Free Horse Racing Picks for Gulfstream Park on Thursday, April 16, 2020

Thoroughbred racing continues this week at Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, Florida, with an 11-race card of both turf and dirt competitions on Thursday, April 16, 2020. I take a look at the three richest races and hazard a few somewhat educated guesses as to the winners thereof. Hey, it’s what I do.

Both Lime and Awesome View have the advantage of inner post positions, and both newbies are being ridden by world-class jockeys. I’m going with Awesome View here because Edgard Zayas has an ever-so-slight edge on Tyler Gaffalione in terms of win percentage.

Just Kidding with Luis Saez aboard is the favorite in this race, and that suits me just fine.

Also Eligibles:

Quite a bit of uncertainty with this race, and only some of it is attributable to the horses and jockeys. With rain expected, the turf course at Gulfstream could very likely be a swimming pool. They’ll move the rail out from the hedge with each successive turf race, but with this race in particular, that might not be enough.

In which case, they’ll move the race to the dirt track, and that will give the three also-eligible MTOs (Main Track Only) a chance to join the fun.

If this race ends up on the main track and Trev is in the running, then of course, bet Trev for even money. But if the race stays on the turf track, expect the rail movement out to the 108-foot position to broaden the turns a bit, increase the actual distance of the race a tad, and to penalize the outer post positions less.

On turf, I’m going with Captain Ron, ridden by Miguel Angel Vasquez.
