After the first ten days of the 2020 French Open, two men have looked unstoppable and their names won’t surprise most people. Both Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic are yet to lose a set and they have been close to their best.

With all due respect to the Serbian, this is Nadal’s tournament. The King of Clay has been devastating and when he plays like that, he ends up winning the French Open. It’s hard to expect anything else in 2020, so my money is on Rafa.

Most of the big guns are out of the 2020 French Open and the title is up for grabs. Elina Svitolina is the player with the highest WTA rank at this point, but Iga Swiatek has been on another level. The Polish teenager demolished every opponent so far, including the big favorite Simona Halep and I believe that she might win her first Grand Slam title.

October 7

Not much has changed in the past several days. Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic still look unstoppable and the women’s singles event is still producing surprising results. Iga Swiatek looks like the favorite at this point, but it’s close to impossible to tell what’s going to happen.

There’s an argument that we saw the match of the tournament so far yesterday when Diego Schwartzman eliminated his close friend Dominic Thiem.

It was a gruesome encounter and I believe that the Austrian simply didn’t have the energy after winning the US Open recently. His opponent deserves a lot of credit, though, and it’s interesting to see if he can put up a fight against Nadal in the semis.

October 5

The women’s singles event has been full of surprises and we even saw Simona Halep completely destroyed by the Polish teenager Iga Swiatek. It’s hard to predict what’s going to happen and every player left should feel like this is the chance of a lifetime.

The situation has been different in the men’s French Open 2020. Rafa Nadal and Novak Djokovic have been phenomenal. Dominic Thiem is still around too despite some problems in his last match and I expect one of these three to lift the trophy.

October 2

Most of the top seeds did a good job yesterday and the big exception is Karolina Pliskova. Her wait for a Grand Slam title will continue after a defeat against Jelena Ostapenko.

The other big casualty was Denis Shapovalov who lost a five-set thriller against Roberto Carballes Baena. There were several other dramatic matches in both the men’s and the women’s singles, so the 2020 French Open has certainly delivered so far.

September 30

Serena Williams is out of the 2020 French Open! The American retired before her match against Tsvetana Pironkova in the second round because of an injury, so another favorite is done.

Elsewhere, we saw two huge five setters in the men’s singles. Rublev and Tsitsipas almost paid for the good performance in Hamburg with an early exit, but both survived a huge scare to progress.

Most of the other favorites did well across the board, so not big names were eliminated.

September 29

The first two days of the 2020 French Open have been hectic. The cold weather, the complaints about the new balls, and the lack of big crowds make this edition unique. We saw plenty of seeded players out in the first round and one truly huge upset.

For the fourth time in a row, Daniil Medvedev couldn’t get past the opener and the Roland-Garros is obviously not his best Grand Slam. The likes of Auger Aliassime, Fognini, Monfils, Coric, De Minaur, Goffin, Kerber, Keys, and Konta are also out.

That’s a long list for only two days of action and I have the feeling it will only keep growing.

September 23

Another big name will miss the French Open 2020. Bianca Andreescu is out because of the tight timing and I completely see where she is coming from. It’s going to be a weird tournament, but there are still plenty of top players left, so it should be fun.

September 22

The Italian Open 2020 is now over and I was impressed with some of the players. Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep were both excellent on the road to the tile and that tells us a lot on what to expect in the 2020 French Open. September 18

Naomi Osaka announced that she won’t play in the French Open 2020 because of a hamstring injury. It’s a shame that the young star is out, but the schedule is certainly weird after the global pandemic and the athletes have to protect their health.

September 11

After missing the US Open 2020, Ashleigh Barty announced that she won’t be traveling to Europe and she won’t defend her 2019 French Open title.
