Free Picks of William Rogers Downs Races for Wednesday, April 8, 2020

With the current Interesting Times, it’s something of a comfort to find that there are still plenty of horse racing betting opportunities to be had, if you know where to look.

Of the 150-odd racecourses I surveyed, only about a third of them are still following their meet schedule or intend to do so later this year. It just takes a bit of extra work to find out who’s running and where.

Sure, they may be running races to empty stands and nearly empty stables, but they are running.

Lucky for us, the horses haven’t been listening to the various doomsayers and pollyannas argue at all–preferring to continue running faster than the other horses as if nothing has changed. Perhaps for them, it’s a relief not to have all those people yelling at them while they’re trying to do their jobs.

One of those racecourses is Will Rogers Downs in Claremont, Oklahoma. The track has been running three days of thoroughbred racing a week since March and will continue to do so through the end of May 2020.

Their April 8, 2020 schedule features ten races, and I’m going to cover those specific races right now. I’ll even throw in my picks for each race, which I’ll have you know are worth every penny you pay for them. You’re welcome!

Incidentally, if you want to follow my Will Rogers Downs horse racing picks with a wager, you should check our recommended horse racing betting sites.

Race 1

  • Post Time: 1:15 PM (CDT)
  • Type: CLAIMING $5,000
  • Purse: $8,250
  • Distance: 5 1/2 Furlongs
  • Conditions: For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old and Upward Which Have Not Won Two Races Since October 8, 2019 or Which Have Never Won Four Races

Race 1 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Hooked on a Hit 5/1
  • 2 Silver Moon Rising 9/2
  • 3 Tapindeed 5/2
  • 4 Alex’s Bourbon 7/2
  • 5 Rare Poppy 8/1
  • 6 Rosemary Beach 12/1
  • 7 Hoppestry 8/1
  • 8 Miss Tschetter SCRATCHED
  • 9 I’mthebossrightnow 8/1

Race 1 Prediction and Pick

This first race is a relatively tight one, but there are three horses the oddsmakers feel good about, including Tapindeed, the favorite, as well as Alex’s Bourbon and Silver Moon Rising.

These are all ladies who haven’t won enough races in their brief careers, and one of the interesting data points to consider when handicapping—Lasix use—is made moot because they’re all on Lasix, so I’m going with the winningest jockey in this race, Ry Eikleberry, aboard I’mthebossrightnow for a surprise win.

Pick
  • I’mthebossrightnow
    8/1

Race 2

  • Post Time: 1:45PM (CDT)
  • Type: OKLAHOMA MAIDEN SPECIAL WEIGHT
  • Purse: $23,760

Race 2 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Mighty Vision 6/1
  • 2 Diamonata 15/1
  • 3 Okie Logic 10/1
  • 4 Jollyville 12/1
  • 5 Badaddatud 15/1
  • 6 Tomey’s Lexus 12/1
  • 7 Acertive Miss 5/1
  • 8 Sigicricket 8/1
  • 9 Favorite Sister 20/1
  • 10 Casino Queen 9/2
  • 11 Gray Zone 7/2
  • 12 Flying Lindy 20/1

Race 2 Prediction and Pick

Having climbed out on a limb with the first race, I’m sticking with the favorite in the second—Mighty Vision, ridden by Alfredo Triana Jr.

Pick
  • Mighty Vision
    6/1

Race 3

  • Post Time: 2:15PM (CDT)
  • Type: CLAIMING $7,500
  • Purse: $9,350

  • 4 Teryn It Up 5/2
  • 5 Cat Addiction 15/1
  • 6 Cruisin Comet 8/1
  • 7 Talk Gruff 20/1
  • 8 Rudy’s Boy 20/1
  • 9 De Bird Is Da Word 7/2

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

From the odds, you’d imagine this race will consist of two group of horses running entirely separate races. Weird, but it always makes for a good chance to win with some long odds.

Still, I’m less of a gambler than I was when I got out of bed this morning, so I’m going with the favorite of the faves, Survey, ridden by Ty Kennedy. If that doesn’t suit your wagering fancy, well, you be you.

Pick
  • Survey
    3/1

Race 4

  • Post Time: 2:45PM (CDT)
  • Type: MAIDEN CLAIMING $15,000
  • Purse: $11,550
  • Distance: 5 1/2 Furlongs
  • Conditions: For Maidens, Fillies And Mares Three Years Old and Upward.

Race 4 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Good Extreme 15/1
  • 2 Roses for Doug 2/1
  • 3 Miss Tyro 12/1
  • 4 Sunday’s Vision 5/1
  • 5 Chiron Eclipse 4/1
  • 6 Pulpit’s Princess 12/1
  • 7 D’ cinnamon Girl 8/1
  • 8 Meissen 3/1

Race 4 Prediction and Pick

Ry Eikleberry is riding the favorite in this race, and my money’s on him. If you’re cautious, bet Roses for Doug to show.

Go ahead, we won’t make fun of you. Much.

Pick
  • Roses for Doug
    2/1

Race 5

  • Post Time: 3:15PM (CDT)
  • Type: CLAIMING $7,500
  • Purse: $9,350
  • Distance: 1 Mile
  • Conditions: For Fillies And Mares Three Years Old and Upward Which Have Never Won Three Races.

Race 5 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Ancona 7/2
  • 2 Tickle Bunny 4/1
  • 3 Nautia 3/1
  • 4 Any Ole Thing 8/1
  • 5 Silver Sailor 20/1
  • 6 Chicle Sparks 20/1
  • 7 Bode On Tap 5/2
  • 8 Final Design 20/1
  • 9 Bella Kristina 12/1

Race 5 Prediction and Pick

Bode on Tap, Nautia, and Ancona are the toss-ups in this claiming race, and I think Nautia at 3/1 has the best chance, owing to his jockey this race, Lane J. Luzzi.

Pick
  • Nautia
    3/1

Race 6

  • Post Time: 3:45 PM (CDT)
  • Type: CLAIMING $10,000-$7,500
  • Purse: $12,650
  • Distance: 6 Furlongs
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds and Upward.

Race 6 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Dionysus’ Chalice SCRATCHED
  • 1 He’s No Saint 12/1
  • 2 Nomo Ron 5/2
  • 3 Swagattack 20/1
  • 4 Texas Long Bow 8/1
  • 5 Texas Munny Man 3/1
  • 6 Thorpe d’Oro 12/1
  • 7 Libertarian 4/1
  • 8 Lindante 7/2

Race 6 Prediction and Pick

Nomo Ron and Texas Munny Man are both solid favorites in this race, but I’m going with the one ridden by Ken S. Tohill—Texas Munny Man.

Pick
  • Texas Munny Man
    3/1

Race 7

  • Post Time: 4:15PM (CDT)
  • Type: STARTER OPTIONAL CLAIMING $5,000
  • Purse: $10,450
  • Distance: 5 1/2 Furlongs
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds and Upward Which Have Started For A Claiming Price Of $5,000 Or Less In 2019-2020 or Claiming Price $5,000.

Race 7 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Union Rebel 10/1
  • 2 Alltheway to Cairo SCRATCHED
  • 2 Trapalanda 5/2
  • 3 Rocketringo 15/1
  • 4 Big Em C 5/1
  • 5 Niigon’s Glory 6/1
  • 6 Ed’s Rocket 2/1
  • 7 Imma Wild Bling 9/2

Race 7 Prediction and Pick

Don’t even bother with the others. This race belongs to Trapalanda. Why? With two wins in four starts, Trapalanda is favored over most of the field, and Ed’s Rocket (who won both of his previous starts) is ridden by a good but lesser jockey.

It’s practically a coin toss, so I go with the jockey–Eikleberry.

Pick
  • Trapalanda
    5/2

Race 8

  • Post Time: 4:45 PM (CDT)
  • Type: CLAIMING $7,500
  • Purse: $9,350
  • Distance: 1 Mile
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds and Upward Which Have Never Won Three Races.

Race 8 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Fred’s Country Boy 8/1
  • 2 Chroniqueur 7/2
  • 3 Nations Hope 12/1
  • 4 John Allen 12/1
  • 5 Silver Luke Silver 5/2
  • 6 Giant’s Forrest 8/1
  • 7 My Macho Mon 4/1
  • 8 Second Guess 12/1
  • 9 Toccetive Jac 10/1

Race 8 Prediction and Pick

While Silver Luke Silver at 5/2 is the favorite in this claiming race, I think Chroniqueur is the choice here.

Both horses have the ability to cross the finish line first, but the Chroniqueur has the more experienced jockey: David Cabrera.

Pick
  • Chroniqueur
    7/2

Race 9

  • Post Time: 5:15PM (CDT)
  • Type: HANDICAP – Overnight Sprint Handicap
  • Purse: $17,050
  • Distance: 5 Furlongs
  • Conditions: For three-year-olds and upward.

Race 9 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Direct Dial 3/1
  • 2 Quality Rocket 20/1
  • 3 Dame Plata 5/1
  • 4 Shannon C 4/1
  • 5 Savagery SCRATCHED
  • 5 Tin Badge 10/1
  • 6 My Wise Cat 8/1
  • 7 Just Blaze 8/1
  • 8 Bay Muzik 5/2

Race 9 Prediction and Pick

Plenty of horses in this race that could cross the finish line first, but I believe will be Direct Dial–ridden by Lane J. Luzzi—that will be getting a picture taken in the winner’s circle.

Pick
  • Direct Dial
    3/1

Race 10

  • Post Time: 5:45PM (CDT)
  • Type: CLAIMING $7,500
  • Purse: $8,250
  • Distance: 5 1/2 Furlongs
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds and Upward Which Have Never Won Two Races.

Race 10 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Hi Heat Boy 30/1
  • 2 Picture Me Classy 20/1
  • 3 Wil of Fortune 6/1
  • 4 Eurobadguy 7/2
  • 5 Kris Me Deadly 20/1
  • 6 Coconut Ice 15/1
  • 7 Clear Corredor 30/1
  • 8 Bring the Dough 5/1
  • 9 Trebulski 6/1
  • 10 Free Dream 10/1
  • 11 Gospel Caliber 30/1
  • 12 Mega Da Virada 3/1

Race 10 Prediction and Pick

Despite several likelies in this race, I’m going with one of the longer shots—Coconut Ice, ridden by Ken S. Tohill.

If you want, box Coconut Ice with Mega Da Virada and Eurobadguy. Both fun and educational!

Pick
  • Coconut Ice
    15/1
