Khujand vs. Regar-TadAZ Tajikistan Higher League

With Istiklol’s draw last weekend, all other realistic challengers for the league title will have renewed confidence that the champions’ six-year reign might be coming to an end. Whether or not that is the case, these two will want to pick up the points to put themselves in the mix.

Khujand would seem to have the upper hand, but there have been some interesting results already this season in Tajikistan. Find out more about my prediction in this Khujand vs. Regar-TadAZ betting preview.

Khujand vs. Regar-TadAZ Latest Odds

Khujand to Win-192
The Draw+336
Regar-TadAZ to Win+390

BetOnline obviously still has faith in Khujand to be the main competition for Istiklol this season and has made the club from the north of the country the big favorite here. Regar-TadAZ has struggled to get going this season, so that is probably understandable. But the win last time out will have built some confidence in the squad.

Khujand vs. Regar-TadAZ Match Preview

Khujand’s Serbian head coach, Nikola Lazarevic, will be bitterly disappointed that his team could not take advantage of that blip from Istiklol this week. Given a few more days to prepare for the midweek fixture with Kuktosh, there might have been some hope that it could take all three points and jump to the top of the table.

But only a point was gained thanks to a second-half equalizer from Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev. The former Istiklol star will be heavily relied on this season if Khujand is to mount a serious challenge for the title. Getting past games like this will also be vital.

But Regar-TadAZ picked up its first win of the season last week in a convincing 4-1 win against Istaravshan and will believe that now is the time to show its own credentials for the campaign ahead. But although Regar-TadAZ scored in the very first minute, it wasn’t until a barrage of goals in the second half that the game was won.

This will be a much more difficult task for Regar-TadAZ, and manager Uktam Sattarov will be hoping that Tajikistan international midfielder Nozim Bobojonov can have more of an influence on the game. This is the side’s third game away from home already this season, though, so it is definitely the underdog for this fixture.

My Prediction and Pick

  • Khujand to Win

Regar-TadAZ definitely changed some perceptions with the big win last weekend, but there is still a feeling that it is a team that will more than likely finish up in the middle of the table rather than pushing for honors. Khujand could be a real challenger to Istiklol if it can get through early-season fixtures like this, and I think that will be the case on Saturday.
