn’t be enough to lift Espanyol out of the relegation zone.
The much-needed managerial change is likely to give Betis a new lease on life. I wouldn’t be surprised if the team’s performance levels go up a notch under their new boss, and given that there is a ten-point gap between Betis and Espanyol in the standings, the home side should win this.
La Liga Picks for Thursday, June 25
It’s time to check out the best value bets for Thursday’s La Liga action.
Eibar vs. Valencia – Both Teams to Score (1.75)
Valencia’s squad is far superior to that of Eibar’s, so the away side should win this game comfortably. However, as I mentioned earlier, it’s difficult to predict how Valencia will fare from one game to the next.
Los Ches looked like a top-six team against Osasuna last time out, but you can’t guarantee that Celades’ men will put in another commanding performance against Eibar. For that reason, I’m backing both teams to score in this matchup. It’s worth mentioning that all three of Eibar’s games since the restart have produced goals at both ends of the pitch.
Real Betis vs. Espanyol – Real Betis to Win (2.10)
The bookies have clearly taken Betis’ poor recent run into account when setting the odds for this game. If this clash had taken place before the break, I don’t think the price for the home win would have been anywhere near as high as it is now.
Let’s not forget that Espanyol has spent the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign in the relegation zone, while almost half of that has been spent at the bottom of the table. Under a new manager, Betis should win this game. Odds of 2.10 for the home win look tasty.
