KBO Predictions for Wednesday, May 20 (Round 14)

| May 19, 2020 6:50 am PDT

The first games of the KBO series that started on Tuesday were impressive and some of the teams surprised me. The second meeting of the same ties are going to take place on Wednesday too and it’s time to take a look at all games from round 14 and share my KBO predictions.

I don’t include prices here because they haven’t been released at the time I’m writing this post. The following bookmakers are usually among the first to launch KBO odds, so make sure to follow them.

Also, here’s the complete list of KBO predictions in this post.

  • Hanwha Eagles vs. KT Wiz Suwon
  • LG Twins vs. Samsung Lions
  • Lotte Giants vs. KIA Tigers
  • NC Dinos vs. Doosan Bears
  • SK Wyverns vs. Kiwoom Heroes

Hanwha Eagles to Beat KT Wiz Suwon

There’s little doubt that the opening game between KT Wiz Suwon and Hanwha was among the most entertaining on Tuesday. The hosts opened with 13 runs inside the first five innings and it looked like there was no way back for the Eagles.

That’s when they scored nine in the seventh and closing the lead to only three runs. The late push was enough to make the final innings interesting, but Suwon held to a 13-11 victory.

The fact that Hanwha found almost found a way back is crucial, though. The team’s confidence didn’t suffer a blow and there will be enough belief in the Eagles that they can win the next one. That’s why I’m backing the underdog on Wednesday and I believe it will be a much quieter game with fewer runs.

LG Twins to Beat Samsung Lions

I mentioned in my previous batch of KBO predictions that the LG Twins should easily overcome the Lions and it seems I was right. The favorite took a commanding lead early on and despite allowing four runs in the fifth, it was a relatively easy victory.

I don’t see a reason why something should change on Wednesday and the Lions look like a team that simply doesn’t know how to win. They have the occasional good moment, but there’s no nearly enough consistency to find victories.

Their pitching let them down in the opener and while I expect a slight improvement in that department, I believe that the Twins are better right now and should win again in the second match.

Lotte Giants to Beat KIA Tigers

One of the surprising games for me on Tuesday was between Lotte and KIA. The Giants entered the match as the favorite, but found themselves 5-0 down. I believe that the rampant start of the opponent shocked them and they failed to recover by the end of the game.

Credit to the Tigers for locking the opposition down and holding on to the early lead, but I think it will be completely different on Wednesday.

I expect the Giants to start with full focus from the first inning and with the desperate desire to bounce back immediately. That should be enough to beat a rather average opponent that’s capable of surprises, but doesn’t have enough quality to stay consistent in every game.

NC Dinos to Beat Doosan Bears

The NC Dinos deserve a lot of respect after what we saw on Tuesday. The league leaders faced the best batting team in the KBO, but they didn’t tremble. Instead, the Dinos had a strong display and limited the champions to only 4 runs and 10 hits.

It was a close match that ended in a narrow 5-4 victory. The Doosan Bears already responded in style after losing a couple of times this season, but I believe it will be different on Wednesday.

The NC Dinos have been the best team in South Korea so far and their resilience in the tough moments has made a huge difference. This squad is ready to fight against anyone right now, so another victory over the Bears is on the cards.

Kiwoom Heroes to Beat SK Wyverns

The start of the first match between Kiwoom and SK was wild. The Heroes went 6-0 head in the opening inning and the opponent then bounced back to make it 6-4 in the second. The overall performance of the Wyverns was slightly better than expected, but I don’t think they came nowhere near close to winning.

The Heroes were in control of most of the game and deservedly won by 11-6 with an inning to spare. The gap between the two sides is so big right now that I simply see no other scenario than another victory for the favorite on Wednesday.
