Gulfstream Park Picks for Friday, April 17, 2020

Thoroughbred racing continues this week at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Florida, with a ten-race card of both turf and dirt competitions on Friday, April 17, 2020. I take a look at the three richest races (all on dirt) and hazard a few somewhat educated guesses as to the winners thereof. Hey, it’s what I do.

The weather forecast for Hallandale Beach, Florida, on April 17, 2020, is scattered thunderstorms, highs in the lower 80s, a 40% chance of precipitation, and winds at around 15 mph.

Don’t forget that you can check out the full card of races and even make a bet or two at our recommended horse racing betting sites.

RACE 2

  • Post Time: 1:34 PM (EDT)
  • Purse: $65, 000
  • Type: MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT
  • Distance: 4-1/2 furlongs (dirt)
  • Conditions: For Maidens, Two Years Old

Race 2 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Hall Rich Legacy, C A Torres, 20/1
  • Testified, M Meneses, 20/1
  • Gatsby, E Jaramillo, 7/2
  • Peppi, L Reyes, 6/1
  • Just Right Mike, M A Vasquez, 9/2
  • Poseidons Myth, F Olsson, 20/1
  • Golden Pal, T Gaffalione, 7/5
  • First Navy Admiral, E J Zayas, 6/1

Also Eligibles:

  • 9 Bailey, L Saez, 6/1

Race 2 Prediction and Pick

In this untried field, Golden Pal is the heavy favorite at 7/5 odds, and that sounds right to me. Tyler Gaffalione is at the reins here, and that just seals the deal.

If you’re looking for a longshot to take a chance on, of course, go with Testified at 20/1, ridden by Marcos Meneses. Sure, I know you want to put two bucks on the horse ridden by female jockey Fanny Olsson, but there will be other races with better horses.

Pick
  • Golden Pal
    7/5

RACE 6

  • Post Time: 3:43 PM
  • Purse: $47,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
  • Distance: 7 furlongs (dirt)
  • Conditions: For Four Year Olds and Upward Which Have Never Won $10,000 Twice Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, or State Bred Allowance or Which Have Never Won Three Races or Claiming Price $62,500

Race 6 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Tiz Mischief, C Landeros, 12/1
  • Create Again, H I Berrios, 15/1
  • Hy Riverside, M A Vasquez, 10/1
  • Glory of Florida, L R Reyes, 20/1
  • Do Share, E Jaramillo, 4/1
  • Sniper Shot, L Saez, 6/5
  • Royal Squeeze, E J Zayas, 6/1
  • Mihos, T Gaffalione, 9/2

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

Another heavily favored horse cries out for me to pick it, and I answer the call, with Sniper Shot, ridden by veteran jockey Luis Saez, who I suspect will add another win to his career record of 2,409 firsts.

Pick
  • Sniper Shot
    6/5

RACE 9

  • Post Time: 5:17 PM
  • Purse: $47,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING
  • Distance: 6 furlongs (dirt)
  • Conditions: For Four Year Olds and Upward Which Have Never Won $10,000 Twice Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, or State Bred Allowance or Which Have Never Won Three Races or Claiming Price $62,500

Race 9 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Mi Tres Por Ciento, H I Berrios, 15/1
  • Yodel E. A. Who, E J Zayas, 7/2
  • Noon Time Gem, M Meneses, 12/1
  • Vinnie Van Go, A A Rodriguez, 8/1
  • Running for Riz, L Reyes, 12/1
  • Fortin Hill, T Gaffalione, 9/5
  • Moonoverseba, L Saez, 8/1
  • Shakhimat, E Jaramillo, 12/1
  • Benefactor, M A Vasquez, 6/1
  • Whyruawesome, D Davis, 15/1

Race 9 Prediction and Pick

Tyler Gaffalione is riding another probable winner here: Fortin Hill at 9/5. You might also consider a win bet on Yodel E. A. Who at 7/2 to virtually guarantee a small but satisfying payout.

Pick
  • Fortin Hill
    9/5
