Gorodeya vs. BATE Borisov Belarusian Premier League

Gorodeya is just one of the surprise packages in the Belarusian Premier League this season, and this week, the club from the west of the country welcomes former repeat champions BATE Borisov to town.

BATE has started the season in a very strange fashion and desperately needs to find some consistency if it wants to challenge for the title this year. I discuss my take on the match in this Gorodeya vs. BATE Borisov betting preview.

Gorodeya vs. BATE Borisov Odds

Gorodeya to Win+574
The Draw+271
BATE Borisov to Win+181

Online sportsbook BetOnline has obviously gone with reputation rather than recent results in pricing this matchup. BATE has not been anything like the team we expected to see this season, and Gorodeya is on a very convincing winning streak right now. The value bets here are definitely the draw or even the home win.

Gorodeya vs. BATE Borisov Match Preview

When Gorodeya began the new season with back-to-back defeats to Vitebsk and Shakhtyor Soligorsk, it seemed as though pre-season predictions were going to be right and one of the smaller clubs in the league was going to struggle this year. But three wins since then have changed things around completely.

In beating Belshina, Dinamo Minsk, and Energetik, Gorodeya has proved that it can grind out results and can trip up some of the better sides along the way. There have not been many goals scored during that time, but if Gorodeya can set up its defense correctly here, there is every chance of a positive result.

That’s because BATE Borisov has been very unconvincing this year. If the thought was that the club would storm back after giving up the title last season, then we were very much mistaken. There have been just two wins in five league games and another defeat in the semifinal first-leg tie with Slavia Mozyr.

After the 3-0 win over FC Minsk, it seemed as though BATE was on its way back, but the goalless draw with Torpedo last weekend showed little invention. Pavel Nekhajchik even missed a first-half penalty in what was a far from glorious display. More is needed, but it is not forthcoming at the moment.

My Prediction and Pick

  • The Draw

Although the odds for a Gorodeya win look good, I feel that the home side will concentrate on its ultra-defensive game once again and look to force BATE into submission. If the visitors get too desperate, there is even the chance of a goal on the counter-attack. But this could end up in the second consecutive 0-0 draw for BATE.
