FunPlus Phoenix vs. Gen.G Betting Preview and Prediction

We’re into the playoff stage of the inaugural CS:GO Flashpoint tournament and today’s schedule sees two American teams go head to head in the lower bracket.

FunPlus Phoenix fell to Gen.G at the DreamHack Open event in January but the two sides haven’t met since FunPlus went through a complete roster makeover towards the end of March.

This promises to be a very interesting tie and my FunPlus Phoenix vs. Gen.G betting preview takes a look at the betting options we have on offer. I then analyze both teams and lay out my prediction and a free betting pick.

FunPlus Phoenix vs. Gen.G Odds

Betway is one of the leading CS:GO betting sites and they have once again rolled out some tasty options for us to consider. Here are the main betting markets below:

Match Winner

FunPlus Phoenix +140
Gen.G -200

Maps Handicap

FunPlus Phoenix (+1.5) -223
Gen.G (-1.5) +140

Maps Total

Under 2.5 -143
Over 2.5 -106

Gen.G are the obvious favorites going into the tie but things might be closer than the odds suggest. FunPlus have a confident and skilled team with a lot of experience so don’t be quick to count them out here.

FunPlus Phoenix Analysis

The American organization went into the spotlight after forfeiting a Flashpoint match against Dignitas but quickly reacted to the issue and formed a completely new lineup that has been faring quite well given the circumstances.

The new team led by ptr recently racked up two straight wins against Chaos and c0ntact which allowed them to enter the playoffs.

They opened with a loss against MAD Lions, however, their performance on Nuke in the first round was quite interesting. It wasn’t enough to secure a win but there were many positives to take away in a match against the heavy favorites to win it all.

The organization looks to be in high spirits despite the earlier problems and reaching the playoffs is a great achievement in and of itself. They will need a big performance from ptr, Jonji, and mitch but that’s not out of the question for a team with such good chemistry and discipline.

Gen.G Analysis

I can only categorize  Gen.G’s performances so far as decent. They have won against lower-ranked opposition comfortably on most occasions but have failed to impress against the big dogs.

Their recent back-to-back losses against MIBR and a sub-par display against Clou9 in the first round of the playoffs confirm this.

Still, BnTeT, s0m, and automatic have been among the best players in the tournament and the team always has a chance when they are on song.

This will be key for the upcoming matchup as FunPlus Phoemix might be viewed as an underdog but they will definitely not lie down here.

FunPlus Phoenix vs. Gen.G Prediction and Pick

FunPlus’ new roster is a bit of an unknown quantity at this level but the guys are definitely enjoying the tournament and have done extremely well to still be in the conversation.

Their blowout losses against MAD Lions were a low point, however, I think they will serve as a good lesson going forward.

Gen.G usually comes good against lesser opposition but to be quite honest, I don’t actually categorize this FunPlus team as such.

We have only a small sample size and their quality so far has been positive. Given that the first upper bracket round didn’t yield too many surprises, I’m inclined to back the new kids on the block here.

Gen.G are more experienced at this level but it’s not like they are the most clutch team out there and FunPlus’ great chemistry and discipline will give them a lot of headaches on any map.

That’s’ where the betting value lies for me so I’m concluding this FunPlus Phoenix vs. Gen.G betting preview by backing the underdogs to nick the tie:

  • FunPlus Phoenix
