Gangwon FC vs. Seongnam FC Betting Preview With Pick – K League 1, May 23

| May 21, 2020 1:56 am PDT
Gangwon FC vs. Seongnam FC Betting Preview for May 23, 2020

Both these sides stalled somewhat at the weekend after positive starts to the season. Although neither of them would be considered as title winner prospects, there will be the hope of a top six finish for both managers.

It is very early in the season, of course, but a win for either team here would put them in a very good position, as well as boost morale and confidence. My thoughts are covered below in my Gangwon FC vs. Seongnam FC prediction.

Latest Gangwon FC vs. Seongnam FC Odds

Gangwon FC to Win-104
The Draw+243
Seongnam FC to Win+315

I expect this game to be closer than BetOnline’s odds suggest, but I do agree that the home side should be considered favorite to win. There are still some tactical changes to iron out at Seongnam and if Gangwon can work out how to finish off promising attacks in a more positive manner, then the points could be staying with the hosts on Saturday.

Match Preview

After the impressive opening day win over FC Seoul, last weekend’s defeat to Sangju Sangmu was a real disappointment for Gangwon. The army side deserved to win the game but Gangwon manager Kim Byung-soo will not be happy with the way his strikers were unable to make the most of the chances that they were given.

The good news is that Kim Ji-hyun looked good when he came on as a sub early on in the second half and showed so signs of the injury that kept him out for so long last year. With a little more composure he might have even managed to get his team back into the game. A home win will be expected this weekend – but it will be a close one.

Seongnam’s goalless draw with Incheon United might have had a more positive outcome for the team, but it seemed like a slight return to last season’s form for the Magpies. The defensive tactics may have kept the team in the top flight after gaining promotion the year before, but there was a hope that a more attacking style of play might be on show this season.

The impressive 2-0 win against Gwangju on the opening day of the season certainly suggested that. But maybe manager Kim Nam-il is tailoring his teams to the opposition rather than having a game plan for the entire season. If that is the case then this could be another low scoring game.

My Pick

  • Gangwon FC to Win

Although I do think that the odds should be slightly closer considering the results from both sides already this season, if anyone is going to win this game I think it will be Gangwon. Although the performance was not good enough against Sangju Sangmu, there were a few chances made. If Seongnam allow the home side to play on Saturday then it could allows Gangwon to hone its attacking skills and win the game.
