Table-topping Real Madrid returns to action on Friday, aiming to secure an eighth consecutive victory and edge closer to the 2019/20 La Liga title. Alaves will be aiming to spoil the party on Friday, but can the relegation struggler upset the odds?
In total, there are two games taking place in the Spanish top flight on July 10. Here is Friday’s La Liga fixture list.
Real Sociedad vs. Granada
Real Madrid vs. Alaves
Before Alaves visits the Bernabeu, Real Sociedad has the chance to enhance their European ambitions against Granada. But with just four points separating the two teams in the table, who will come out on top?
I share my predictions for Real Sociedad vs. Granada and Real Madrid vs. Alaves before assessing the best value La Liga bets for Friday, July 10.
Real Sociedad and Granada to Draw
Following a horrendous five-game winless run, Real Sociedad appears to be back on track. Four straight defeats quickly ended the club’s hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League. However, a recent win over Espanyol, along with a draw against Levante, means that a Europe League spot is still very much achievable.
Considering that Sociedad has spent a large portion of the current campaign in the top four, manager Imanol will be disappointed with where his team sits right now. But with 12 points still up for grabs, La Real has the chance to finish the season on a high. Alexander Isak has netted in back-to-back games, while Mikel Oyarzabal has racked up four assists in his last three appearances.
Let’s not forget that Granada was also pushing for a top-four finish earlier in the campaign. Of course, it was always going to be difficult for the newly promoted side to maintain their early-season form. But the club can definitely view their comeback term in La Liga as a success.
Despite the team’s inconsistent run of results, El Grana looks set for a comfortable mid-table finish. Granada has won two, drawn three, and lost two since the restart. But having avoided defeat against Getafe and Valencia in recent weeks, Diego Martinez’s side will be confident of getting something from Friday’s game.
Real Sociedad appears to have turned a corner, but Granada is more than capable of snatching a draw at the Reale Arena.
Real Madrid to Beat Alaves
When the season was put on hold, Real Madrid trailed Barcelona by two points. Zinedine Zidane’s men knew what they had to do, and they have executed their plan to perfection. Seven successive victories since the resumption have put Los Blancos on the verge of regaining the title, but there is still work to be done.
Despite Real Madrid’s breathtaking array of attacking talent, Sergio Ramos has emerged as the unlikely hero. The center-back has scored five goals in seven games since the campaign got back underway, and he will be hoping to help his side secure their fifth clean sheet in a row on Friday.
At the other end of the table, things couldn’t be going much worse for Alaves. Five straight defeats — including a humiliating 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Celta Vigo — have prevented the Basque outfit from securing their safety. Due to the hopeless form of the bottom three, there is still clear daylight between Alaves and the drop zone. But relegation is still a real possibility.
Alaves’ problem is clear for all to see. The team has only scored three goals in seven games since soccer returned, and two of those came in a rare win over Sociedad. With a rock-solid Real Madrid defense up next, I can’t see Alaves rediscovering their goalscoring form at the Bernabeu.
Given the contrasting form of these two sides, you have to fear the worst for Alaves.
La Liga Picks for Friday, July 10
Let’s get stuck into my La Liga betting picks for Friday’s action.
Real Sociedad vs. Granada – Both Teams to Score (1.85)
Real Sociedad had an impressive defensive record before the lay-off, but that seems to have gone out of the window. In fact, La Real has conceded in each of their seven games since the resumption. Having said that, Sociedad has only failed to score on two occasions during that period.
Meanwhile, both teams have scored in five of Granada’s previous eight league outings. The team plays an exciting brand of attacking soccer, but that often leaves their backline exposed. Considering the iffy form of both teams in this matchup, I think odds of 1.85 for both teams to score are worth taking advantage of.
Real Madrid vs. Alaves – Real Madrid to Win and Keep a Clean Sheet (1.90)
The gulf in quality between these two sides is reflected in the odds for this game. The bookies have priced the Real Madrid win at just 1.17, while you can get odds of 14.00 for the Alaves win. Even the price for the draw (6.00) is extremely high.
To find some value here, I recommend adding the clean sheet market onto the home win. As I’ve already mentioned, Real Madrid’s defense is looking impenetrable at the moment, and Alaves seems to have forgotten how to score. You can boost the odds to 1.90 by backing Real Madrid to keep another shutout.
