Will Rogers Downs Free Horse Racing Picks and Betting Tips for April 15

Thoroughbred racing at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore, Oklahoma, continues apace for April 15, 2020, with a ten-race card containing more than a few bulging purses. I’ll be taking a look at the three richest races in a moment and picking what I think will be the winners.

Weather forecast for Will Rogers Downs (and the greater Tulsa area) is sunny, with negligible wind, temps in the low 60s, and only a 10% chance of precipitation. In other words, beautiful, but wear a sweater.

Just kidding. Stay at home. And wash your hands.

By the way, if you’re looking to take a chance on a likely prospect, you can always find a full list of races, entries, and wagers at our top-rated horse racing betting sites.

My Will Rogers Downs picks can be found on this post, and I’ve also written posts with my horse racing betting tips for two other tracks today.

Post time for the first race at Will Rogers Downs on April 15, 2020, is 1:15 PM (CDT).

  • Post Time: 2:15 PM
  • Purse: $22,000
  • Distance: 6 furlongs (dirt)
  • Conditions: For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, or Oklahoma State Bred Allowance or Which Have Never Won Three Races

Race 3 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Okie Queen, C Kimes, 6/1
  • Lil Footnotes, J A Medina, 4/1
  • Girls a Bullet, L D Biehler, 7/2
  • Karate Hottie, D Cabrera, 8/5
  • Maria Chuchena, L D Goncalves, 5/1
  • Backseat Promises, A Pusac, 6/1

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

At 8/5 odds, Karate Hottie is the favorite, but there are a couple of contenders that might steal the win, including Girls a Bullet and Lil Footnotes. Still, I’m going to stick with Karate Hottie for this race. She’s only missed the money three times in her 18 career starts, and jockey David Cabrera has a very good history for knowing how to stay ahead of the other jockeys.

  • Karate Hottie

  • Post Time: 3:45 PM
  • Purse: $20,900
  • Distance: 1 mile (dirt)
  • Conditions: For Fillies and Mares Three Years Old and Upward Which Have Never Won a Race Other Than Maiden, Claiming, Starter, or Oklahoma State Bred Allowance or Which Have Never Won Two Races

Race 6 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Kertara, L Wade, 8/1
  • Mayan Sky, R Eikleberry, 30/1
  • Cypress Point, D Cabrera, 3/1
  • Absolute Love, F Wethey, Jr., 12/1
  • Al Shamkhah, L J Luzzi, 7/2
  • Decorated for Gold, T Kennedy, 5/1
  • Spun Eazy, G Herrera, 6/1
  • Baladera, A B Ramos, 6/1
  • Beryl’s Flight, J A Medina, 20/1
  • Musical Millie, L D Goncalves, 12/1

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

Cypress Point and Al Shamkhah are the two most favored horses in this race, and frankly, I’m surprised Al Shamkhah is so closely compared to Cypress Point. Ditto the two jockeys. In real numbers, both Cypress Point and her jockey, David Cabrera, outdistance their second-favorite counterparts by a goodly amount. So—no big winnings here, but I’m sticking with the favorite.

Incidentally, if you like taking a flyer on a longshot now and then, try Mayan Sky, ridden by Ry Eikleberry.

  • Cypress Point

  • Post Time: 4:45 PM
  • Purse: $25,080
  • Distance: 6 furlongs (dirt)
  • Conditions: For Accredited Oklahoma-Bred Three Year Olds and Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • O S U Kickoff, J R Eads, 6/1
  • Jenna’s Gun Runner, A Pusac, 15/1
  • Ninethirtyturbo, L D Goncalves, 2/1
  • Heputtheaceinrace, F Wethey, Jr., 12/1
  • Kent’s Bet, T Cunningham, 20/1
  • Word to the Wise, R Eikleberry, 3/1
  • Tavner, D Cabrera, 5/1
  • Mr Misleading, O Sanchez, 6/1
  • Western Drawl, J A Medina, 20/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

This could be the most unpredictable race on the card. Ninethirtyturbo has exactly two career races under his belt—a second place at Sam Houston back in early March and a win at Will Rogers a couple of weeks later. Incidentally, this will be his first race as a gelding. His “area of opportunity” is with his jockey, Leandro Goncalves, who is not performing this year up to his earlier earning percentages. Word to the Wise, on the other hand, is pretty much a match for Ninethirtyturbo, career-wise, and his jockey is on a roll, at least in comparison to Goncalves.
