Free Horse Racing Picks for Los Alamitos on Saturday, April 18, 2020

Los Alamitos in Southern California is one of the few horse racing tracks in the US that features—on the same card—a mix of quarter horse races, thoroughbred races, and even mixed races of the two breeds. If you ever wanted to see which breed was fastest, well, Los Alamitos is working diligently to find that answer.

Saturday’s 10-race card includes the Wheatland Handicap, where we’ll see some of the best quarter horses and thoroughbreds try to burn up 870 yards the fastest.

The weather at Los Alamitos for Saturday looks to be partly cloudy, with a high in the upper 60s, a 20% chance of rain, and winds at around 13 mph.

As with most race tracks, Los Alamitos is closed to spectators, but you can still place wagers with a visit to top horse racing betting sites such as the ones listed here.

My Los Alamitos picks follow below; post time for the first race on Saturday, April 18, 2020, is 6 PM (PDT).

  • Post Time: 6:56 PM (PDT)
  • Purse: $15,000
  • Type: (Mixed) ALLOWANCE
  • Distance: 870 yards
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won Three Races

Race 3 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Morgan S., V Bednar, 2/1
  • More Honor, E K Rojas Fernandez, 6/1
  • Jazzie Cat, R Guce, 8/1
  • Castle Gate, F Orduna-Rojas, 5/2
  • Wicked Ultimatum, B Harvey, 8/1
  • Mr. Esken, E Hernandez, 12/1
  • Tap the Wire, M V Donoe, 8/1
  • Tim’s Buddy, E Payeras, 10/1

Race 3 Prediction and Pick

When the favorite has the number one post position, it’s hard to think about other horses winning. Morgan S., a six-year-old thoroughbred ridden by Vinnie Bednar, will almost certainly cross the line first. The thoroughbred Castle Gate, with Francisco Orduna-Rojas aboard, also has a chance, but not enough to change my mind.

  • Morgan S

  • Post Time: 7:24 PM
  • Purse: $18,000
  • Type: (Mixed) ALLOWANCE
  • Distance: 870 yards
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward Which Have Never Won A Race At 870 Yards

Race 4 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Parade Blue, V Bednar, 10/1
  • Two Fifty Coup, E K Rojas Fernandez, 5/1
  • Buster Douglas, F Orduna-Rojas, 3/1
  • Short of Ez, J E Sanchez, 5/1
  • San Giorgio, E Garcia, 12/1
  • Evening Reward, B Harvey, 20/1
  • Restless Rambler, R Guce, 9/5
  • Flip the Coin Jan, E Hernandez, 6/1

Race 4 Prediction and Pick

Moneyline favorite Restless Rambler (9/5) is the horse to beat in this race, and I don’t think that’s going to happen. Ridden by veteran thoroughbred jockey Ramon Guce, even the outside post position isn’t going to keep this seven-year-old from crossing the line first.

Sorry, I wanted to like Buster Douglas, the second-favored horse in this race, but he just doesn’t have the record to justify his odds, even with Francisco Orduna-Rojas aboard.

  • Restless Rambler

RACE 10 – Wheatland Handicap

  • Post Time: 10:12 PM
  • Purse: $20,000
  • Distance: 870 yards
  • Conditions: For Three Year Olds And Upward; Quarter Horses And Thoroughbreds

Race 10 Runners and Odds Forecast

  • Sokudo, E Payeras, 3/1
  • C Dub, E K Rojas Fernandez, 6/1
  • Run Raging Rhino Run, H R Lopez, 8/1
  • Biddy Duke, A T Gryder, 8/1
  • Rule He Will, R Guce, 3/1
  • Love Your Life, E Hernandez, 20/1
  • Loan Sharky, B Harvey, 10/1
  • Hardcore Troubador, V Bednar, 5/2

Race 10 Prediction and Pick

The only thing that might keep six-year-old thoroughbred Hardcore Troubador (with Vinnie Bednar aboard) from crossing the finish line first his outside post position. You might want to hedge with a bet on Rule He Will, a nine-year-old thoroughbred ridden by Ramon Guce.

Incidentally, there are only two quarter horses running in this handicap race—Run Raging Rhino Run and Loan Sharky, and the odds are just too long for me to take a flyer on either of them.

  • Hardcore Troubador
