Gen.G vs. Evil Geniuses Betting Preview With Prediction and Pick – BLAST Premier, June 7th
Brazilian squads FURIA and MIBR are the big winners in the North American division of the 2020 BLAST Premier Showdown event.
Both organizations booked a place in the Finals stage which will start in mid-June after taking down Gen.G and Evil Geniuses respectively.
However, not all is lost for the Americans as the two teams have a chance to seal the last remaining spot if they win their in-play matchup today.
Captain daps and his teammates emerged victorious in the last two bouts with EG but their opponents can now rely on key player CeRq who has been phenomenal during the BLAST Premier event.
In this Gen.G vs. Evil Geniuses betting preview for today, I share my thoughts on how this latest matchup between the teams may pan out and I lay out a prediction and a free betting pick in the end.
Gen.G vs. Evil Geniuses Odds
Before I come to my team analysis and pick, let’s look at the latest prices. BetOnline’s sportsbook is once again among the best places to get a solid market selection and some great odds.
Here is what the bookmaker has in store for us today:
Total Maps Played
Despite Gen.G’s recent success against the Geniuses, it’s hardly a surprise that they are labeled as the undergod here.
The team has been very inconsistent during the event, while EG’s sole loss so far came yesterday against MIBR.
Before I present you with my final pick here, let’s get a clearer picture of both organizations’ recent exploits.
Gen.G Current Form
As I’ve said before in my BLAST premier previews, I fully expected Gen.G to continue their good from after clinching the title at the ESL One: Road to Rio event.
However, they haven’t been able to do that. They advanced to the playoff stage at the DreamHack Masters by the skin of their teeth and were also a bit underwhelming in the current tournament’s group stage.
A 16-8 against Chaos was a good start but FURIA took revenge for the Road to Rio Grand Final by beating daps and his teammates with the same scoreline.
A frustrating draw with MIBR followed and then Gen.G needed three maps to settle the playoff matchup with underdogs Triumph.
Their quest to clinch a spot at the BLAST Finals hit a further roadblock yesterday as FURIA handed them another heavy beating on Train and Overpass.
The loss on Train was particularly discouraging as the team is usually quite adept at winning on it but the Brazilians’ high-octane offense simply proved too devastating.
Despite the disappointment, Gen.G’s recent head-to-head record against EG will give them hopes that they can stage a better performance today but koosta, s0m, and BnTeT must be firmly locked in on the prize.
Evil Geniuses Current Form
The Geniuses had an even worse experience at the DreamHack Masters as a sole win against group-toppers 100 Thieves proved insufficient to carry them into the playoffs.
However, the players have dusted themselves down and have performed admirably since the start of the BLAST Premier competition.
They went unbeaten in their group after dishing out another loss to the Thieves and then staging one of the most memorable comebacks this season has seen against Cloud9.
A draw against Triumph was enough for EG to clinch automatic qualification for one of the final matches but MIBR were able to outlast them yesterday.
Captain stanislaw’s team started the series well by winning the first seven rounds on Train but a drop in form allowed FalleN and his guys to claw back the deficit and push the first leg into overtime.
EG kept their focus, though, and ultimately sealed a 19-15 win.
Winning on the map MIBR selected should have given the team great confidence but everything went downhill in the next two rounds.
They couldn’t quite get their game going on Inferno and despite coming back from behind to force another tiebreak, they failed to make it count this time.
Proceedings on Dust II also started well for the Geniuses as they racked up a 9-6 lead in the first half but then completely faltered to hand MIBR a 16-13 win.
It was definitely a wasted opportunity but the positive is that key player CeRq registered 80 kills while Ethan and Tarik went for 70 and 72 respectively.
A similar performance will be needed today if they are to break their Gen.G hoodoo and head to the North American Finals of the BLAST tournament.
Gen.G vs. Evil Geniuses Prediction and Pick
Given that daps and his team overcame EG in their last two bouts, I was flirting with the possibility of backing them on account of the high odds that the bookmakers have rolled out.
However, I feel it’s a very risky pick as they haven’t been in top form and are quite unpredictable at the moment.
The same goes for the Geniuses who have been much more stable in this tournament but are still prone to throwing away leads and underperforming in the clutch moments.
Given that the stakes are high, I believe both teams will go for a more conservative approach here which usually leads to a third map.
The odds for the Over 2.5 market make for a great deal as well so I’m going with them:
