Hang Yuen vs. Taichung Futuro Taiwan Premier League

With both these sides winning on the opening day of the season, this game is a perfect opportunity to see whether either can continue a sustained challenge for the title this year.

Neither will be expected to topple Tatung from its perch, but this season looks like being one of the closest since the league’s rebranding four years ago.

Hang Yuen to Win-122
The Draw+296
Taichung Futuro to Win+250

Hang Yuen’s comprehensive victory last weekend may have influenced BetOnline making it the favorite here. But this game looks very evenly balanced to me. Taichung has a completely new look and still picked up three points on the opening day. So the draw might be the best value bet here.

Match Preview

Hang Yuen was expected to struggle this season after losing top goal scorer Benchy Estama as well as Joo Ik-Seong in the offseason. So it was probably best that the first game was against Red Lions, who finished bottom last year. The visitors may have a new-look squad of its own but still ended up on the wrong end of a 4-0 thrashing.

Most promising for Hang Yuen was that Wu Yen-Shu was one of the players that managed to get on the score sheet. The international midfielder will find a lot of pressure on his shoulders this season. He may even turn out to be the difference against Taichung.

But the visitors will probably look to one of Hang Yuen’s former stars as its main threat. Joo Ik-Seong is returning to his old club on Sunday and will be looking to open his goal account for the year. He didn’t manage to do that in the 2-1 win over NTUS last weekend.

The NTUS goal didn’t come until stoppage time, though, so the scoreline probably looks closer than the game actually was. Taichung brought in new coach Toshiaki Imai in the offseason, of course, and he will be looking to his large Japanese contingent to play their part against Hang Yuen here.

Hang Yuen vs. Taichung Futuro Pick

  • The Draw

Both these clubs’ results last weekend should be read with caution. Hang Yuen beat the whipping boys of the league, and Taichung only narrowly beat NTUS but is fielding an eleven that will take time to get used to each other.

I feel that these two will actually be fairly even this season, so a draw would be the way to go here. That will probably suit both managers to go into round three unbeaten.
