Who Won the Last Isle of Man TT Races?

If you’re looking to make top bets for the 2022 Isle of Man TT, it’s worth knowing who did the job last time around.

Of course, one of the reasons this year’s event is so eagerly anticipated is that it’s the first since 2019. As with many other scheduled sports, COVID had its say with the IOM TT in 2020 and 2021.

For example, those wagering on races with the top Moto GP betting sites will have seen their options limited. But unlike that sport, the Isle of Man TT is set in on a tiny island. Anyway, we can get excited now!

Before I get to the other sections of this 2022 Isle of Man TT betting guide, here’s a look at the winners of all races in 2019.

Isle of Man TT Top Contenders for 2022

There’s no getting away from it. Everyone has their predictions for the 2022 Isle of Man Senior TT. But who exactly will win the race? That’s something I’ll be looking to answer a little later.

For now, here are four riders to watch in the Isle of Man TT in 2022. These guys have the best chances of lighting up the festival.

Peter Hickman

  • Nationality: English
  • TT Wins: 5
  • Last TT Win: 2019 Superstock TT

First up in the drivers to watch at the 2022 Isle of Man TT is England’s Hickman.

Hickman aims to come away from the festival with his sixth Tourist Trophy win, at the very least. There are few riders better equipped to make things happen this summer, given he is the current lap record holder, having registered a jaw-dropping 135.45mph in 2019.

Three of the five TT wins came in the same year, making it something of a shame that the Brit did not have the chance to carry his momentum into 2020. But make no bones about it — Hickman is one of the top favorites to win the 2022 Isle of Man Senior TT.

This year, the 35-year-old rides his FHO Racing BMW M1000RR for Gas Monkey Garage with a #10 startline number.

Michael Dunlop

  • Nationality: Northern Irish
  • TT Wins: 19
  • Last TT Win: 2019 Lightweight TT

The Antrim native is one of the big betting favorites for the 2022 Isle of Man TT.

With 19 TT victories under his belt already, Dunlop is already a megastar in this event. Michael is renowned for his fan-friendly, all-action approach as the torchbearer of the world-famous Dunlop Racing Dynasty. A throwback rider, the 2019 Lightweight TT winner, is also one of the main attractions of this year’s event.

Known for his abrasive and no-nonsense attitude, Dunlop has had many run-ins with drivers and family members alike. But he is what he is, and that self-reliance has brought him a lot of glory in the world’s most dangerous racing event.

One of the key contenders for the Isle of Man TT in 2022.

Dean Harrison

  • Nationality: English
  • TT Wins: 3
  • Last TT Win: 2019 Senior TT

In 2019, Harrison made four podiums from five races. His greatest achievement, and one which puts him among the betting favorites for the 2022 Isle of Man TT, was clinching the Senior TT title.

The Englishman will get a chance to defend his honors in front of an excited crowd. But will he come good following an extended layoff?

The Isle of Man TT odds for Harrison to defend his title is not out at the time of writing. But there is no way in a million Sundays that this guy will not be considered among the best contenders for the IOM TT in 2022.

John McGuinness

  • Nationality: English
  • TT Wins: 23
  • Last TT Win: 2019 Classic TT
John McGuinness

In January, it was announced that the legendary McGuinness will lead this year’s field for Honda.

That news was warmly received by fans of the “King of the Mountain,” who will make a century of starts in 2022. With seven Senior TT wins under his belt, McGuinness is clearly among the favorites for the Isle of Man’s revered race.

Only the late, great Joey Dunlop (26) has managed to bag more TT triumphs than McGuinness. That is a record that the Brit is not too far off.

If he can make the most of his experience on a very nifty and capable Honda Fireblade, we could see the fan-favorite edge closer. A firm favorite for the Senior TT.

Tips for Betting on the 2022 Isle of Man TT

Before wagering on Isle of Man TT odds for 2022 that you come across, you should know what you are betting on.

Although the excitement of this event makes it one of the top sports to bet on, it’s easy to get carried away. When gambling, losing yourself to adrenaline and falling for the hype are bad ideas. So, here are a few 2022 Isle of Man TT tips to make sure you have the best chance of making some money.

2022 Isle of Man TT Tips

  • Practice Bankroll Management – Learning how to use a staking plan when betting on Isle of Man TT races is the first port of call. Only gamble what you can afford to lose, and don’t feel as though you need to wager on every race.
  • Follow Qualifying Sessions – Ever have one of those Mondays at work where everything goes wrong? One that sets the tone for a poor week? Well, so do riders. That’s why it’s essential to see if there are any tell-tale signs of poor performance from the off.
  • Back Drivers with Solid Records – This set of grueling races tends to bring out the best of the best. Therefore, most Isle of Man TT odds for 2022 will be geared toward proven, reliable riders. It’s easy to fall for a good price without questioning why. But there are always reasons why the favorites for the IOM TT races are where they are.
  • Look for Value – Do you know how to find value in betting odds? If not, this should be of high priority. Let’s say that you have done your homework and have identified positive value on, say, Michael Dunlop to win the Lightweight TT. Backing him might be in line with your long-term goals.
  • Get Familiar with the Format – How do the races work? What constitutes a winner? Can you gamble on Isle of Man TT races at all? I’ve purposefully left this one to last. Why? These are all questions you should be able to answer before you dream of making money at this event. If you can’t, you need to do your homework.

Making predictions for the 2022 Isle of Man TT are not the same as betting on the event.

It’s easy just to spout off names at the drop of a hat when there is no money involved, right? If you are going to put your money where your mouth is, make sure to have even a simple sports betting strategy in place.

Furthermore, the Isle of Man TT falls under the motorsports category/. Thus, there are plenty of parallels between wagering on this and other events in the world of auto racing. With that in mind, I’d strongly recommend checking out our guide to betting on motorsports for more helpful tips and nuggets of advice!

Now, let’s get to my predictions for the 2022 Isle of Man TT.

2022 Isle of Man TT Predictions and Top Picks

Rather than make some easy predictions for who will win the 2022 Isle of Man TT, I’d like to take a slightly different approach.

Most of this 2022 Isle of Man TT betting guide has been geared toward covering the full spectrum of the event. We’ve covered where to bet on the IOM TT, some tips for the races, and the complete Isle of Man TT schedule for this year.

So, in keeping with an open theme, here are some predictions for who should dominate on the island this year across multiple races.

Top Picks for the Isle of Man TT in 2022

  • Peter Hickman
  • Michael Dunlop
  • John McGuinness
Michael Dunlop

I fancy Hickman to have a strong summer. The Englishman was on fire in 2019, and I expect him to pick up where he left off.

He looks nailed on for a podium in the Superstock TT and could be in for another haul of trophies.

While online Uk gambling sites bettors frequent are yet to post odds for the Isle of Man TT, I’d keep an eye on them, especially if you’re curious about Hickman’s prices heading into race week.

Michael Dunlop’s balls-to-the-wall attitude should put him above many of his peers when all is said and done. There will be a lot of uncertainty heading into this year’s races, but he is someone that should get off to a good start.

John McGuiness is the last of my betting picks for the 2022 Isle of Man TT. To be more precise, I’m predicting him to smash the Senior TT and would be very surprised if that is not the case.

Betting on 2022 Isle of Man TT Races

This event, almost esoteric to but a small number outside Britain and Ireland, is utterly unique. Although one of the most exciting and dangerous events on the planet, it has still maintained a peculiar charm.

Sure, while making betting picks for the 2022 Isle of Man TT will add to the excitement, it’s cool if you’re just planning on watching.

By all means, if you are keen to get your picks down, you can always brush up your knowledge by giving this piece another read. But if you’d rather aim to make money on other events, that’s fine. I would dissuade anyone from gambling on stuff they don’t quite understand!
