Khujand vs. Khatlon Odds, Prediction, and Pick – Tajikistan Higher League, April 12

Khujand v Khatlon Betting Preview and Prediction

This looks like being one of the biggest games in Tajikistan this weekend, with both sides successful on matchday one. They are also two of the main contenders looking to unseat Istiklol this season. So the outcome will be eagerly anticipated.

Khatlon fell away dramatically at the end of last year, dropping from third down to the relegation playoff spot in just four games. Up until then, it had performed quite well, although still a fair way off the pace set by the league leaders.

In this Khujand vs. Khatlon betting preview, you’ll find the odds, my prediction for the match, and my pick.

Match Odds

Khujand to Win-294
The Draw+395
Khatlon to Win+620

Even though Khatlon was successful in its opening fixture, sportsbook BetOnline is not expecting much from the trip to the northern city of Khujand. The home side is probably the best side in the country apart from the repeat title winners of Istiklol, but these odds seem a little unfair on Khatlon.

Khujand vs. Khatlon Preview

Khujand made a number of big signings in the offseason, and they have already started to pay off. Uzbekistan international Andrey Sidorov scored in the 3-1 win over CSKA Pamir, and he will no doubt be a threat against Khatlon as well. Former Istiklol star Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev should also have a big part to play here.

Khujand has never been able to win the league and has finished runners up on seven occasions, so Serbian manager Nikola Lazarevic will understand how important it is for his new team to pick up as many points as possible before its first game against Istiklol in May.

After the disappointment of last year, Khatlon will be glad that its first game ended up finishing in a 2-1 win over Istaravshan. It needed a stoppage time penalty from Ekshon Boboev to take the points, though, so a more convincing performance would be good for the nerves.

Khatlon is relying on Tajikistan talent to come through this season, with Ghanaian keeper Godson Quaye the only overseas player in the squad. It is also a very young group, but manager Asliddin Khabibullaev obviously trusts his team to be able to compete.

Khujand vs. Khatlon Pick

  • Khujand to Win

Although I don’t think this one will be quite as easy as the BetOnline odds make out, I do feel that Khujand has the stronger set of players and will take all three points here. The new Uzbekistan international players are particularly talented and could be a major reason for Khujand to give Istiklol a run for the money this season.
