Gwangju FC vs. Seongnam FC Betting Preview With Prediction and Pick – K-League 1, May 9
Last year’s K-League 2 champions open its new season with a home game against a Seongnam side that only returned to the top flight itself a year ago.
Neither club will be expected to trouble the top of the table too much this year, but a win on the opening weekend of the season would be a great way to start off.
My Gwangju FC vs. Seongnam FC prediction and betting pick are below.
Gwangju FC vs. Seongnam FC Odds
Online sportsbook BetOnline tags Gwangju as favorite to win this game, but there is little to choose between the two sides here. Seongnam performed admirably last year to stay up, but there has been a number of changes in personnel that could affect its chances in 2020. The odds for the home win initially seem to be the one to look out for here.
Gwangju FC vs. Seongnam FC Match Preview
Gwangju led the way virtually throughout the entire season last year in K-League 2 and ended up winning the title by six points from nearest challengers Busan IPark. The top flight will be a different proposition, however, so it is good to see that striker Felipe has remained at the club.
The tall Brazilian will be a focal point for most of Gwangju’s attacks, and he could prove to be a real handful for some of the defenses in K-League 1 this year, starting with Seongnam’s. If he can replicate the form that pulled in 19 goals in 2019, then Gwangju might have a chance of staying up.
Seongnam leaned heavily on its defense last year to remain in the top flight for a second consecutive season. But there might be a change of tactics this year. Keeper Kim Dong-jun has left the club, alongside manager Nam Ki-il. The new arrivals seem to have more of an attacking style, so we might see the Magpies pushing further forward more regularly this year.
Whether that means that the defense will be weakened or not remains to be seen. But any change of direction may take some time to bed in, making Seongnam a target for clubs looking to pick up some easy points in the opening few weeks of the season. Some positive results will be crucial early on.
My Prediction and Pick
Gwangju FC to Win+157
It is always hard to tell how well a promoted side will do in a new K-League 1 season, no matter how impressive it looked in the second tier. Gwangju will face the same problems as any newcomer to the top flight but should be able to pick up all three points here and set itself up in the best way for the season ahead.
