Mr. Big Shot, at 2/1, is the favorite in this race, followed closely by Want to Be Cowboy (3/1) and Creeds Revenge (7/2). The favorite, ridden by Armando Martinez, seems like the right choice here, with five money finishes in his six career starts. It helps that Mr. Big Shot is the only horse in this allowance race young enough to carry 120 lbs rather than 123.

I would be stretching the tissue of imagination a bit too far to suggest that any of the longshots in this race actually had a chance to win.

There are four geldings in this claiming race worthy of consideration, the favorite, of course, being Captain Amante (5/2), ridden by Dakota Woods, and with the enviable pole position. I’m going to go, however, with the third-favored horse in this race—Spunky Kitten, piloted by Scott Bethke. Good starting position, and with 15 career starts resulting in six money finishes, Spunky Kitten rates higher—in my book, at least—than the favorite.

At 15/1, Tekela’s Glory is a possibility, with 25 career starts and seven finishes in the money. Making the wager a bit riskier is jockey Eric McNeil’s less than stellar wins/earnings record.

I’d like to say I fancy Honey Hearts at 8/1, but I can’t, despite that enviable pole position. In fact, I’m going with the second-favored lady May Flowers way down at the other end of the starting gate. She has better starting stats than the more favored thoroughbreds, and jockey Chris Fackler has some respectable wins/earning stats himself.

A good possibility is Classy and Fast at 6/1. This five-year-old mare has 22 career starts with 14 finishes in the money—seven of them wins. With jockey Armando Martinez aboard, it could happen.
