Free Horse Racing Picks for Oaklawn Races on Saturday, April 11, 2020

With not one but two stakes races among the dozen races, Saturday at Oaklawn promises to be a rich one indeed. The ninth race is the Oaklawn Mile for four-year-olds and up, and the eleventh race is the even longer (1-1/8 mile) Oaklawn Stakes, with purses of $150,000 and $200,000, respectively.

Let’s take a look at three of the biggest races this Saturday, April 11, at Oaklawn. Incidentally, you should be able to find the complete list of all twelve races at Oaklawn that day, as well as the latest odds, at one of our recommended horse racing betting sites.

Post time for the first race at the Oaklawn racecourse on April 11, 2020, is 12:35 PM CDT, and the weather is predicted to be scattered thunderstorms with a high of 65 degrees.

You can find my Oaklawn picks below.

  • Post Time: 2:10 PM
  • Purse: $61,000
  • Type: ALLOWANCE OPTIONAL CLAIMING

  • 5 Blackberry Wine, Martin Garcia, 3/1
  • 6 Warrior’s Map, Luis S. Quinonez, 15/1
  • 7 Woopigsooie, Ramon A. Vazquez, 8/1
  • 8 Amen Corner, Declan Cannon, 20/1
  • 9 Fort McHenry, Tyler Baze, 12/1
  • 10 No Shirt No Shoes, Channing Hill, 20/1

Race 4 Prediction and Pick

Consider this race an appetizer for the stakes races to come. It has everything, including the veteran world-class jockeys and the high-octane horses like favorites Scabbard, Blackberry Wine, and Shooters Shoot. While Scabbard might be the favorite, I’m not so sure of his chances—his performance has gotten poorer with every successive race in the past 11 months.

So I’m going to back Blackberry Wine, with Martin Garcia aboard, if for no other reason than that Blackberry Wine already knows how to win on a muddy Oaklawn track and has done so as recently as last month.

Pick
  • Blackberry Wine
    3/1

RACE 9

  • Post Time: 4:43 PM
  • Purse: $150,000
  • Type: Stakes (The Oaklawn Mile)
  • Distance: 1 mile
  • Conditions: Four year olds and upwards

Race 9 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Slick Silver, Christopher A. Emigh, 30/1
  • 2 Mr. Money, Gabriel Saez, 4/1
  • 3 Tom’s d’Etat, Joel Rosario, 3/1
  • 4 Pioneer Spirit, David Cohen, 6/1
  • 5 Boldor, Tyler Baze, 20/1
  • 6 M G Warrior, Joseph Talamo, 15/1
  • 7 Snapper Sinclair, Florent Geroux, 10/1
  • 8 Bankit, Ricardo Santana, Jr., 15/1
  • 9 Home Run Trick, Walter De La Cruz, 30/1
  • 10 Long Range Toddy, Brian Joseph Hernandez, Jr., 10/1
  • 11 Lord Guinness, Ruben Fuentes, 30/1
  • 12 Kershaw, Fernando De La Cruz, 20/1
  • 13 Fight On, Ramon A. Vazquez, 20/1
  • 14 Improbable, Drayden Van Dyke, 7/2

Race 9 Prediction and Pick

You’d have to be a fool not to favor Improbable, who finished fourth in last year’s Kentucky Derby. Am I a fool? Let’s not go there, m’kay?

Pick
  • Improbable
    7/2

RACE 11

  • Post Time: 5:48 PM
  • Purse: $200,000
  • Type: STAKES (The Oaklawn Stakes)
  • Distance: 1 1/8 miles
  • Conditions: For three year olds

Race 11 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • 1 Basin, Florent Geroux, 7/2
  • 2 Coach Bahe, Santo Sanjur, 20/1
  • 3 Mr. Big News, Gabriel Saez, 30/1
  • 4 Thousand Words, Joseph Talamo, 5/2
  • 5 Sir Rick, David Cohen, 15/1
  • 6 Shoplifted, Ricardo Santana, Jr., 10/1
  • 7 Flap Jack, Adam Beschizza, 20/1
  • 8 Taishan, Joel Rosario, 8/1
  • 9 Digital, Brian Joseph Hernandez, Jr., 8/1
  • 10 Something Natural, Fernando De La Cruz, 20/1
  • 11 Background, Joseph Rocco, Jr., 12/1
  • 12 Farmington Road, Martin Garcia, 6/1
  • 13 Gold Street, Tyler Baze, 20/1

Race 11 Prediction and Pick

Naturally, Kentucky Derby probable contender Thousand Words (#16 in Road to the Kentucky Derby points) is everybody’s favorite here, but I’m sticking my neck out to go with Taishan, ridden by Joel Rosario, in this race. Weather forecast says scattered thunderstorms, and Taishan has already proven himself victorious over muddy conditions.

Pick
  • Taishan
    8/1
